Rainbows and Finger-guns

"Ohhh, hey, go down ye red roses, go down! Go down ye red--" the gnome lurches along, his arm thrown over the waist of another. Mismatched in both tone and height, the gnome and sildanyari lurch down the streets of the market, their pouches thick and their voices loud.

The gnome's blond hair flows in balding waves from his head--the sildanyari's in perfect locks. As they lurch, the gnome holds onto the sildanyari for balance.

Or perhaps it's the reverse.

The couple nearly kareen into a merchant stall to the left, right, and then the other. The act causes no little amount of cursing, swearing from merchants nearby.

GAME: Toha rolls perform/sing: (15)+5: 20

Market district? Well, Alaryn is here with her pushcart trying to sell her wares. Most of what she has are odds and ends. Random merchandise she has picked up on her travels, and leftovers from her father's traveling supplies. On one side of her pushcart lays a -finely- wrought suit of Scale Armor. "This is a planesrider's decorative saddle. The leather has been treated and is perfectly soft." she says to a passing potential customer, pausing in hawking her wares when she hears the singing.

There's a tall figure striding through the market, one that's nearly seven feet tall and clad in black and gray robes. It stops now and again at a merchant's stall but doesn't really linger long enough for anyone to get a good look under the cowl. Until the music is heard. Then the figure stops and a tail can be seen. A tail that wiggles slightly from left to right. Green eyes peer out from beneath the hood and watch the two stumbling in one another's arms with a trace of... something in them. It's hard to tell on a sith-makar's face. Whatever it is it stalls Zeke where he stands long enough for one to get a look at him if they're inclined.

"Scale mail? Do y'hear that? You could always be that merman you'd wanted to be," the gnome says. He leans back and looks upwards to the sildanyari beside him.

"Please. I wear that, and I'd sink like a rock!"

"You're just mad it's not /elven/ scale male. Aren't you?" the gnome asks, and nudges his companion. Probably near ankle height, because, well, gnome. Gnome and elf.

The elf coughs, and looks aside, his cheeks reddening. ...and then spots the sith-makar. "Lookit thaaaat!" he says, and points.

Toha is seated on a step leading into one of the more permanent structures, a wire brush used to scrub at a rounded plate much resembling one that defines and protects her right shoulder, save forsaking the myriad etchings for a far simpler one, a bright flame raised from darker steel, there's a low tune coming from the place that makes her voice, but with the intrusion of the staggering duet, the melody and even the lyrics are taken up quite well by the automaton.

"Oh it is not Elven scale. But it -is- enchanted with magic." says Alaryn as she steps forward and reaches to pick up the armor. Her pipe-cleaner arms should struggle with the weight, but they do not. She turns around to showcase the armor to someone who may be a potential customer. "You can see the crafter's quality. Only the most masterly crafted armor can hold enchantments you know."

Walking his way through the marketplace himself, Raethon's staff stamps on the ground as he looks about. He mostly listens, but he's looking for stuff too. Those that look his way, may notice that blue eyes of the staff are looking back at them, whether or not Raethon has noticed them.

Zeke freezes as he's pointed at, looking first one way and then the other before one blue-scaled claw pokes out of the robes to point at himself. Me? - His motions ask without a word on his part. He knows it's him though, the sudden flick of his tail shows that he is completely aware of this fact, but he makes the motion anyways and adds for good measure; "Me?"

The sildanyari blinks owlishly at the sith-makar. In a delicate way, it must be said--because sildanyari do everything delicately. He continues to point, in a befuddled sort of way--like man who'd just seen the very last banana nutmuffin. "That's--that's--" he stammers.

"That's rude to stare! Oh, heeey--well, I think he means it doesn't show enough skin. All elven armor--'"

  • THWACK*

"Hey! I thought you were off starin' at that lizard thing!" cries the gnome.

"I hear well enough to defend ...my delicate ancestral sensibilities. The mage there would understand," his sildanyari companion says, sniffing. Then points to his overly large ears. He looks back at the lizard then, and then the amazing, performing golem. "Can--I can I offer either of you a drink? Y'all are amazing. This is amazing."

"It's hit-your-partner-on-the-head amazing, is it?" responds the gnome, surlishly. Though, not too surlishly.

Toha isn't, at first, aware that she's singing again. She barely recognizes that she's actually being offered a drink, since, well... golem. The music sort of continues, as does the delicate scrubbing as her head turns toward the drunk pair.

A bit deflated when the potential customers quite literally ignore her whole schlemiel, Alaryn exhales and puts the armor back on her cart. She turns her head downward and takes a couple deep breaths. "I am trying father." she mutters softly to herself. But then she pulls herself together. Turning back to face the crowds of customers. "Has anyone seen a frying pan that you can fold in half to store in the field?" she asks, plucking such an item out of her cart to display.

One wouldn't have thought that Zeke could look any more startled than he does at being pointed at, but he looks even /more/ so at the offer that is made to buy him a drink. Hesitantly he takes a step back, looking back and forth. "Thiss one sshould..." He trails off, clearly thinking desperately for something that he /should/ be doing other than drinking right now. "...not?"

"You're sure you don't want 'un?" asks the sildanyari. His voice slurs a bit at the end. He starts to lean on his partner--except his partner is a gnome.

He falls, tripping over the much shorter man, who'd just moments before had turned to the merchant, his fingers raised, "Oh, why--I'm a crafter in my spare time. It's why we're her--"

And then. Then. KerSPLAT!

A man near Toha starts laughing, then breaks off after a look at the singing golem. "S'not bad," he says to her.

Zeke takes a step back from the unstable pair and ducks his head to them. "Thisss one thankss you for your courtessy, but..." He backs away further and almost - almost - bumps into Alaryn's stall. "Thiss one sshould return to the Ssoldier'sss Defenssse."

There's a humming noise! It sounds kind of mechanical? Whirring? Nooo it's making a whining type sound.... There's also another sound with it? It's like "eeeeeeee" And it's getting louder? Before long one can see folks diving out of the way, and the "eeeee" is still getting louder, then there's Kae! She's back! Riding on a new contraption! It's a small wagon! With artificed rockets on the back! She's trying to steer it by the tongue! IT's kinda working? Least until she runs into a building after one of the rockets peters out and the other still continues firing... When she hits, the rocket that's firing disconnects from the wagon and goes flying through the air, waaaay up in the air, before the contrail disappears....

Either the rocket's out of fuel? Oooor it like disappeared..." Still the second, which Kae is now holding, re-ignites and takes off, leaving the goofy Elf covered in carbon... and blinking a few times before she casually reaches up and pinches a bit of fire... on her head, as she had some hair sticking straight up. But that's ok it was just a little fire right!

Kae exhails some smoke, then slooowly gets up.. and then her hands pump into the air, double fist-pump! "Yay! That was fun! Now to do it again!"

Raethon says, "You shouldn't run off so quickly. Peace on your nest." Rae says to Zeke in draconic with a bit of an elven slant to it. "Calm. You're among friends here. Or, at least....some of us are." he then chuckles. "Don't let them bother ya.""

Toha rises as the fellow eats pavement and sets her project on the step with an absent, "Thank you." before venturing forward to help the besotted elf back into his feet. Or, at least make sure he didn't obliterate his nose.

"Oh my!" offers Alaryn as she sets her folding pan on the cart before stepping over and offering to try to help the fallen elf up. As Zeke almost bumps into her cart, the thing isn't huge. But it -is- delicately balanced over there.

Zeke barely manages to keep his tail out of the way of the cart when he's spoken to again - by yet another stranger. He ducks his head to Raethon, drawing his cloak more fully about himself out of pure habit. "Peassce on your nessst." He glances toward the two drunken men and then back again. The draconic seems to calm him somewhat however, or perhaps it's the request for him to do so. "Do you know them then?"

Inclining her head, Alaryn glances at the vials that escaped the fallen men's pockets. She reaches for one of the blue ones and asks, "What sort of drink is this? Do you sell them?" She is pondering making a deal of some sort to have them supply designer drinks for her to sell.

The two men (one gnome, one sildanyari) now lie along the ground--one having tripped over the other. The combination of the two having resulted in a SPLAT. And--to those paying attention, several tinkling, glass-like sounds tittering along the road.

"Hey--Zander? You see the name of that horse?" asks the gnome. Meanwhile, his partner, the sildanyari (Zander, apparently!) places a hand in Alaryn's, and accepts the help up. Because he's an elf, his eyes, and hair, manage to sparkle a bit while doing so. Those same eyes widen though at--

"Erm--" he says. He slips his hand out of hers, and looks at his partner.

Who, still kersplatted, gestures vaguely with his hands in the air around him, in a vague, drunken sort of way. "They help you sniff out gold."

Oh. That's all.

"Some." Raethon says to Zeke. "Some are new here, I imagine such as yourself...some have been here a while." he says before pointing to one of them. "that is Kaelyn. She is an artificer. A little silly, but a good companion." He then points to another. "If you are familiar with the divine...she is a Lancer, or a paladin of Serriel. Her name is Serrraphine, and she has a Hyena with her." he then looks to Zeke. "I am Raethon, by the way. Practitioner of the arcane."

As the elf is upright, the Golem alters course to chase the vials that are wandering off whilst folks get acuqainted. Get back here, you....!

Zeke's tail flicks from left to right, up and down. Anyone familiar with sith-makar can tell that he's nervous. Even if one /wasn't/ familiar, the darting green eyes are a huge indication. That momentary calm has utterly fled. "Ummm... Thisssss one issss Zeke." He says his own name oddly as though he can only just pronounce the 'z'. He lowers his voice then, quietly so that only Raethon can hear him. "We are being watched."

GAME: Toha rolls reflex: (11)+3: 14

"Do you make these?" asks Alaryn of the Elf. "Or did you purchase them somewhere? I would very much like to find a source to acquire some from." she adds as she holds the vial out to the elf it came from. She's not a thief.

Kae blinks a few times as something catches her eyes! "Oooh Oooh designer driiiiinks!" She calls out, while flailing her arms... "What kind do you haaaave/e!" And yes she's hopping off the wagon, that can so be taken badly and making her way to where she saw the cool drinks!

"They were a comm-comm...commission," says the gnome. He gets halfway to his feet, and then sways some. Maybe he's deciding if he wants to stand the rest of the way up! Not that it'd make a difference, anyhow.

That wasn't a short joke.

"Oh, yeah! He makes those all the time. He's really good. He could probably make some that sniffed out diamonds, I bet," replies the sildanyari, with some pride. He smiles at the gnome, and reaches down to squeeze his shoulder.

Serraphine meanders into the area, her hyena following reluctantly on her heels.

Because /SOMEONE/ has been escaping and causing havoc at the stables (including rampant and unwanted snoot boops) there's a piece of rope hooks to what looks like a leather... well, calling it a belt would be like calling a set of full bracers that ran to the elbow a bracelet.

I mean, sure on Mayra is doesn't look that big. It looks in proportion. But, she's a hyena the size of a horse so it is a lot larger than one might expect. Mayra is currently stopping every ten to twenty feet, turning her head to the side, and pulling her head back just hard enough to make herself uncomfortable. Followed by pitiful glances to all those around her.

See how badly I'm treated? these looks say. See how little I'm played with. The bit eyes, I starf. I always starf. COUGH-CHOKING NOISE that she totally didn't just cause herself by yanking her head back against the leash.

"Ma-a-a-ayra." Serraphine, the heartless Arvek, looks back at the hyena with a thin-lipped expression. Clearly this heartless Arvek is fine with the hyena's starf, lack of play, and is just trying to cause more mistreatment.

Toha plucks one vial in particular from the enterprising grasp of an oruch, "Thank you, brother." she says respectfully, then continues to gather what she can. Quickly, because, despite not being a 'city girl' she knows what a 'bad idea' sounds like. Like losing gold-detection in the money-wantingest part of town. <yrch-speak>

"Watched? By whom?" Raethon says to Zeke. "If you mean in general, then yeah...you're a sith-makar. Though I expected you in Mictlan. If you mean by someone strange...where?"

The blue-scaled sith-makar quietly begins to fold in on himself, seeming as though he means to disappear. He steps somewhat behind Raethon as though the other man can hide him. "Thisss iss bad." He murmurs the words to himself mostly, but his words sound as nervous as he looks.

"Okay." says Alaryn towards the guys. "Who is he? Where would I find this craft-person?" But yeah. Gold sniffing potions. There's gold all over this district. Wouldn't that be a problem? She inclines her head. "What this person needs... is an exclusive vendor to help him make sales to the public."

"...commission?" asks the oruch near Toha. He stands, and he tops about seven, seven and a half feet. "And they help you sniff out diamonds, you said?" ...by now, he's leaning over Toha, and invading the golem's personal space, a bit.

Likewise, Alaryn has a few merchants ahem. Closing in. Narrowing the gap.

"Yeah, it was a commission! We may have some extras, though--would you like to try one?" asks the blond sildanyari. He grins to Kaelyn. "I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, and I mean--we--"

"...number on that horse?" asks the gnome, who still seems to be debating on sitting up all of the way.

"I would love to analyze one." offers Alaryn. She glances left, then right. "People! It's a drink. I am sure that when you are drunk enough, you could believe you were sniffing out a rainbow, let alone gold!" She shakes her head. But then looks to the guys, "Seriously, I'd love to take two off your hands. But I would love even more if you could help me find the man who makes them." she mutters more softly.

HACK! COUGH! Mayra is totally abused, don't you see? Ignore that I'm pulling my head to the side to make the collar tighter while Serraphine is not even moving.

"Ma-a-a-a-ayra." A further thin-lipped expression, then a move forward and a flick on the nose with a shake of her head and a -sigh-. "You... are incorrigible, puppers." A shake of her head from side-to-side.

Toha looks up when the oruch raises up on her and tries to loom, her dark eyeslit glinting a wink of ruby light she locks her gaze to his, "Commissions sound fun." she comments urbanely.

GAME: Toha rolls intimidate: (13)+8: 21

Chomp. Crunch-crunch-crunch.

"Mayra? MAYRA! SPIT THAT OUT!" Serraphine stomps her foot. STOMP!

Mayra stares back at Serraphine. A blink. Crunch.

Serraphine jabs at the ground.

Mayra hands her head and spits out something that looks like it was crunchy and is now in pieces with bits of purple on it.

"Ma-a-a-ayra." A squint again at the hyena the size of a horse.

Mayra leaps forward and licks Serraphine which makes her flails her arms up in the air as she does her best impression of a certain person from a place not here, who once wore blue on half their face. Except... it's purple. Vibrant purple.

"_I_ made them," says the gnome. He hits the side of his head a few times. One can, unless one was not paying attention, _feel_ the gaze of several of the merchants on the sodden pair. They had been, well, talking of diamonds and gold in the middle of a mercantile district.

It's a little like blood in the water, in a sense.

"I mean--we haven't had a chance to test them--" and at those words, justlikethat, one might feel those same gazes--those same gazes? backing away. The oruch, between the gnome's statement and Toha's look of You'll Die Now, takes a step back.

S...so do a few others. And then, and then Mayra dives in, crunching one of the vials in her giant, hyena teeth. And then smearing it on Serraphine. That tension that Zeke had picked up on, earlier?

It's now holding its breath.

Kae blinks and peers at Serraphine curiously, then tilt sher head, then blinks again. "Ooh Lickit toooongue!!" She calls out happily. Yes there's flailing... Kae smiles cheerfully "Happy puppers!"

Zeke is definitely hiding behind Raethon /now/. He's surprisingly good at it. If he could have turned himself invisible it's clear that's what he would have done, but he can't so... He shrinks down and stands there silently.

Toha takes the relinquishing of her personal space with due grace and slowly, almost daringly, turns to make her way back to the two drunks to return their vials.

Mayra sits back on her haunches and looks at Serraphine. Another long blink, and a sort of confused chuckles, a tilt of her head to the side. Blink. And then off to Kaelyn. She stares and then picks up her front paws and gives Kaelyn the finger guns.

Serraphine stares at Mayra and raises a finger to point at her hyena when... What? She reaches out and bats those paws down. "MAYRA! I never. I taught you better than to do that." And with that she looks at Kaelyn too, and gives her the finger guns before slapping her own hands.

Rae looks at the....commotion and tilts his head, before looking to Zeke. "If trouble starts, that's a bad place to be. Firstly, I'd need your help. Second, you're taller than me....and third....I can fly."

"You just admitted to making gold finding potions around the most greedy bunch of gold-diggers in Alexandria. Come with me." she says to the Gnome as she walks to her cart, "I'm giving you a ride out of here."

Kae is looking at a swirly bottle with swirly liquid, she peers at Serraphine curiously and waggles the bottle some. Shake.. Shake.. Shake... Then she's gun-fingered at. "Ummmmm"

"Thiss one iss ssorry. Thiss one doess not like crowdsss." That is clearly an understatement from Zeke who is realistically cowering behind someone much smaller than him.

Toha's path is as quiet as the grave, as she passes by. Zeke's warning had been right on the gold piece. No few merchants watch the exchange, and the adventurers--the mention of 'gold sniffing potion' and 'diamond sniffing potion' had been sure to garner SOME attention.

When Alaryn points this out to the gnome, the balding man's eyes get a bit...wide. Perhaps he just now sees the large oruch that'd so recently shuffled away from Toha. Perhaps he's just in general, startled.

Or perhaps he sees the other merchant, stepping up near Alaryn. This one, like the oruch, is something of a burly sort.

The sildanyari, in the meantime, finger-guns BACK at Mayra. Then blinks a few times.

Rae looks over to the merchants and sighs a bit. "Crowds are really the least of your worries, Zeke." Rae looks over and....tries to cut a path through the 'bodies' in front of him.

GAME: Raethon rolls reflex: (8)+7: 15

Toha continues her trek toward the brand new targets of the ward, sweeping that cyclopean, unreadable gaze about the area, one hand, the empty one, crossing her waist to settle in the hilt of the long sword chained there. As she nears the two, she holds the vials out to them, "You dropped these. Things might be less tense... I think...."

GAME: Zeke rolls intimidate: (3)+6: 9

Rae makes a face. "I do hope this doesn't escalate to blows. Excuse me, Zeke." he says as he starts to wind his way through the crowd. He's not pushing anyone out of the way, he's bending every direction to slide through the gaps....

There's another big and burly merchant approaching Alaryn? Well, she smiles at him and says, "Hey, I think I have something for you here." And she reaches to her cart, "Where is it?" she asks, giving the guy a nervous smile before whipping her hand up with her Dragonspitter in it, aimed at the guy's chest. "Look. I don't want this to get uglier. I don't want to shoot you. You just need to step back from -my- cart. From -my- merchandise, and my customer." She's not really trying to be intimidating so much as using the firearm to buy a second to just... talk.

GAME: Alaryn rolls intimidate: (13)+3: 16

Zeke isn't very good at daintily making his way through crowds, but he is going to follow after Raethon intently, towering over everyone... including the one that he's trailing after so determinedly. He's found an ounce of perceived safety and Raethon's ploite goodbye is not enough to convince him to relinquish it.

Mayra does finger guns back at the Sildanyari while still sitting on her haunches.

Serraphine smacks Mayra's thumbed paws as they give more finger guns. "Stop that! Bad Mayra." The Arvek gives a sigh and another grimace, "You know very well you're not supposed to do that. I just told you." Another shake of her head and she shrugs at the Sil before turning to look at Kaelyn again. Her half-purple face says she's ready for battle, her half-normal face says she's grimacing, her hands say Eyyyyyy as they finger gun. Smack-smack! She hits her own hands and stares at Kaelyn. Another blink. "Sorry."

"Heeeeey--thanks!" the sildanyari says. He holds out his hands to get the vials from Toha. "We'd sure have missed these," he says. Then, winks at the golem, and ka-chick! fingerguns her!

"'ey, ey--no need t' bring _that_ to the table..." the merchant, who Alaryn is pointing a dragonspitter at says. He raises his hands. "No need to...you know, bring things _that_ far. ..."

In the meantime, the gnome is hurrying towards the cart. Or, he'd started to. He turns, and windmills his arms at his sildanyari partner.

Kae blinks curiously and peers at Serra... "Ummmmm.... " She looks at the swirly drink a bit.. Then offers it to Serra "Here you goooo! I hear they're tasty!" She says cheerfully.

Zeke follows hurriedly, trying to keep his eyes on everything at once. Then, watching this growing into combat he utters a prayer to the Dragonfather. Hoping that it will aid Alaryn, hoping that it will aid them all. He sends another one in its wake. A hope that this will not come to the need for his first prayer at all.

With all the new wolves circling the herd, Toha forsakes the sword for drawing a small black stone from pouches on either side of her waist and, with a quick glance to the particulars and knowing that this is going to suck really, really bad, cups her hands and slams them together, touching off both thunderstones to get everyone's attention elsewhere.

"Look. I'm sorry okay? I didn't want everything to go to hell in a hand basket." says Alaryn as she easily guides the Gnome into her cart. Then she aims the gun upwards and pulls the trigger. The hammer drops and nothing happens, "I'm not stupid. I don't keep the thing loaded just laying in my cart." She drops it into the cart and turns to start pushing the cart away like a mad woman.

GAME: Toha used a Thunderstone.
GAME: Toha used a Thunderstone.

Intended. To push-cart their way out of there. The key word is intended. Except...except well, a weapon effectively escalated things. A little bit. And, admittedly, things had been getting tense before then. A little pushing, a little shoving.

A little 'blood in the water' when it comes to merchants, and gold.

The guards attached to Alaryn's merchant MOVE, diving towards the cart and the gnome, the sildanyari. A few other merchants look ready to join the fray--or, all that would have happened.

Except there's thunder. LOUD thunder. Toha's stones crack the very air in the middle of the mercantile district. The sound stuns the chaos, and--thunders, thunders, thundercats--rolling into the experimental artifice that Kaelyn had scattered.

So do the potions. The air, the sky, is filled with brilliant, vibrant colors.

And Mayra in the middle of it, giving finger-paw-guns.

...

...

...

But at least y'all make your escape. Just. Covered in a few more rainbows than anticipated.

Kae's flailing! Her wagon, with the artifice in it, is kinda going kaboom.. with potions and stuff. "Noooo my tooooys!.. Wait," There's a pause.. "Ooh Ooh that's pretty!!!"

Rae sighs dramatically. "When merchants go to battle, may the screams of money and trade fill the heavens." he then shakes his head. "At least there isn't a demon to slay or a horde to wipe out this time." And he walks away.

After all that, Alaryn slows her cart a ways off and says, "It's safe." as she gestures to the Gnome, fingergunning as her finger shifts to point at the scale armor that has fallen over the Gnome's head.

Toha tilts her head and slaps it a couple of times...

"WHAT?"

Serraphine blinks and shakes her head, looking this way and that as she blinks a few more times. She swears she just tasted purple for a second...

Blink... Blink, shake, shake. "WAT?!" She finger guns at Raethon, then smacks her own hands. "I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING. I'LL JUST FIND SANDY, I HOPE SHE'S NOT LOST OR HOMELESS AGAIN." She starts to wander off.

Finger guns at Kaelyn. Smack! Bad hands.

Mayra gives another set of finger guns at Kaelyn before starting off as well. She might find Sandy too. Sandy would sure like to meet Mayra now.

Kae flails her limbs as she's finger-gunned not once but twice "Eee whyfore is everyone shooting fingers at me!" She calls out, and then spins some tooo!

Toha fingerguns at someone who was about to lift her abandoned project, though with some sort of sound coming through the LOUD RINGING, she calls out, "WHAT?"

Helping the Gnome get to his feet and out of her cart, Arlyn fingerguns his pockets for some reason before turning to look at the others. She yells to Toha, "Thanks!" but has no idea if she got heard. For that matter, she couldn't hear herself.
