  • Title: The Final Spires, Part 3
  • GM: Whirlpool
  • Place: The Felwood
  • Summary: -The confederation of Alexandria and the Mythwood are making a push to activate the final Spires of Linneia before moving onto the center spire. Expect demons and fel monster of all sorts.

The barriers shake and shudder. This rolling mass of moss and leaves that has been seen out there is definitely prodding things.

... but it isn't approaching yet. Just ... probing.

"I still say we sneak up and explode it." the goblin formerly known as ... something ... suggests, "This whole gods-damned forest is cursed, and it's one small step to burning the place down so we can grow a new, less evil one in the ashes."

She's a goblin of strong opinions on forest fires, and she and Smokey would not get along.

Tlanexhuani watches the barriers, hoping they might discourage things. Ideally, keep them out, but he is not overly hopeful as hasty as they were assembled. He looks to the others at times, too, and keeps his words low. "This one not want forest burning. Not when this one in it."

"I'm a bit worried that even if that thing leaves us alone, it's going to tear down everything we set up out there." The small, magical makari sighs. "As much as I'd like to burn things down, that's not why we're here. Besides, we don't know if that'll have horrible repercussions on the city, or destroy the towers we're here for in the first place."

Aelwyn sagely nods his head towards... the someone. "This one agrees. Part of the nature's cycle, this one is certain." The draconian rumbles as he stays low, watching the rolling moss from afar. "Ah, Thunder, it will only singe a little." He replies to the largest of the makari. "Though this one feels as we might have to burn something soon regardless."

It goes away.

... at first.

Quiet descends on the area. The prodding is gone.

And then? Then, vines seem to spread up the wall of the guard hut, emerging from the earth -- as if it had gone under it and come up here. The vines spread rapidly, overwhelming the hut and shrouding it in moss and and thorny maws which scream triumphantly. Mimicing humans, it seems, is something it can do.

Aelwyn stayed quiet when the quiet falls. He was enough of a veteran of the area to know that _nothing_ stays quiet in this place, except to -

When the vines burst out, the ruddy sith-makar was already in motion, swinging his flaming glaive at the nearest screaming faces with a heaved swing and a ragged growl. "Burn it! Burn it all!" He yells at the team. "Whatever it is shan't stand for us longer!"

"Well, I guess we should have went for plan F. Plan F (almost) always works." The goblin says as the vines explode out of the ground nearby, almost resignedly grasping the ring on her finger to focus a spell, though the hint of a grin does start to break as she casts her hand forward and flames ripple out of the aether into the air in front of her hand, and it becomes a fully goblin fanged grin as she yells out, "EAT FIREBALL!" and the flames leap from her hand into the middle of the vines, exploding outwards in a wave of heat that shrivel and crisp many vines, but there are still so much more. "That building... was stone, right?"

Well, it *was* on a building.

Now it's not. Mostly because it got fire-ball-blasted by a goblin and, well, it very, very clealy did not like that. Ignoring Aelwyn, it *leaps* towards the Gobber and it's tentacles slam down on either side of her while it uses its maw to *bite* at her, coming away having merely substantially grazed her with its thorny maw.

Tlanexhuani blinks as the building is suddenly overgrown wth kudzu. Killer kudzu? All of the mouths are very... disturbing. Then, not so surprisiginly, there is fire added. "Not whole forest! Please?" Once more, a spark from his blood invigorates the splinting of his armor and causes it to adjust, snug, and reinforce. His spear butt is tapped firmly on the ground and another spark leaps from claws to spear, travelling along thin wires to its crystal tip. There it's amplified before leaping out to himself and his allies as multiple small bolts. Not enough to harm, but the jolt likewise invogorates and empowers those it touches.

"Oh, gods damn it all to the lower planes." The small makari grumbles loudly. "It's going to drag those wizards into a trap like this, or drive us insane by the time they get here.

"Hang on their, wait, wait!" She shouts as it gets lit up and smacked around. "Incinerate" The sorceress hisses, causing a stream of flame to emerge out of the air, taking the form of a flaming winged serpent that shifts through the mass of vines, badly scorching the creature.

Aelwyn snarls in annoyance as the creature just gets up and ignores him. How dare it ignore him??? "Tch, anyone know what this creature is!" He shouts as he runs over to stand in front of Eztli, slicing his blade into the creature. How to get a gobbo free from the tentacles?

"Thunder! Can we pry off the creature from that Goblin?" He calls out, then rumbling. "At least the fire is plentiful."

"Gah!" some goblin squawks as the tentacles surround her and it grabs one of her arms and bites. With one hand, she bashes it on the maw, dazing it long enough to tear her arm (and shredded sleeve) free of the creature. She looks to her left and right, trying to spot a way out, and tries to backpedal out, but when one of the vines whips out to drag her back, she blinks out of existence and appears a few feet behind Aelwyn. "The goblin is fine. Though my outfit needs emergency treatment. Time for more fire?"

That must have been a rhetorical question, because she's already holding a bronze dragon scale in her teeth - crunch! Moments later, she belches out a spray of flame, dousing parts of the creature in her projected inferno.

Then she lets out a more normal belch, and a puff of smoke seeps out from her nose.

It turns it's slavering maw on Aelwyn, dripping with thick, yellow ichor, and it bites at the Sith. It succeeds in piercing his armor and scales, even as its tentacles reach out for the gobber againl. This time, it doesn't suceed in nabbing them. Eztli and Tlanex are noted too, and really, it seems like it's intending to go for them next.

Aelwyn hisses as he gets bitten, but undaunted, he swings his blade upwards at the creature. "Tch, this one takes a lot of fire." He rumbles as even more fire gets thrown at the creature. He continues to attempt to stand in the creature's way; giving his head a shake.

Imagine burning moss covered trash from the Alexandrian sewers. It smells at least that bad from all the fire being poured onto it, and it's really starting to shed mass. Leaves break away. Branches and vines melt under the intense blazes.

Buit it holds on, and it keeps trying to lash out.

The goblin ducks behind Aelwyn as the vines flash out towards her again, she squeaks and then hops back a few steps, then seeing an opening, she finds another bronze scale amongst the ruffles of her petticoats. Crunch crunch goes the dragon scale, and she lets out another gout of flame to scorch away tentacles from one side of the mound, some of her flames landing on the stone building and sticking to it, insistently burning on the impervious rock for a few seconds before giving up.

Tlanexhuani's snorts at the stench of burning foliage. Not what he expected it to smell like, but the fire seems to be working. Or at least making it very angry. He does not have any fire of his own, though, and itsn't sure how best to help... until both Aelwyn and the goblin are snatched up in spikes or tentacles. "No!" He then lunges for the tentacle around The One Whose Name Was Taken and gets a good grip on them. By wedging at least arm in the coils. It might be unclear who is really grabbing whom and he isn't able to loosen the grip on the gobber.

"Thanks for the save Etzli, now... lemme do something that might not be smart and try to rescue Aelwyn." The gobbo says, zooming off with hasted speed, ducking through flailing vines and diving into the tentacled mass to grab Ael's hand, then the both of them vanish with a pop and reappear just outside the tangled mess, "Okay, now we can continue to ruin its day." she adds with a smirk.

Just about as soon as Nameless finishes that sentence, she is nabbed by the Maw and disappears into its whole mouth.

Really.

Now he's had practice, and second time is the charm. He lunges and manages to get hold of the gobber and pluck Nameless from the plantentacled thing. "It's just going to keep grabbing people!" Eztli growls, debating leaving her spot, but instead moving her hands and conjuring a pillar of fire in front of her, another flaming dragon that soars towards the plants, right through it this time, and leaving a large, smoking, circular hole down the path it took through the monster.

Aelwyn was about ready to tear through the creature by teeth if he had to - much to his stomach's chagrin - when he was suddenly yanked elsewhere. "This one is grate-" He starts, when that goblin is yanked and then thankfully rescued by Tlan soon after.

"... is it dead?" He asks, after a moment of staring. "And does anyone have any ginger?" He adds, making a slight gagging sound.

Well... seems that fire was still a good answer. Even better, putting the entire forest to fire wasnt necessary. If only the smell was not as bad.

Tlanexhuani ensures Nameless is on her feet before he uses one hand to cover his nostrils and another to prod at the holed pile of compost. "This one is hopeful. Was only one, ssa?"

Giving a sigh of relief as she's yanked free of the monster's grasp, the goblin pats Tlan on the shoulder and says "Thanks." while searching through her pockets and ruffles for another dragon scale or something else that can make more fire, when Eztli's blast finally chars the thing enough to stop it. "Oh, good. It's dead. Fiiiinally. For a creature that clearly hates fire, it seemed to take an awful lot of fire to kill it." And then she gives another sigh, "And I'm exhausted and-" with a wince, "injured, and out of the fun spells. Have those wizards got here yet?"
