GAME: Zeke rolls 9d6: (38): 38

Zeke didn't feel the need to justify his step backwards from the dragon. Seldan more than had that covered by killing the beast handily. However, the injuries were piling up. There was simply no way to fight such fearsome creatures without such, but it wasn't just him that was bleeding now. Zeke closed his eyes and intoned a prayer to the Dragonfather. "Let Your Light sssshine down on thisss one Dragonfather." He said, and as the light built inside him he poured it out, allowing it to touch all those nearest to him - but avoiding the other dragon. He knew well how to share the gift of light with only those that he chose to do so.

Telamon draws himself up, watching the second dragon menace Verna. "Not this time," his voice rings out, strong and loud. And the starborn sorcerer raises his hand and snaps his fingers. It's such a small sound, but it reverberates...

And suddenly a vast, dark portal opens up around the dragon, wind tugging at everyone around as the wyrm is sucked in. Beyond can be seen distant, glimmering stars, and then the portal slams shut, nothing left but a faint fluting whistle and a chill in the air. Telamon growls, "Let us see if you like the view from my perspective, dragon."

With one last glance at the fallen dragon, Seldan turns and descends towards Verna, sword still in hand. His armor is still quite thoroughly scraped, and a curious black substance coats much of his visible skin. Whether that is dragon blood or something else would normally be hard to say, save that it is glittery, and a more inky blue-black spatters the white-feathered wings. Curiously, his armor is immaculately clean, and he lands next to Verna. "Zeke, we may have but moments!" he calls up towards the sith-makar, half-folding but not dismissing the wings yet.

Verna is not terribly keen on the dragon now in her personal space; moreso after it was not polite enough to suffocate, transmute, or cease to be. Then, it appears that Telamon caused it to reconsider in a sudden rush of air. Then it is ...gone.

The Mourner blinks twice, hands lowering somewhat from their ready position. "Is it-" Seldan promptly answers her query as he moves to side. "Understood," she exhales with a breath as she readies herself for a possible reappearance of repeated rapidity.

Zeke moves himself in Seldan's wake, rushing to his kin's side to be of further aid. He understands without being told that the dragon is unlikely to remain gone for long, so he lays his claw on Seldan's shoulder again and imbues the paladin with divine power. "Sssaaa. Asss before, onsce again!"

Telamon is invisible, but his voice rings out. "I don't know how long she'll stay up there, so be ready... ah, I've never gotten that to work before." Then he begins chanting again, black smoke pouring out to form the lithe, familiar frame of a lillend azata wrought from shadow-stuff and dreams. The angelic snake-woman begins to play on her lute, stirring the spirits of everyone listening, as Telamon shakes his head. "Call out if you'd like to request any music in particular."

"Is it gone?" comes the query of Rhain Padaryn across the way. He starts making his way across the open canyon floor to Seldan. The closer he comes, the more apparent his condition becomes. His robes are torn and slashed in places, and there's even dried blood on his arm, suggesting an injury of some sort.

Seeing that the thing is likely to remain gone for a moment or two more, at least, Seldan abandons his guard pose and raises his free, gauntleted hand, moving them in broad strokes before him, completing several relatively simple sigils. A word, and they burst into blue-gold-silver fire before him. He reaches for the sigil, touches it, then reaches through it, touching the sith-makar on its shoulder. "Her light shield you from the creature's vile acid." The sigils collapse around Zeke, taking on a shield-like effect.

Only when that is does does he turn to Rhain. "We know not for how long it will remain gone. It is not in my mind that we are done, keep your distance!" he calls.

It may be better late than never, but Seldan's spell inspires Verna to invoke a similar protection; that and the fact that her robes still reek from the too-recent vitriolic vomit. Her attention is focused somewhat upward, as if this is truly useful... until Rhain begins to approach and warnings are uttered. "He speaks true, be wary!" An open hand is raised to help stay the other Padaryn even as Verna steps towards him. Should the dragon reappaear, which they expect, she would not leave him without ready aid. That he appears injured is only further reason to approach.

Seeing that the dragon isn't quite back yet Zeke holds himself ready for some sign of the dark-scaled beast's return to imbue Seldan with more of that divinity which might aid him.

The elegant half-elf is still invisible, the only sign of his presence the faint whisper of wind and his voice. "Hold! It's not done yet -- I've trapped it, but I don't know how long it'll stay trapped in the void! Stay back!" Meanwhile, his conjured lillend continues to play, to keep hope aglow, a sprightly tune that speaks of harvests, autumn cooking, apple cider, and mischievousness.

Pop.

The dragon shimmers back into existence and roars with complete indignation and fury. "YOU KILL MY MATE, AND THEN YOU SEND ME TO THE COLD VOID OF THE STARS? I WILL REPAY YOUR UNKINDNESS WITH CERTAIN DEATH!"

Aaaaaand, the dragon pops back in, right on cue. It even has a lot to say, all of it in a language Seldan has no knowledge of, but the indignant roar speaks volumes. "There you are! In Eluna's holy name, I send you to join your mate!" he shouts, dopping the free hand and lunging with magic-enhanced speed at the infuriated creature.

Galvanized by song and bolstered by the touch of the divine from a flesh-clawed hand just behind him, his blow strikes true, catching it between neck and shoulder and burying the gleaming metal - not without a gleeful cacophony from the blade in his hand and a shower of insults and vivid descriptions of the thing's parentage, ugliness, and likely future prospects - hilt-deep in the creature. The blow is so hard that it sends bits of scale flying, splits hide, and shatters bone, and he yanks it out with both hands and all of his strength.

He staggers backward, sending a shower of ichor, scale, and bone chips for several feet across the rocky field, and nearly overbalances on mighty wings. The sword ends up resting point down on the stone, the point behind him, the dragon slumping with a half-voiced screech that barely had time to breathe behind it before it is sent without mercy to join its mate, and he is left to breathe hard. "Now it is done, and may Her light shine brightly upon you for that, Zeke."

"A Silverguard?"

The question comes from a stunned Rhain Padaryn, his blue eyes looking over the group but particularly staring down the servant of Eluna who has torn down the dragon in such a terrific fashion. Yet there's something... odd in the man's expression. It's more than awe.

"You have to help me," he says softly as he takes a few steps forward. "Please. Tell me--tell me your name, quickly. We don't--we don't have much time."

Telamon reappears, as he dismisses his conjured azata with a wave of his hand, the summoned creature dissolving into smoke as he floats down to stand next to Seldan. Getting a careful look at the Silverguard -- and the dark ichor on him, not all of which is dragon blood -- he says quietly, "Are you all right, Sir Knight?" At Rhain's inquiry, Tel's dark, starry eyes snap back up to study the man. His gaze is cool but not unfriendly, as he offers a polite bow.

Zeke nods as the dragon falls to Seldan's far superior warrior skill and steps back; turning toward the man who is looking at them. It's not his question to answer, so he says nothing for now, only watching his kin and giving the other male an encouraging look.

"I am well, Archmage." Suddenly, Seldan hesitates, looking down at himself and entirely missing Telamon's stare. "Thanks to my kin. I am Seldan, and indeed am I of her Silver Guard. Time grows short, but for what?" He draws himself up, surveying the wizard before him. "You are injured."

Rhain Padaryn shakes his head, reaching out towards Seldan. "What's happening--happened--to me is far worse than this," he says, in a voice that is far more weighted than knowing than anything ever ought to be. "Do you know how long? How long I prayed to Eluna for absolution? How long I have asked the Seer to help--"

The canyon scene quakes and shivers. Rhain Padaryn falls to his feet. "No, no, no, damn it all!" he shouts. "Please, please, you can't--you can't leave me here, don't leave me here, please, you have to--"

He screams in agony as the sky overhead cracks. It falls apart, the blue skies above expanding into stars that are eaten and consumed by a black hole in the center. Black liquid oozes down from Rhain's eyes. "You have to find the Eye!" he howls. "It's in the house! Somewhere in the house! Destroy it--"

His left eye glows blue, and then the world shatters again. Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Into the opening room of the house. No Eluna-sent door. No Mariana Padaryn.

But a set of stairs leading upwards... repaired with silver-blue steps that shimmer in the light. Like the door, the staircase has letters on it that mean nothing but can be read by all:

THE WAY FORWARD.
