Good news: You're hired.

Bad news: It's for a lousy, stinking job escorting a caravan from Alexandria to the Mythwood. It's a classic adventurer job but one that's a grinding, awful way to spend a few days in the middle of the winter. They're not expecting trouble, of course, but they're apparently carrying a substantial amount of gold to purchase elven artwork for a handful of nobles waiting for it in Alexandria.

Thus, you've been walking on the frozen ground, or riding in the wagons, for the last day and a half. This is boring work. Gold, however, is gold.

And gold is cold. At least that's what Deanna is thinking at the moment. The precious metal is just on the wagon and Deanna made sure to catch a ride on it. "Soooo...we're supposed to deliver this where....again?"

Gull has been spending most of the trip on the wing with Agewe, his familiar, keeping an eye on the road ahead, looking for ambushes. With little real trouble to...er...trouble...the caravan, the witch has opted to catch up on his flight time, as much as he was tired of listening to Agewe complain about the cold.

"Mythwood.", the furred bundle of Gobbo says in response to Deanna. "It's a bit too late to think ye've made a myth-take, though. Just as long to walk back now as it is to walk there, best to get it done so we can sleep in warmer places than what we have had on the road.” The large worg that Murder rides upon yawns and snuffles at the ground, moving a bit to the side as the beast sniffs at something that's caught its attention.

Daechir is near the back, keeping out of the way as he keeps watch for anything untoward. He hasn't spoken much except to those who have met him before but he's been very friendly to all of those who have offered him greetings. Those who notice such things may have noticed that he has been particularly friendly to the members of the caravan who aren't actually members of the adventurer's guild. Notably he's also walked as much as possible; not having an animal to ride and choosing to avoid riding the wagon for reasons of his own.

Out in front of the caravan is Sir Soup! His DireCorgi with all the ease of double coated dogs everywhere, seems unhampered by the snow and cold. Sir Soup himself is bundled up in his winter clothing and cloak. His gloved fingers strumming his lute as the great canine prances back and forth across their path.

"What hey, what ho, this way we go. What hey, what ho, over hill and foe. We run, we walk, we freeze our tongues if we talk. What hey, what ho, this way we go. What hey, what ho, under trees too low. We wander through snow, ice and rain, our boots filled with chill and pain. What hey, what ho..."

The Gnome's lute borne tune flows through the wood. As much a warning to possible enemies as it is a way to pass the time and hopefully lighten spirits.

The egalrin didn't really say much to the rest of the group, as she seems to be still getting used to this city. But the best way to get to know the city? Volunteer at the Adventurer's Guild! In this case, Seanait has volunteered little beyond her name, though she doesn't seem to bear much in the way of weaponry... or really, any gear aside from the basic essentials.

The wagon is creaking along merrily at this point and soon you find yourselves at mid-day with still a good number of miles to go. The weather has caused you to lose time, and frankly, it's not looking like it's going to get any better. The savvier hands amongst you are recognizing that it's looking to be a winter storm and that's only going to cause you to lose /more/ time.

A bit of time is spent scouting for a good place to make camp and hole up for it to blow over and it isn't long before Murder has identified the best spot, a small ways off the main road, with a number of trees to one side that will serve as a windbreak.

You spend an hour digging in.

Gull has swooped down to the ground, working on doing his share of the work. He piles logs for the fire high, his southern background making him uncomfortable in winter conditions when not wearing fur, feathers, or blubber. Agewe continues to lazily circle, preferring to keep off the ground and out of the way of the stomping humanoids.

"This is gonna get bad." Deanna sighs as she helps them dig in. She doesn't complain about the work, but she seems more worried about the storm.

As well as finding the spot, the Gobbo puts a lot of effort into making as comfortable a camp as possible, given the wintery weather and impending doom... impending storm. "Nah, not too bad. As long as we don't get snowed in deep, we'll b'fine.", Murder says cheerfully. "O'course, we're gonna be later than the late we were going to be, before."

Seanait helps as much as she can with the work, not complaining about the storm. Though she does ruffle her wings a bit as the wind starts biting a bit more, shaking her feathers as she glances towards Murder, "Better to be late than not to arrive, I think."

Daechir helps the others without complaint and still mostly silent. He does watch his companions with interest as they speak to one another, particularly those whom are familiar to him, but he lets them do their work as he does his own. The mul'niessa spends a few seconds after the work is done cleaning his clothes of the dirt and wetness that the hard work has left behind.

"Not quite the adventure I was hoping for." Soup says as he reigns over his canine and then sets it to a task while he begins to dig in his pack. Having the animal digging a bit away from the clearing, setting up a latrine pit near a handy downed tree. He trims off the limbs from said tree, and drags over snow covered brush to help wind break, and serve as handy kindling if needed. The DireCorgi happily goes about its task, even against the frozen earth, soon producing a hole that could be a danger as well as a blessing if rations prove to unhinge stomachs.

"Everything will be fine!" Soup declares. "We have two great heaters to keep us warm." He motions towards the two digging dogs, who have now likely created a shitter that could swallow two or three of the group. "Why once I battled a storm with drifts so high my nose was scratching against the fresh snow. My trusty steed kept me warm through it! Though he can be a bit wiffy. Dry food gets him the winds something fierce." The Gnome continues to drag around brush. "This will just make our story all the grander for when we regale it at an Inn!"

It gets dark fast these days, as of course it would, and soon it settles into a fine, misty night. The storm picks up as expected and the wind starts to howl, battering the wagons you've taken shelter in.

Except, of course, for the poor unfortunate souls who have to keep guard.

That'd be you guys, by the way.

Deanna says, "Stories are only written by the survivors, Soup. So, we kinda need to live.""

Gull shakes his head. "I'm going to be taking on a warmer skin for awhile. I'll change into something a little more battle ready if anything fierce comes in, you guys yell if you hear anything, yeah?"

Seanait hmms, "Not as cold as it can get in the mountains... but then we normally retreat inside at /that/ point." She doesn't mind so much, tilting her head as she keeps watch from her perch.

The Goblin makes a face at the mention of DireCorgi wind. "Ewh. Thanks for that imagery.", she says to the Gnome. "A great story so far. We fought the winds and lost, protecting the wagon at all cost. The dogs let rip, and we let slip, and the snow covered fields we crossed." She gives both pooches a shove, and goes back to putting up a lean-to, to provide some lee-way to get out of the winds.

Daechir smiles at the conversation. "Perhaps we can - those of us not currently on watch - take shelter in the hole that the canines have dug."

Deanna says, "I think the pooches have made it for themselves first, honestly. Which is fair. Now if they can make the hole bigger.....We would definitely appreciate it...""

At one of the wind breaks, the DireCorgi hunkers down, the small armored gnome nestled into the animal's side. Soup laughs at Murder's tune. "Not bad." Then peers at the others talking about the pit. Before he shrugs and settles down to take a nap. Content and safe in the knowledge he's sleeping next to a giant hyper active dog with doggos senses. Though he does keep his helmet on in case a squirrel runs across the way.

"Thanks!", the Gobbo says, cheerfully. She looks to the Gnome a moment, grinning. "I know a few Elven songs that I can mangle later on for y- OOOOOF." The worg appears behind the Goblin, and gives her a shove with his head. Tumbling into the hole, Murder starts to stand up when the worg follows her into the hole, and sits on her. Much like a mother hen settled upon an egg. Wilfred looks quite pleased with himself, his jaw hanging down with his tongue lolling out. "Youmangymuttgetyourbuttoffamenowyou'regonnapayforthis...", the Goblin mutters dangerously.

The storm continues, off and on, into the morning and provides everyone with fresh blankets!

Of snow, that is. The good news is that it's lightened by the time dawn's light cracks the horizon. Of course, that's also when, in the early pinkish light of sunrirse, you catch that someone is approaching the camp from a distance, staggering through the woods with a wounded moan. Coming towards you.

Gull shifts from seal to half-elven form, trekking towards the target quickly. "Traveler? Do you need assistance?" The witch wades through the snow with obvious difficulty, Agewe shaking free of the blankets he'd kept in. The light and fluffy snow clings to pants, but brushes easily from the hide robe around his shoulders.

Seanait perks up from her perch, shaking off a few blankets of snow as well as actual blankets... because, well, she might be a monk trained to ignore the weather and be stoic, but she's not an idiot either. Spreading her wings, she doesn't leap down so much as glide, landing lightly on the fresh snow as she glances towards the wounded man, starting out after Gull so they aren't going off alone.

Deanna is VERY curled up in a ball when the moaning figure comes up. "Ugh. BLAST it's cold out here." She says as she tries to keep her cloak around herself. it doesn't help with the DEEP chill though.....

"Careful! It could be a bandit trying to trick you for pity!" Daechir calls out to Gull, tracking after the other man with more caution.

"Waah!" Soup exclaims as he's roused from his sleep by the DireCorgi detecting someone new, someone to play with! Alternating between being bounced on the ground and dragged along behind the DireCorgi. He eventually regains his feet and hauls on the animal's guide line to bring it to heel. "Baah! What? Where?" Soup begins brushing snow from everywhere. Then climbs into the saddle to observe the newcomer, not saying anything else at the moment. Flexing his fingers to work life back into them.

The worg's head pops up out of the snow, and looks around, then giving a shake to clear the snow from its face. Wilfred wurfs and ducks back into the snow, pulling up the slumbering form of Murder. The canine shakes a few times, and the Gobbo squeaks and comes to life, flailing in surprise. "Oh! It's morning. And there's snow everywhere. DELIGHTFUL! Now we must dig out the wagon." She sneezes and then peers at the person stumbling forward. "Perhaps we should get a fire going?", she asks of no one in particular.

Still moaning, the figure reaches the campsite and then collapses into the snow all together.

"H-..heelp," he manages to wheeze.

But that's when you see something else.

Clackity, clackity. Figures in ancient armor and with blades free of rust. Elves.

Except, you know, not flesh and blood ones, no.

Skeletal elves. Animated skeletal elves. With weapons.

Awesome.

The caravaneers are horrified. There's a lot of 'well what the hell' and 'take cover in the wagons' and 'oh gods we're all gonna die!"

"Well, well, not quite what I was expecting but no match for my skill none the less!" The Gnome says as he buckles his helmet securely in place. "Watch their steps on the right, see that shuffle? With the snow it makes them vulnerable. Now everyone, just stand a bit back so Malfeasance and I can get to our duty!" He limbers the lance from his saddle and shifts it in his grip. Leveling the weapon towards the oncoming enemy as the Dorgi begins to paw at the ground. (Granting everyone "Tandem Trip")

Seanait spreads her wings to help balance her strides on top of the snow, moving forward towards the group of skeletons, but stopping about halfway there. Then she raises her voice, letting out a piercing shriek of challenge as she assumes a combat stance, waiting for the skeletons to advance.

A few of the skelves stagger forward out of the entanglement that Daechir has placed them in, their bones clattering inside their armor. Others still continue to move within it, if slowly, while others simply draw ancient bows from across their back and open fire with a fusillade of arrows. One nearly strikes Seanait in the chest, directly, but she is able to deflect it at the last moment. Daechir is winged, as is Gull, while several others impact the ground before them. Even in death, elven marksmanship is good.

Seanait moves forward quickly, spreading her wings as she discards the arrow that she caught at the last second. At the last second she jumps upwards, launching a kick at one of the skeletons just outside the entangling vines and giving it a solid crack in the jaw. Though the lower jawbone rattles to the snow, the skeleton still looks animate... if slightly indignant now.

Soup's lance rather harmlessly bounces off one. Apparently, lances are not great at fighting skeletons. Who knew?

Seanait pauses, weaving nimbly out of the way of the skeletons' attempts to hit her, then suddenly goes on the offensive, springing out to kick at one. Though the kick narrowly misses, she snaps her wings out to catch herself, twirling around and buffeting a nearby skeleton, before she punches the skull clean off the body, dismissing the magic animating the corpse in the most direct manner possible.
