Just west of the Northern Highbridge and east of the arena, commerce
blooms. Noisy and bustling, most anything may be purchased here for a price.
Vendors from all cultures sell their wares from exotically colored carts, and
the smells of different nations and far-off city-states mix with local ones from
Alexandria and its riverbanks.

For all its commerce, visitors are advised to keep hold of their
purses. Even the merchants possess a certain, cunning look. Most are positioned
at carts or stalls as opposed to a formal storefront, with trade here being
mobile, and visiting from all parts of the world.

Though the quality of goods suffers here compared to Upper Alexandria,
the options are more diverse. Too, the oversight of the Watch is slightly less,
and during times events are held at the Arena, chaos abounds. After dark, the
square becomes a hangout for bards and other entrepreneurs whose business is
best conducted by night; the shadows at the edges of the square often contain
furtive figures engaging in their own brand of business.

A faint clicking can be heard, the sound of a staff touching on the cobblestones,
and the cloaked form on an egalrin can be seen. Seanait looks over at Mikilos as
she travels, then nods slightly towards the elf, "Interesting negotiation
technique."

Mikilos zaps, a bit of lingering static clinging to the wizard. Not harmful, but
perhaps suspriseing to one less familiar with magi. "No no, excuse me." Mikilos
appoligizes the the Trade Tongue, more of habit than any real reason. Glancing
to the laughing Xian, the elf frowns, still annoyed with himself. "Mountain.
Anyway, yes, pushy merchants are everywhere. It's been a long day. I shouldn't
have snapped at him like that."

"Perhaps not." Says Ferawyn in the trade tongue to Mikilos. "You could've
touched off something flammable." She then shakes her head a little as she turns
back to Mikilos and Remethaer.....and the cloaked Egalrin. "I was wondering who
touched off that lightning bolt over there. I don't think I've ever had trouble
with pushy merchants, but then again, I looks like....what most people
consider....poor."

Speaking of Merchants..

"Oi, Whaddya mean no refunds?!" a pitched voice shrieks across ever present
noise of the market, "..ya told me ya culd git yer hands on a worg an' this
one's not even a wulfhound!" At less than four feet tall the goblin has managed
to clear out a small pocket in the market for the creature is upon his tip toes
pounding the flat of his palm upon the merchant's stall.
The merchant seems to be a smug sort in leathers. He's holding what appears to
be an eight week old puppy though whether its a wwrg or not even a wolfhound
might be difficult for those with a less than discerning eye, "Non-refundable
deposit, gobber." He replies putting the critter back into a page, "Take him or
leave him."

"Yer a no gud thief s'what you are!" The goblin's long ears pull backwards and
he glares murderously at the fellow, "Yer gunna be givin' me back every silver
'er I'm gunna be the one shovin' ya inta the cage with that pup!" (Grub)

<OOC> Ferawyn snerks and can check.

<OOC> Grub says, "Not even a Wulfhound."
<OOC> Ferawyn knew it would end up like that on the second one. XD

<OOC> Ferawyn says, "can I tell what it is?"

<OOC> Grub says, "A large shepherd dog of mixed heritage."
<OOC> Ferawyn says, "a mutt. okie."

Mikilos chuckles softly. "Oh, no lightning. May have been impulsive, but not
quite that reckless. Though is nice to know the spark does give that
impression." Straighting up, the elf peers towards the canine inspired comotion,
more curious than concerned.

Turning her head towards the commotion, Ferawyn actually wanders over towards
the stall herself. She's taking a good look at the puppy herself and.....if she
can reach it, reaches a finger into the cage herself, trying to get the puppy to
open up.

Seanait tilts her head towards the puppy, then shrugs over towards Mikilos,
"Seems a bit unusual for a wizard. Forbearance. At least from what I've seen
around here." She chuckles a bit dryly, her eyes tracking around the marketplace.
"Nice to see it has not changed much."
With that, the scrabbles off the tip of his toes and pulls himself onto the
stall. The merchant, surprised by the little one's strength, is understandably
taken aback as he's now nose to nose with the little gobber, "Oi, that's rite!
If ya think yer gonna git one o'er on me dat easy ya got 'anothur thing.." He
begins wagging a long finger at the man but stops suddenly upon Ferawyn's
approach.

Grub's large eyes narrow viciously at the merchant and he turns, "Ya' like 'im
'eh?" The Gobber clears his throat, "Wuld make tha lady a reel nice pet." He
continues, "I've got 'im up fer sale /just now/."

The puppy is sociable. It approaches whoever sticks their fingers in its cage.
In this case it waddles towards Ferawyn and tries to examine her first
hesitantly with his nose and then playfully with his teeth.

As other's approach the gobber waves them closer, "Hullo folks, anyone lookin'
fer a puppy?" The merchant behind him scowls there.

Mikilos wanders closer along with the others, eyeing the puppy without real
intrest. He's more a cat person. "Yes, well, not all wizards are made alike.
Though I tend to find sorcerers more inclined towards reckless behavior. Though
perhaps it's just the ones I happen to know."

Ferawyn says, "Perhaps it's just the ones you know, Sir." She says to Mikilos as
the puppy nips at her fingers. She doesn't seem to mind it at all. "Yeah. You're
definitely a cutie, aren't you?" She says quite cutely to the puppy. "I'll take
the puppy........" Then her face turns serious. ".......and any other puppies
you happen to be holding.""

Seanait tilts her head, moving over towards the puppy as well, looking curiously
at Ferawyn, then back to the canine. She crouches a bit, looking around for
those possible other puppies, in case they were hiding somewhere. Or just in
other boxes.

The Gobber's ears slowly raise as Ferawyn compliments the canine. He clasps his
hands together and, when she decides to purchase the critter, he claps his hands
likely, "Well chosen, missus! A /steal/ at only five guld. Just fer you, I'm
frowin' in tha cage!"

The Merchant looks incredulous, "Blasted Gobber, you only paid four.."

"Indeed, ya herd him miss. I already paid him fer!" The Gobber gives a slow
shark-like grin there, "Want I shuld carry him somewhere fer yas?" He looks from
the cage to the ground and climbs off the stall, dismissing the inquiry about
further wares, "Hand him ta me now and I'll git him strait ta yer carriage." He
reaches upward and motions as if to say 'hand him here'.
There are, indeed, other animals about. Several puppies. Some kittens of varying
sizes. Some might actually be of quality breeds but there's nothing too exotic
by the look of it. Fresh out of Hippogriffs this one is.

Mikilos murmurs softly under his breath, and gestures, a small bit of something
not quite real flitting about the kittens cage, perfect for pouncing and
swatting. Okay, so maybe the wizard is a little easy to amuse...

Ferawyn says, "I don't need a cage." She says looking towards the canine and
just quietly opening the cage if she's able. If allowed, she does take the puppy
and smiles. "you're going to be a real smart one aren't you?" She says gently
petting the puppy and actually putting him on the ground near the Gobber. "He's
a mixed breed, for sure, and he might be the runt now, but he's going to be
better than any pure bred this man could have." She then looks to the person
keeping the little animals, almost glaring at him, before looking towards the
animals, quietly talking to each one, first in tradespeak, then in
Sildanyari.....then in sylvan....then in one other language that no one here,
but a select group would know at all...."

"Master Elf." The animal merchant says with a slight bow as he finally lets his
attention fall from the Goblin and into Mikilos, "Please, is there anything I
can show you." His eyes search the stall to find what had the Elf's attention,
"A fine familiar any of the beauties would make, if you don't mind me saying.
Keen on keeping the rodents in line too." He stoops and looks over the bunch of
them until he finds one that is a pure amber color with white feet. He brings it
up in his arms, "Nine weeks young. Care to hold him?"

Grub reaches upward and clasps the puppy assisting her in placing it on the
ground near him. The little critter waddles immediately towards the goblin who
gives a sharp sound meant for obedience. The puppy seems confused and then
continues on, "A mite head-strong if ya durn't mind my sayin'." The gobber adds
to her description of the dog. With long green fingers he absently pets the
dog's head in a manner that is not unkind and seems to keep it nearby for the
moment.

The stink-eye Ferawyn gives the merchant catches his eye. Especially as she
moves for the wares, "All were farm-raised, I assure you madame." He says hoping
to abate her displeasure. However as she begins speaking to the animals he might
look as if he's a touch concerned for what they might say back.
If nothing else, her attention towards the bunch seems to steadily get their
attention. Some curiously approach the edges of their enclosures others just
watch boredly.

Mikilos's ears perk up, eyeing Ferawyn. He might not speak every language, but
he's familiar with most of them. Smileing faintly at the merchant, he shakes his
head. "No no, thank you. The Academy has more than enough four legged members
running around. Or flying, or whatever."
Seanait shakes her head and shrugs a little, "Not precisely my thing, admittedly.
I am not one for having... a pet." She adjusts her cloak, glancing at Mikilos,
"Oh, you're at the Academy?"

Ferawyn says, "You'll want to pick some of these up, sir elf." She says up to
the much taller elf that is Mikilos. "I can even see a good deal of intelligence
in many of them, or the potential for a great deal of intelligence." She then
tilts her head a bit as she gently strokes one of the cats and looks it over
carefully. "you don't keep them in the cages all the time, do you?""
The Merchant bows whilst still holding the kitten, "Of course sir, of course."
He pulls it a bit closer to his chest while inspecting Ferawyn's movements for a
moment and looks as if he's about to make a second pitch to the Mikilos, to
supply some familiar food to the academy no doubt, but decides against it as it
could mean possibly annoying both the Wizard and the Egalrin.
An astute observer might catch some realization in his eye and then a sheepish
look to one of the caged birds, "If I can help, anyone - please let me know." He
offers aloud.

"Ya've durn quite enuff!" The Gobber pipes up rudely from his place tending the
puppy at the front of the stall.

The Merchant gives a shushing sound and moves to assist Ferawyn by placing his
kitten in with the others she's admiring, "No ma'am, not all the time. The
guards would have my head if I let them run loose behind the wall. I sell
animals for my respect of them if not for that I could turn more coin with
swords or shields.." He smiles at her there, "I once fancied myself.."
"AAACHOOO.." The gobber sneezes loudly there, inadvertently interrupting, and
then uses the puppy to wipe his long hooked nose.

Mikilos quirks a brow, nodding to Seanait. "Not at this exact moment, of course,
but yes, I'm a member of the Academy and College of Magic."

Ferawyn says, "You should take them out of the cages and place them in a single
cage......a much larger enclosure for them. That way they can play and be more
social than they are now. Both for the puppies and the kittens. The birds are a
different story. They should be allowed to fly every now and then so they get
proper exercise. They'll need a much larger enclosure than the puppies and
cats." She says as she clicks her tongue in something resembling bird noises to
the birds. Some of them actually go silent to listen."
Seanait blinks and looks at the birds, then suddenly chirps a few syllables at
the captive birds, then looks over to Mikilos, nodding once, "Of course. Not
right now. Though I did think you seemed somewhat familiar, when I first arrived
to this city."

"..." The Merchant peers over his stall at the goblin but is then reflecting on
Ferawyn again, "Yes, madame. They run together often there is just not much room
here, in the market, for such a thing. At least not to purchase the space for it
on the modest coin I turn.." He bows apologetically, "..but I recall you saying
that you were interested in more than the mutt you bought from the gobber..." He
says bringing the conversation full-circle.

The Gobber in now wiping his nose with his sleeve. He reaches to pet the dog
again, putting his hand in the snot that is matted within the dog's fur, and
makes a face. His long ears go back and he gives a quick look to Ferawyn, who
appears distracted, and quickly he begins to rid the dog of the evidence by
rubbing his sleeve briskly over its fur.

The dog seems to enjoy it.

Mikilos snorts softly at the goblins antics, but says nothing. Isn't his dog.

Ferawyn says, "I was making sure you were treating them well. Unless you were
willing to release them into the forest, I personally do not have any place to
take them. I, personally, do not have the coin to release them all, but I can
allow you to be an honest businessman with these animals, and I've seen people
come back more often to an honest businessman, than to a dishonest one." She
says giving a look to the merchant again. "And I know of people that will
actively suggest others to go to the same merchant if they prove themselves to
be kind and honest. What do you say?""

GAME: Grub rolls handle animal: (5)+7: 12

The Merchant listens to Ferawyn obviously eager for the prospect of unloading a
lot of his wares to a single customer. However as the conversation takes a
different direction there's a letdown to his gaze and then something else
entirely as the point of it washes over him, "Ah, yes, the gobber.." He seems to
consider that a moment, "..begging the lady's pardon but I had thought he merely
wanted a dog large enough to ride and you can't reason with /some creatures/."
The man's gaze shifts that way and then back, "I apologize to you for any
offense."

Grub has made a mess of the hair on the dog's back. The round little canine is
wagging his tale furiously and the Goblin is trying, with only moderate success,
at keeping the creature's zeal at bay with the use of snapping fingers and sharp
sounds, "Ya are a bit dum arn't'cha?" He retorts but does manage to keep the
puppy, who is probably a third his weight, from bowling him offer with its
enthusiasm.

"Missus!" He pipes up, "Yer dog has mussed 'imself mebbe I shuld take 'im ta yer
carriage now?"

Ferawyn raises an eyebrow at the goblin. "What's your name Gobber?" She says
before looking to the Merchant. "We'll still take the pup....with a bonus." She
says softly. "I shall be telling my fellows of your wares here, and how much
pride you have in taking care of them. I assure you, sire.....if you aren't
telling me the truth, they will know. But if you are, you shall be a well
respected man with those of my kind.....and that, sir, is worth more than it's
weight in gold." She then gives him a meaningful wink before turning to the
Gobber and petting the puppy.....not even caring about the snot on the back of
the pup.

Seanait tilts her head at the mention of 'some creatures', and looks sternly at
the merchant, "Some... creatures?" Her eyes narrow a bit, as her beak snaps with
a rather audible 'clack'.

The Goblin's wide eyes narrow a bit as the eyebrow is arched at him as if
momentarily unsure of her intent but her question causes him to nod earnestly,
"Grub, missus." He replies finally forcing the dog at bay.

The Merchant nods to the woman, "Thank you kindly, ma'am. Your kind are worth
its weight in goal, yes ma'am." Then the Egalrin snaps its beak and he bows, "No,
Master Egalrin, no insult was intended. I merely meant.." He looks to the goblin
as if to say 'you know, those creatures'.

Grub winces slightly as Ferawyn pets the pup but her lack of ire at
its...condition..seems to calm him. He gives a yellow toothed smile, "If ya'd
perfur ta walk'im yerself I'll leave ya to him missus. If ya be needin' mi ya
can find mi in da SurfWest district. Just ask fer Grub."

Seanait tilts her head, looking at the merchant as a bird might look at a
particularly plump worm, then hmphs, "True, I suppose you'd like one such as me
better in a giant birdcage, wouldn't you?" She narrows her eyes, her normally
soft voice sounding hard as nails, before she turns to the goblin, giving him a
slight nod as she seems to relax a bit, "Good evening to you."
From afar, Ferawyn smiles. "If you take a wolf, you don't need to take another
companion. it levels up on it's own.

Ferawyn looks back to the egalrin. "I don't like it any more than you do. If it
was up to me, I'd let them all out. But if I do that, I'd be depriving them of a
loving family. Even the birds." She says softly and sighs....

The Merchant would seem uncomfortable to those who are adept at reading human
behavior. He glances away from the Eraglin, "No, no, I don't want no trouble
Master Egalrin. Please forgive me."

The Goblins doesn't seem to mind the pretty girl patting him. He raises up on
his tip-toes so her hand's there a bit longer, "Yes missus." He agrees and
marvels at the winged Seanait for a moment, "..and ta yerself, birdbrain." He
quips with mischief and then sets off into the crowd. As small as he is its not
hard for someone to lose him in it.
