The Jabbering lunarics come sprinting barefoot through the halls at their masters mental call, some of them howling, some of them sobbing, some of them muttering to themselves in some strange, alien tongue that doesn't seem like it should be possible to pronounce with human anatomy. And yet they come. Aelwyn's glaive sweeps at them, and draws blood from them- but not fresh, crimson blood. It's black and thick and smells of decay barely masked by formaldehyde.

They throw themselves at the assembled adventurers, clawing and grabbing at them with startlingly strong limbs for their emaciated appearance- Harkashan's magic staves off the worst of their grabs, but one of them manages to get ahold of Rune's collar, and is joined by a second of the cultidsts wrapping his arms around her as the two of them begin attempting to drag her to the ground.

Alienist Clifflowe gasps at the holy flames searing his servitors, one hand clutching his chest where blood spreads from a gunshot wound delivered by Dirk earlier. "You meddling fools! You will not stop the great work! You cannot!" he shouts, his mouth practically foaming. In the light of Harkashan's spell, his skin seems especially pale, his hair soggy and his lips blue. He looks almost froglike in the harsh glow. He lifts his cane up and then slams it back down onto the tile underfoot, his form evaporating into a swirl of black smoke as he is swept elsewhere by his magic.

As the lunatics rush forwards, Harkashan recognizes their tongue. He does not speak it, but rumbles; "These appear to be speaking the tongue of Aberrations. I do not believe these to still be human." He notes as he points a finger to the air. "Rune, flames!" As they share a moment of a look...

Followed by harkashan closing his hand, and a burst of fire coming from his closed hand. "The Deathsinger demands your demise! Righteous Fury, Flame Strike!" As he brings his hand down. And with it, a wave of flame comes from the ceiling. Erupting from another dimension it almost seems, blasting downwards and searing with holy heat.

As the scene settles, small embers that look like scaly feathers dance in the air.

Harkashan rumbles, in between; "Alienist just teleported away. I last saw them playing the Piano to the North-west. These things are just here to keep us busy. Let's keep moving!"

Aelwyn hisses as the creatures starts swarming in. "Let our blades dance in unison!" He calls out - and swings his blade in an arc, slicing and cutting into the unholy flesh. He does not even flinch when most of them are swallowed in the explosion and instead swings his glaive in an arc towards the others swarming MAC-B1G. They drop dead.

Twirling around, with his blade gleaming with ichor and his ribbons slowly coming to rest, he turns to look behind him. "Where did Frog go?" He asks, narrowing his pupils at where the man used to be.

"Whatever it is they are saying, it doesn't sound pleasant." Rune agrees a split second before arms wrap around her, pinning her limbs to her side. There is a momentary jerk of her body at the invading touch, but she doesn't seem frightened like some might be. It's almost as if she were just waiting for an opportunity.

However, she doesn't have to wait long. Her eyes meet Harkashan's and she drops, letting weight drag down the creature holding her, all but pinning him into the spell that turns those nearby into crispy critters and neatly protecting her from the flames. Then, she pushes the corpse off of herself, blowing out a few singed strands of hair before giving her mate a bemused look.

Then, she moves to one of the remaining creatures, slashing at it with one of her blades, obviously a little slowed from her previous encounter.

The Mutants fall like grass- clearly this Alienist is more accustomed to dealing with less experienced visitors, or simply underestimated the adventurers. All the same, they fight with a fanatical fervor, even as they are cut down one after the next they claw and bite and grab at the adventurers. The last one standing turns on Rune after she plunges her dagger into his back, and then launches into a flurry of haphazard blows which ring against the magitechnical shield granted by MAC, but fail to strike true.

MAC-B1G cannot parse the dialogue uttered from the unusual biological units and Harkashan's blessing's prevent the same from restraining it. As the threat units are rapidly neutralized, it brings its havy manipulators to bear and slams them into one of the remaining nearby threats. Repeatedly. The length of the current threat array is reduced by one.

"My little fire-dragon." Harkashan rumbles at Rune as she gives him that bemused look. He then lets out a quick draconic-like little roar, as he quickly casts his own spell of celerity; "They're not at the Piano!" Running forward, ensuring everyone is touched by the spell. "Fan out, but remain within eye-contact of eachother!"

Looking around, he does spot some scuff-marks. "Check out the Eastern corridor, near the southern wall! There's something funky about that spot!"

"Ah, will Twin grows wings of fire? Will her presence grace the skies?" Aelwyn calls out with a wide toothy grin, then makes a grandiose turn and a bow whilst heading towards the Eastern corridor. Yes, scuff marks. Meaning - completely lost on the Dragoon.

After a moment of consideration - he then smacks the wall with his glaive. "... it sounds hollow!" He shouts to the rest of the party. "Perhaps empty room?"

It is now Harkashan's turn! Alienist Clifflowe is next!

"If I had wings, I doubt they'd be of fire." She sticks her tongue out at both Makari. With Harkashan pointing out that there is something unusual, and only one of the aberrations lingering as a threat, Rune seems to all but ignore the one next to her and she races after Aelwyn, "I see it. Give me a bit, I've got this."

With that, she crouches near the wall, hands running along it, then reaches to her side pouch to pull out a couple of tools and begin wedging them into small gaps in the wall. There is a sound of metal on metal, and then a click, and the wall slides open, revealing a staircase leading downward.

Rather than pointing it out verbally, Rune motions her hand to the others, then mimes 'downward' with her hands.

One damaged threat unit remains in line of sight, and it confirms its threat status by attempting to harm unit designate Aelwyn. MAC rotates is torso one-hundred eighty degrees from the prior threat, extending a manipulator to connect with the remaining unit. This crushes and/or detaches vital components from the remainder of its chassis, rendering it inactive. It then advances to the hall and down it, following others' indications.

Harkashan, hearing the click and clack of that gate opens, turns on a dime and rushes eastwards to get through the entrance and just /rush/ down the stairs. There's a blur of red as that tail soon disappears past the door and down the stairs.

He decides, perhaps wisely, not to speak up. But he isn't exactly the most stealthy lizard in the world.

The ruddy sith-makar looks around the corridor as Rune does her magic on the hidden doorway, and he watches Harkashan rush in without a word. Taking up his glaive, he moves past Rune and grins his macabre grin at her. "A shame," He flicks his tail and then he heads down the stairs, coming to stop next to Harkashan. He gestures towards the doors with his head, then gestures with his glaive at them. Smash and run in?

Rune moves to the side just far enough to allow the others to head down the stairs as she tucks away her tools. A moment later she is utilizing the magical-speed she's been granted to race after the two Makari down the stairs. "Doors aren't locked or trapped. At least so far as I can see." But that doesn't mean she knows what is on the other side.

As the group descend the stairs, they are met by a strange smell. Sickly sweet, tinny, chemical. A mixture of decaying flesh, preserving chemicals and incense. The room is tiled in granite and buried some fifteen feet into the earth.

Harkashan keeps running the moment Rune declares there are no traps on the door. Pushing it open, and rushing through the halls. Listening carefully. Making ruckus so the others can easily follow him. "Heading South-west..." He announces, getting closer to a door and just barging through. Holding his breath as vapors assault him, and keeps going north.

"North into a library!" They can hear him shout from further away... then...

"Found him! Careful of the vapours in the room between the library and the hall!" As he points at the mad man before him. "Halt this instant. What do you think you're doing?"

GAME: Harkashan rolls Will: (19)+22: 41

The basement is lit well enough with lanterns on the walls- it clearly sees regular use. The first large room that Harkashan passes through as soon as he opens the doors is a store room, filled with racks of alchemical and sundry supplies. When he opens the door to the south, a thick bank of caustic fumes rolls over him- they sting at the eyes and nostrils, and he feels them soaking between his scales even as he holds his breath. The library is filled with tomes bound in various leathers, some of them looking suspiciously like their bindings have come from more or less intelligent creatures.

Finally, he comes across Alienist Cliffowe. The man is surrounded in warped, twisted illusory doubles whos features beggar belief, tugging at the strings of ones sanity. He stands over a dissection table. IN the south of the room is another large tank of Formaldehyde- this one contains the bodies of three town watch, to judge by their matching armor. Each of them is missing the top part of their cranium. Clifflowe holds a wet, dripping brain in one of his hands, the other brandishing his cane towards Harkashan. "You never should have come here, fools! Too blind to see, too deaf to hear!" he babbles.

Aelwyn curls his nostrils backwards. "Why does it always stench?" He quickly wraps leater wraps around his face, then he stuffs his makeshift gasmask with ginger. He slowly exhales, gives the others a gloomy look - then rushes in after Harkashan. Regardless, the gas and the poisons still make him stumble and gag, feeling ill.

"Whatever, monstrosity, stop, fire, cut you down." Then he leans forward and takes a moment to try and gather himself.

Rune reaches for the bit of cloth she uses as a mask, pulling it up over her face, though she suspects that if this is some sort of magical effect, it won't really matter. Then, she races after the two Makari, continuing to move in their wake. The fumes cause her to cough once, the burning feeling irritating her lungs.

Then, she's nudging past the two males and into the room, giving a glance towards the 'caretaker' and his strange magical effect. "Magic." She mutters. "Any idea what the fuck all of that is?" She asks, her hands gripping her weapons.

"Sir, I do believe you are the one too blind to see, and too deaf to hear..." Harkashan is dismayed at what he's seeing. Corpses, so mishandled. The books in the library, made of peoples' flesh! The very kinds of things that Deathsingers stand utterly opposed to!

"Too blind to see the suffering you have caused, and too deaf to hear the wails of those who have wished for mercy." As he points his blade at him. "So I will bring them that mercy, by taking care of you." As the maddening presence stands before him, he resists it, much as his scales refused to permit the vapors to harm the strong bodied Sith-makar.

As the others step in, there's a growing aura for Harkashan, increasing his 'presence' and covering for his allies, as he reaches out to Rune and gives her the ability to Truly See his foe, before rushing forward, trying to flank the man, slicing at him as he tries to get away from Harkashan!

He crushes it in his large hand, globs of fatty tissue falling to the ground as he walks away, Harkashan's swing striking the magical field he surrounded himself with and failing to land. He suddenly turns, and vomits forth a wave of corrosive acid towards the other three- it sears flesh from bone where it lands. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand. And laughs as he hears the nosies above.

"Ahhhh, it's too late. My apostles wake, and they will spread across the land, sharing such... such divine knowledge." he says, eyes bright and manic as he suddenly lashes out, sending a surge of dark energy towards Harkashan- but it shatters against the strength of the Deathwinger's magic.

The sudden spewing of acidic vomit in her direction catches Rune uncharacteristically off-guard. It leaves bare flesh, horribly burned along her untattooed arm, revealing the silvery sheen of her mithral armor beneath it that seems untouched.

"If that's the sound I expect it is, that's one of our friends making short work of your apostles." She manages to grit out the words, pushing back to her feet. "That fucking hurt." His hand moves the magics cast his way aside. As the madman speaks of Apostles awakening and sharing 'divine knowledge' along the land, Harkashan knows he cannot risk this man remaining around anymore!

"Let the Deathsinger take you!" He demands, as he draws a mark in the air that glows a bright and brilliant light, almost bright enough to blind each and everyone in the chamber. "And learn what true divinity is!" As a wave of light suddenly cascades upon the man...

Followed by the man's equipment and possessions to drop on the floor, and nobody remaining in his place. "We should sweep this place quickly. We do not know if those Apostles he mentioned are here, or elsewhere in the land!"

Then the ruddy sith-makar shakes his head. "This one shall make certain the rest of the room is free of those creatures." He bows his head to the others and then moves to the next room, starting to tap at the various objects in case they decide to start moving on their own.

As the dust (that was formerly an insane sorcerer) settles, the room falls quieter. There are no more gunshots ringing above, so either Dirk had defeated whatever it was on his own, or else is incapacitated or just gone. Or the thing he was shooting at is. Either way, no more sounds from above. Down here, there are bubbling jars with preserved organs, blood stained disection tables, alchemical equipment. Books on the deep sea and astronomy, journals full of maddened ravings.

Something that keeps coming up, a repeated phrase, "The water and the void are one." and something about the "Song of the cosmos." it sounds like that's the tune in his head he was failing to translate to piano earlier.

GAME: Harkashan rolls Knowledge/Arcana: (2)+5: 7

Dirk has arrived.

While Rune can blend enemies with the best of them, there are times that she looks at the works of destruction that magic can bring about, and has to sit back and take notice. In this case, she steps back from the fallen clothing and takes the momentary breather as time to check her wounds. She takes out a canteen and pours it over the worst of the acid burns, hissing to herself in the process.

"I don't know jack about magic, I'm afraid, so this is all beyond me." She takes a look around, though, sometimes poking at a jar or taking a look through some papers.

Harkashan is, unfortunately, having a bit of a hard time with the writing himself. He keeps coming back to the repeated phrases. But it means nothing to him. And while he linguistically might know some of the languages and the like in this place -- the mad ravings are beyond him. "Maybe I should have found a way to keep him around to explain all of this for us..." He mumbles, a bit belatedly. "Did he have anything on him that might provide a clue?"

MAC-B1G was prepared to strik the threat again when it is unexpectedly removed from existence. "Unit designate Harkashan, this unit evaluates your offensive capabilities to be highly efficient." It then begins to scan the various devies within the room, to include the tank of nearly-intact uniformed units. They are evaluated and analyzed through the transparent container. "Processor component removed from units with precision, leaving unit chassis intact. Hypothesis: units prepared for re-use of chassis with alternative processors."

Aelwyn looks at the corpses of the poor members of the Watch, and slides his hand along his mane of quills. Shaking his head, he leans against the doorframe, hooking up his foot. The Dragoon's eyes survey the room and the other room beyond it, towards the stairs.

"This one believes the task was not to solve the ramblings of a madman, perhaps this should be left to those who are prepared to lose their sanity." He calls out and then adjusts his mask of ginger. Why did it smell so bad?"

"Ohhhnnnngh..." Dirk slowly pushes himself up to sitting, reaching up to rub his temple. "Och, what a terrible dream. I thought--" His words cut off as his eyes blink open, and he spies the corpses of two smushed brain-creature -things-. His face turns as white as his beard, and he scrabbles to his feet. "HEEK!" He skitters back until his back hits the wall. He snaps up his thunderbelcher, pointing it at the dread beasties. The barrel wavers as his hands shake, and his hefty middle gives a rather unhappy-sounding gurgle. He gulps hard, sucking deep breaths through his nose. "Wha... what the fuck -is- that? WHAT THE FUCK -IS- THAT!?" he cries in a strangled tone.

Looking around in a panic, he starts sloooowly shuffling his way to the door, hoping to reach his comrades before someone else's brain decides to get froggy. "Hello? Everyone okay? Everyone's brains still in their noggins?" he cries. He can't manage to tear his gaze off those horrific things. Once he reaches the stairs, he turns and scrambles down them as fast as his tubby stride can manage.

"We're down here!" Harkashan calls out as he hears Dirk in the distance somewhere. "Don't run through the fumes!" As he closes another book and lets out an annoyed sound as MAC-B1G makes a valid point about stuffing brains into the brainless.

"We've also got four workers missing still." He calls out. "Rune, do you mind coming with me to do a sweep through the place? I can get you through the vapor area if it's still there." He remarks. "Just in case the workers are skulking around. You've got that special sight for at least a few more minutes."

Suddenly, he spots something. Dust disrupted. "We've got invisible enemies to the south-east! Rune, hurry!"
