(Start of the Plot)
"And so the end game begins." Sighs heavily an old but wise cleric of Daeus as he watches the gathering of what is left of the temple factions. "So few, yet so brave. May they all come back to us. If not, may the heavens grant them their eternal reward." He says, slightly above a whisper, more to himself than to anyone else.
A serrielite adjutant rallies all those assembled to their staging points, to which the respective faction leaders reminds those on the mission on what they are to do. Each member has rehearsed inside their heads what they are going to do. They are aware of the dangers of their mission. Some look ashened but determined to continue.
Many of their number have died in the attack that was just more than a day ago. Now, they go to apprehend the ones responsible.
The religious factions have gathered at the temple of Elune where many runes and sigils have been marked on the floors and walls to serve as focus for their teleportation. Groups converge towards their rally point and await for the signal to go.
You and your group are brought before one of these teleportation foci and told to wait as diviners and scryers literally sweat blood as they thrust their consciousness into an alien plane, making sure that your entry point will not be prevented as that would likely result in your deaths.
You have been told prior to your assembly what your task is. Apprehend the one called Matthias Fold. Bring him back dead or alive, preferably alive so that just sentencing could be brought upon his head.
It is a daunting task, but there are very few people who are powerful enough to face the monster, and those who are more powerful than you have been assigned elsewhere. You are not informed of what those other tasks are. 'The less you know the better' they say.
A prayer is made for everyone, empowering them all with the blessings of their gods, and then they wait for the signal.
A flag is raised.
Suddenly, there is a frenzy of movement as spells are being cast and energy vortices come to existence. Whole groups are swallowed and thrown into the ether. There isn't much to think, let alone to panic, as you and your group are sucked into your own teleportation vortex.
You feel like you are drowning inside a swirling maelstrom, your body twisting and spinning in a sea or dark energy. You can't breathe, and you feel like blacking out as your body is subjected to heavy G's. Just when you thought your life has flashed before your eyes, you crash land on firm ground.
You know you can't remain idle as you very know that the enemy is waiting for you. And so you push yourself up from the stone hard ground on where you landed, and prepare for the fight that you know will be coming your way.
You orient yourself to the place of where you are as quickly as your mind can allow it. And it begins to register to you that you have landed on some large dais. You register something else as well. You and your party are not alone in the room.
Standing to the relative north of where you are standing are four humanoid creatures wearing ornate battle armour. Full plate armours that have magical runes scribbled on the surface and gems that seem to give off wafts of potent energy.
The wearers of these armours have human faces, all marred by scars that have been made by whips and lashes. They appear to be sleeping, leaning slightly on their magically enhanced double blades. But it is not true. They are not sleeping. They are resting. Waiting. Waiting for you.
Their eyes open in unison as they stare unflinchingly at you and your companions. There is no fear in their eyes, but a curious gaze, as if wondering if you and your companions would even be a challenge for them. They begin to move as one, extending one of their hands out towards one of your companion.
You sense what will happen next.

Matthias Fold? Man? Monster? What do we know about him?" <OOC> Benthus says, "Mathias Fold is the person responsible for the gruesome murder of a man in the temple district. He later caused caused many deaths to people living at the outskirts of the city, posing as a magician entertainer and then summoning demons to kill all the villagers in the area. He has disrupted many businesses, both legal and illegal, and many people are after his head. Recently, based on this plots continuum, he attacked the temple district. Many died that day, not directly by his hands, but by the monsters he had summoned into existence. When the dust cleared, the orphans in the Temple of Althea are missing, and presumed kidnapped. A few hours later, a scouting group has confirmed the location of the man. About 24 hours later, a full scale assault is planned on his stronghold, said to be in another dimension, linked to the material." <OOC> Benthus says, "Mathias fold is, by all those who have met him, human male." <OOC> Cesran says, "4. What are these creatures and specifically what are any weakness they might have and conversely what sort of immunities or resistances do they have, if you need my to roll any knowledge roll just let me know which one." <OOC> Kravar says, "Any chance I can use some knowledge or other to try and figure out some info on these things? :)" <OOC> Godwyn says, "Attempting to roll knowledge/planes. This might get interesting." <OOC> Benthus will give it as a freeby, Godwyn. <OOC> Benthus says, "The five monsters ahead of you are called demons of insubordination. They have been fought before by the scouting team, but this particular group are the elite class. The best of the best. They are guarding the doors to their master and they will fight to the death." <OOC> Benthus says, "They are immune to poison and electricity, have damage reduction 10. SR16. And are resistant to acid, cold and fire 15. They have a unique aura that if you are within 5 feet of them, you will have to roll will or be affected by an affliction called 'insolence'. Basically, you stop looking at your allies as allies, so flanking and all other aids are no longer applicable. You have to succeed a will check of 19 to be immune to it for 24 hours. And if you are hit by the two ends of their double swords, you are compelled to attack your group's leader (which would likely be Cesran), for one round. A will save of 19 will resist the urge to do so. Also, they can smite good."
Kravar slides his sword from its sheath and raises his shield so that only the top half of his head is visible over the round edge. He squares off with the center-most armored figure, then begins to advance on it. "Tormenting orphans?" he calls out as he approaches. "For shame! Time to put an end to this villainy!" His voice is jovial, although his eyes behind the shield are wary and almost calculating.
Godwyn... says nothing. Not yet. These... things... are not her target. No, there is a different goal to be met, and she will meet it. They are in the way. She does however draw her great sword. It was time to end this.
Godwyn's eyes narrow, her head tilting to the right. "I've seen you all before... I've *fought* you before." She steps forward and whirls her weapon above her head. "You are nothing but in my way. So I'll remove you."
<OOC> Benthus says, "Group will be dropped around j10." GAME: Kravar places himself on the map as kr at location J10 (Medium). GAME: Cesran places himself on the map as Cr at location J2 (Medium). Note, there is a roof above your head. The ceiling is about 20 feet high. <OOC> Godwyn says, "Can they be challenged. Are they immune to mind affects." <OOC> Benthus says, "No, they can be challenged." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Then let's rock." <OOC> Benthus says, "Oh, Cesran, you have spellcraft, right? Mind checking to see if you can determine what active magic your enemies have?" <OOC> Cesran nods, 'No celstial t-rex...yet GAME: Cesran rolls spellcraft: (7)+31: 38 <OOC> Benthus says, "Wonderful. I'll page you what you will learn." You paged Cesran with 'corruption resistance, protection vs good, Bless, see invisibility.' I makes you immune to mind attacks like charm and domination. Provided that the caster is of the evil alignment." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Pretty much. GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order. Round One - Init 19. It is now Kravar's turn! Cesran is next! (Kravar readies an action)
Kravar leans forward, his weight coming onto the balls of his feet. He hears the familiar sounds of spell-chanting behind him, and then feels the tingling of magic seeping into him. If anything it makes him more eager to get into swords-length, but he manages to restrain himself.
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order. Round One - Init 17. It is now Cesran's turn! Elite Guards is next! It's a 20' radius" <OOC> Benthus says, "They share the same CMD." <OOC> Cesran nods.
Cesran eyes the demons as they are all bunched up, "Hold on for a moment." He says as he takes out a rod and then casts a spell of haste on himself and his allies. He then digs into his spell component pouch and takes out an arm of an octopus. He casts another spell at at the gates centered on the middle demon black tentacles shoot up from the ground and try to grab onto the demons, "That should drive them to us."
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order. Round One - Init 10. It is now Elite guards' turn! Godwyn is next! <OOC> Benthus says, "And drive them to you they do. Unencumbered by their powerful magic armours, they gather around the group in an attempt to encircle them..." GAME: Benthus rolls 1d20+23: (14)+23: 37 GAME: Benthus rolls 1d8+12: (5)+12: 17 GAME: You damaged Kravar for 17 points. 103 remaining. <OOC> Benthus says, "Alright, the rest have moved into their respective positions..." The elite guard at the center has a slight grin on his face when he sensed Godwyn attempting something on him. He shifts his gaze to Kravar when the person suddenly went into a readied position. His grin turns into a sneer. Suddenly, the ground around him and his men bursts and black tentacles begin to wrap around them. Or are attempting too. Powered by infernal energy and inhuman strength, the five elite guardians make little of the attempt to subdue them. When it is finally their turn, they move. The one at the center charges head first into Kravar, ignoring the intruders attempt to shield bash him. He drives one of his blades into the side of Kravar, and grins once more when blood is leaking through his opponents armour. The other four begin to move into their position, almost as if rehearsed...
GAME: NEW ROUND! Benthus advances the initiative order. Round Two - Init 22. It is now Godwyn's turn! Kravar is next! <OOC> Godwyn says, "Okay, they've flanked us." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Let's see if we can't break out of it." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Full Attack to the big bad ugly thing on my right... but let's see if I can't deal with both of them at once." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Instead of the Full Attack..." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Power Attack. Enjoy. ^^" <OOC> Benthus nods. Kravar, Cesran, you both have the ability to smite one of your foe for 1 minute. <OOC> Godwyn says, "They're demons. They count as outsiders." <OOC> Godwyn says, "This is likely going to hurt... +22 to your damage. Have fun."
Godwyn turns to her left as they surround them, and it's not long before she comes up with an idea. Instead of just focusing on one, she swings her weapon in a wide arc... and her weapon punches through the armor of one of the demons. It's unfortunate though that it doesn't seem to do much to the second enemy... and that makes her angry.
"Enough of this." She glances toward Kravar. "Get ready! We're breaking out of this circle!" With that, she takes in a breath and shouts her battle cry. "Forward Unto Destiny!"
Her weapons glow... but not just hers.
Weapons, armor... everything that everyone is wearing glows with the bright blue aura. "Let's go!"
GAME: Benthus advances the initiative order. Round Two - Init 17. It is now Cesran's turn! Kravar is next! <OOC> Cesran says, "5ft step back. The elite guards are slowed (except for g5) and damaged by Godwyn. Then they all get hit by a flurry of blows coming from Kravar. Only the toughest amongst them manages to shrug it off. The one at the front attacks Kravar but misses.
The two other guards positioned besides Godwyn recognizes her and declare their smite attack on her, calling upon their evil master to grant them with more demonic powers to slay her. They attack her in their slowed state, and their experience and strength as well as the will of their dark masters enable them to hurt her.
And hurt her badly.
They grin at her bloodied state, but somewhat amazed that she is still standing. The other two guards attack Cesran, both of them being able to hit him and draw blood...

Your holy attack did damage, but not much. Thankfully, their DR is mitigated by the smite. It could have been worse otherwise. Pose wounding it."
...and Godwyn is indeed, still standing. Their blows smash into her armor... through her clothing... but she still stands. And her features are grim, determined. She stares at the demon in front of her and staggers to her feet, her right hand on the torn rose emblem adorning the front of her tabard.
As the glow fades, she points her weapon at the demon in front of him. "You're going to regret that." And with a roar, she brings her blade to bear, ramming into its armor. Sparks and blood fly as the empowered blows strike home, the first one sending a resounding clap of thunder through the chamber.
The fourth strike scrapes against armor... but Godwyn does not care in the slightest. It won't be long now.

Kravar grimaces in pain as one of the guard's blows gets through his defense. He turns to focus on the enemy directly in front of him. Already in a fighting crouch, he leans forward even more to slam his shield into armored shins. It's enough to knock the enemy off balance, leaving him open for a few sword slashes. Every time the armored figure tries to fight back Kravar slams his shield into him once more to keep it off balance, and the rain of attacks slowly starts to wear the guardian down.

The lead elite guard and the two other elite guards that are flanking cesran recognize the aura surrounding the two and declare a 'smite good' attack on them. The lead elite guard attacks Kravar but misses in his attempt, slowed by Cesran's spell.
The other two elite guards flanking Godwyn continue their relentless and brutal assault on the Althean paladin, further increasing the amount of damage she has already sustained and bringing her closer to death's door.
The two other elite guards close to Cesran begin to engage him. The first one moves closer to him but is smacked down by a lunging shield attack by Kravar. The other one moves five feet closer and unleashes a battery of swings at the mage. Three of the nine Cesran images poof out of existence.

Everything happens all at once. She is assailed again from both sides, and falls to one knee again. The hand on her chest is the only sign she's still moving, but somehow she gets to her feet. With a shout of defiance, she raises her weapon and comes at the demon in front of her again, refusing to leave him alone!
One strike, two, and the first one slams home, taking a good chunk of flesh out of the Insubordinate. Yet her weakness shows... the next two do nothing. What armor is left on him protects him from her wrath.
But there is an evident smile on her face as well. "You're mine."

She's stopped a lot of their attempts to kill her and her companions, but she can't stop everything.
Godwyn is too weak, too battered to avoid the attacks that come at her, and the second strike causes her to slump to the ground in one good hit. It catches her in a bad place, but just enough to where she blacks out.
She might not get to see justice done, but she can't say she didn't try... and before her vision goes dark, she sees the glow of Kravar's sword and shield.
Well, at least they still have a chance.

He draws in his breath for the final time before he opens his mouth and lets out a primal manly shout. He expects there to be some damage, but what happens is surprising. There is the sound of shattered gems and a demonic howl as the demons are ripped from this plane back to where they came from. Cesran gives a knowing, almost arrogant smile as he leans on his staff for a moment and he heads over towards the other two, "How bad is she?" He asks, "I have some potions if that will help."

"It can't be... I have guards stationed outside! The best guards that the abyss could offer me! You couldn't have bested them?!" He stands up and frantically looks around for a place to run...
<OOC> Benthus leaves it to the group to take him back to Alexandria. Whether dead or alive, it is your choice.

Stop crying. 3. Just tell the whole truth, please? It's been a long day for all of us. XD" <OOC> Benthus says, "1.) He is not lying as far as you know. 2.) He stops crying, but can't stop sniffling. 3.) He has told the truth. The children are in the hands of the demons. To which another group of adventurers were tasked of rescuing. That part is uncertain, and you have no idea if all the children got saved or not. This was a compartmentalized (is there such a word?) mission." <OOC> Godwyn says, "Yeah, pretty much." <OOC> Benthus says, "Anyone of you would like to roll a heal check please." GAME: Cesran rolls heal: (4)+2: 6 <OOC> Benthus says, "Alright... Cesran think that the man is normal." <OOC> Benthus says, "He is just having a bad day."
Kravar moves forward and then rests a heavy hand on Matthias' shoulder. The other hand holds the axe uncomfortably close to the villain's neck. "There's almost no point in slaying him now." The look he gives Matthias seems to imply that Kravar would still be more than willing to do it. "Let's take him back to Alexandria," he suggests. "To face justice."
GAME: Godwyn rolls Heal: (7)+10: 17 <OOC> Godwyn says, "Okay, better..."
Matthias whimpers like a little dog when Kravar places his big menacing hands around his neck. He visibly pales as the axe is brought close to his neck and, in fact, he faints.
<OOC> Benthus says, "Godwyn, you *think* that Matthias is mentally unstable. What reason it is that has unhinged him is something you guys may have to dig into. But that is another story for another time." <OOC> Benthus says, "Btw, there are several beautiful slave women still chained to his bed. They look spaced out, like having taken a lot of recreational drugs."
Godwyn takes in a breath and nods... just as the man faints. "Well... let's hope the other teams find them. We have what we came for. In the meantime... you're right. There's no point in killing him, because he's gone unhinged. I dare say some time in a cell may actually do him good, but perhaps I'll find out how far gone he is later. See if there's something to bring back." She ties his hands behind his back... and then looks around the room.
"Goddess, no... get them unchained!" Oh yes, he's definitely going to need some work done.
<OOC> Benthus says, "And with that, I close this plot. Thank you all for coming."
Cesran gives him a couple of shakes to see if he's faking it or if anything jingles. Like a secret key or money pouch. He looks at the women, "Let's at least help these women get out of here." He says as he looks to Kravar and Godwyn before he takes a deep breath as he briefly contemplates using his spell to throw him out a window. He finally nods, "Agreed...it's not our place to dole out justice." He grips his hand tighter so Matthias won't get away and then heads out.
