-=--=--=--=--=<* A14: Sage Orum's Plaza, University District *>-=--=--=--=--=-

Named after one of Alexandria's most learned (and perhaps addled) minds, the new University District of the city contains a number of entertainment spots as well as areas of culture and learning. Though many structures and sculptures can be found here, two buildings dominate the plaza with an air of friendly animosity--the grand buildings of the Society for Progressive Arcanists and the Artificer's Guild.

Poised on opposite sides of the central plaza, the two face one another like old misers, each uncertain as to what the other's up to, and pranks between students are a rule of thumb. A series of levies and fines exists should they get too far out of hand, though at times the results may be spectacular. Performers often make use of the great plaza by filling it with music, and rare is the visit without passing a performer's hat or three, five, or nine. Likewise, ramshackle shops selling every sort of magic bauble line the ways, all of varying (and often questionable) quality. A grand statue of Sage Orum overlooks it all, his expression slightly perplexed perhaps, at its mixture of grandeur, invention, glass-filled baubles, and chaos.

At the far end of the area, is the city library. From public records to research into the history of the city and the region itself, there is much one can learn at the city library. Many stories tall, the building towers up over well-lit, tightly-packed cobblestone streets.

In the distance, the Redridge Mountains rise overhead in all their glory. At their peaks, one can see the airships docking, landing, and flying off again under the banners of not only Alexandria but many great nations.

Tak has arrived.

Elycia has arrived.

Its almost noon, and many are off to find thier daily bread, or mead if that is thier preference. Over near the Arcanists building, Tak is seated on a step, talking to four young students, perhaps in thier middle teens, he is gesturing as he speaks. "No no, you have to picture it in your head, concentrate. Its best to watch others first though, otherwise its easier to see through, ok, now, try this one." He gestures and then speaks a few words, and a few steps up from him appears a woman, clad in almost transparent blue veils, and leaving little to the imagination. There is no sound of course, but the woman starts to dance, drawing the eye of the teenagers quite well. Tak grins "This is Esmerelda, I met her a year ago, by the gods that was a night." After the woman blows a kiss to the young men, she vanishes and Tak looks to the oldest. "Ok, now lets see what you can do. Remember, a woman has a certain walk to her, a movement that we men cannot imitate. You have to get that down right."

Selia snorts softly. "An' try ta 'ave a bit'o realism ta 'm. Dem moves weren't bad, but ain't nobody got dat much leg wit'out fallin over. And dem veil's weren't right. No proper fastners. Points fer style, though." the halfling nods with a small grin, her thick Charneese accent practically dripping off the words. Wait a second, when the heck did she get her, anyway? Sneaky little halfer!!

Tak turns, grinning at the halfling lady, "M'lady, thank you for the assistance, I always do forget those tiny details, we men are often distracted by other attributes." The oldest of the boys stands up, furrowing his brow. Tak speaks to him, "And like the lady said, there are problems, you make the chest too large and someone might wonder how she stays upright." The boy gestures and incants, and his attempt shows up, while the details are good, almost a perfect copy of what Tak had, when it moves its a little jerky. "See what I mean, a mental picture is easier when they stand still, but as soon as you start moving them, it gets harder. This is why its an ART!"

Quietly walking towards the small group, Elycia crosses her arms and looks towards Selia, then back up to the dancing guy and the one conducting this. She makes a bit of a face. "What's going on?"

Selia snorts again, and frowns. "Ain't art. Nay yet. Ain't sure the proper word for it. But art got's more to it." The tiny woman looks to Elycia and shrugs. "Ain't sure yet, but nay art."

Tak pats the oldest boy on the back as the illusionary woman vanishes. "Alright lads, go get some lunch, if you bring me back something, I'll tell you a few good stories..." Then he looks over at the Artifacers guild, and leans down to whisper. "Especially some that have some very good ideas for how to take care of your problem with that fellow across the street." He waves his hand dramatically and the teenagers laugh and start off together talking. He turns, bowing to the ladies that have become his audience. "Ladies, please excuse me, I was offering my wisdom to the younger generation." Of course, he doesnt really appear that much older than the kids honestly.

Elycia raises an eyebrow at that. "What wisdom is that?" She then looks up to the stage. "Illusions?" She then chuckles a bit more at that. "It's not my forte, I'll admit, but sometimes you need to view a real woman to get the look right."

Selia shrugs, stepping away from the shade of the planter where she'd been lurking. "Ain't sure iffen dat's wisdom, but I did na 'ear all of it." she frowns a moment. "Pretty sure illusions ain't wisdom. Sorta da opposite."

Tak chuckles "Actually, the core issue with illusions are the mind of the creator. Its like painting, there are those for whom it comes natural, that they don't think, they just do. Then there are those that study each tiny spec, and recreate it in detail. Both can create a masterpiece with time, but each must learn a different way. My wisdom is that of the past, I am a storyteller and I use what I learn to help others avoid the mistakes of history." He bows dramatically, "I am but a humble student and a teacher, for one must always be both in life."

Elycia says, "You don't look too much older than the ones you're teaching though." She says quietly. "Plus, some stories are sometimes larger than the people they're about." She then looks to Selia. "They can make a point though, I think. but testing combat spells would best be done in an Arena, or a testing ground where damage can be minimized.""

Selia frowns at Tak, but shrugs again, not sure yet what to make of him. To Elycia, she shakes her head. "Ain't all bad. But iffen yer life is on da line, like as not ya an't in no Arena. Best learnin's on da street."

Tak smiles "Ahh, now that is the secret, finding the gem of truth hidden amongst that which is designed to entertain. Take Oshkosk the flat, a brilliant young wizard, believed his magic could solve any problem. During a grand adventure with his friends he came across a giant in a ruined castle. The giant charged towards the party, and Oshkosh confidently stood there and cast as simple magic to solve the problem. He created a large area of slick oils, and the giant slipped right into the oil." He grins, "Of course, momentum being what it is, the giant slid right into Oshkosh and smashed him into the wall." He shakes his head sadly. "There is wisdom there." He turns slightly, his eyes widening at something. "Um..." he suddenly appears nervous. "You ladies must excuse me, perhaps another time!" He dashes off.

Tak has left.

Selia quirks a brow, frowning after Tak. "Strang bloke. Ain't sure wot 'is game is. Wot of you? Wot's got you out an' about?"

Elycia shrugs a bit. "Usually out about this time to take a walk. Can't stand staying inside of a stuffy building for too long." She says before offering her hand to Selia. "Elycia Windrunner."

Selia eyes the hand a moment before accepting it, her grip frim but quick. "Selia ShadowKin. Yer an outdoorsy type den, aye? City girl, meslef. Don't feel right wit'out walls around."

Tak has arrived.

Selia remains pretty much were she was, chatting with Elycia.

Tak has temporarily hidden himself behind some arcitechtural device, a column, statue, whatever it may be. He seems to be hiding from someone in the crowd today, though its hard to say exactly who. He seems to be peering around the corner right now, checking to see if the coast is clear.

Elycia shrugs a bit. "To each their own, I believe." She says softly. "Can't feel the wind inside of a building though, but that's me." She then looks around the statue and chuckles lightly. "He shares wisdom, and yet he's hiding."

Selia frowns. "Lotta wisdom in 'idin'. Rare bloke be killed by foe don't know 'e's there. Ain't always the best widom, mind ya. Though all dat, an' 'e's rubbish at it."

Tak slips out from behind his column, its his now, he claimed it. He smiles as he approaches the ladies again, "So sorry for that, I'm sure your all aware of how awkard it is to meet an ex right? Sometimes relationships go bad, husbands get involved, and then its just better if you not meet them again." He grins a bit.

Elycia chuckles a bit. 'If your ex has a husband, then wouldn't that be more of a problem for you, not for them?" She then shakes her head. "Thankfully, I have no exs."

Selia tsks. "Nay me. Bloke whines and bellars 'bout 'is broken 'eart, but iffen ya offer ta cut it out for 'im, 'e clears up right quick."

Tak gasps "I'm doing the fellow a favor! I'd hate to have his poor wife be left at home alone while he is in prison for murdering me." he reaches up to scratch his head. "That was what he said..." he nods a bit. "Yes, he definatly said he was going to murder me if I spoke to her again. So, I'm simply looking out for both of them, its only the right thing to do of course, why think of the poor children without a father!"

Elycia rolls her eyes. "Then don't talk to her again. Especially if she's still married to the guy. It's not like in the golden coast where one guy can have multiple wives."

Selia mehs. "Better iffen da one wife's got multiple guys. Men can't focus on but da one thing at a time. Most often nay even dat." She ponders a moment, shrugs, and begins stalking towards Tak. "Just one solution. I'll kill ya. Da husband will stay outta jail. You won't be tempted. An' I won't be bored. Win's all around." She's probably kidding. Probably.

Tak nods "Of course! This is why I concealed myself so expertly just moments ago. Truely though, this is not my fault, I had no idea she was married, I never saw the ring, I was just so enchanted by her big beautiful pair of..." he seems to stare off for a moment, then coughs and looks to the ladies, showing a minor bit of embarassment. "Eyes, yes, she had big beautiful eyes." He jumps back, as the halfling lass approaches with her threat "Wait! I'm scrawny and boney, I'll dull your blade, then you'll have to have it sharpened again, and that could take hours! Why waste your time with that!"

Selia continues her persuit. Fortunately, she has tiny halfling legs, so it's not too hard for a tallman to stay ahead of her, so long as he doesn't panic and trip over his own feet. "Magic blade, don't get dull. Now quit wigglin, dat just make it 'urt more." Voice of experience?

Tak continues to backpedal, hands out before him as if to keep you away, "Awww, come on now, how about I buy you a nice drink in the nearest tavern! Perhaps we could play a game of darts, that way you get to enjoy your pointy objects and I avoid being stabbed! Its a win-win!"

Elyciawatches as Tak runs from Selia amusedly. "Selia......stop." She says somewhat weakly before gesturing towards her, causing a bit of glitterdust to appear in the immediate area.

Selia frowns, eyeing Elycia, but she does stop. "Don't. 'ate dat stuff. Get's inta place ain't got no busniess being glittery."

Tak looks to Elycia with relief "Ohh thank you m'lady! Truely you have saved my life this day! How can I repay you for sparing me from a certain death!"

Elycia waves a hand and makes the dust disappear. 'First time I had to use that." She then chuckles before looking to Tak. "No more chasing girls unnecessarily." She says to Tak. "You'll find better women if you use your head and not your......well...you get the idea."

"Better ta git dem ta chase you, anyways." Selia blinks, and swiftly puts her knife away again. "...most times, anyways."

Tak nods his head emphatically, "Of course, no more unecessary chasing for me, I have seen the error of my ways. I need to find a woman like you!" he says as he looks to Elycia, "An enchantress who can dazzle with magic and her beauty!"

Elycia facepalms at that announcement. "Oh brother. We've got a womanizer here." She says before looking to Tak. "I'm no enchantress. I'm a woman who can electrocute you on the spot." She then raises an eyebrow.

Selia rolls her eyes, but smiles, moving back to hop up onto the backrest of a bench, seated in the shade of a small tree. "Killin' is still an option, iffen ya change yer mind."

Tak smiles, raising a hand to his chest "But I already feel electricity here, its like looking at you has given me a shock to my heart......." he pauses, frowning slightly. "Of course, you probably ment like real electricity yes? Lightning and such? Well....." he looks around, "I'm afraid that would not be good for my hair you know, stick up in all directions, so..." he steps back a bit. "I shall have to admire you from afar, yes, thats it...." he grins and winks as he bows. "Till we meet again m'lady!" Then he turns and starts away at a brisk walk.

Elycia chuckles and waves to Tak as he walks away. She then shakes her head and starts to continue her walk around the plaza.

Tak has left.

Selia snorts once more, but continues to smile, hopping down to head off to wherever it is she goes at times like this.
