  • Title: A Cavalier Attitude
  • Emitter: Aelwyn
  • Place: Quill's Repose, City Library
  • Summary: A not entirely well thought out delivery of food to a place where food is met with threat of exile from the place turns out for the better for Aelwyn, as he encounters Eztli, who he had been looking for for insight onto what it takes to become a cavalier. While unable to help him directly, they discuss various matters, and she agrees to help him in any way they can. can.

City Library, Morning

A sweet scent of fresh bread slowly litters into the area. Soft, freshly baked, with a garlic butter undoubtedly seeped amongst the cheese and ham; sprinkled with crispy roasted onion. One could nearly taste it seeped into sweet tea, or the black coffee.

It was a profitable delivery. Plenty of hungry students of knowledge at this hour - though once again, the person holding the crate with the sandwiches and drinks had found his match.

"Why cannot this one just take a look around?" Aelwyn asks. "This one will surely recognize them if this one sees them." He hoists up the box at the secretary behind the desk. "What if this one shared a sandwich?"

Heavily scented food? drinks? It was no small wonder that more than a few people were quick to at least poke their heads into the entry hall to the library. One such hungering soul was a small sith-makar, who took a few steps out into hall. "Some sort of travelling salesmen?" They wonder for a moment before the source is clear. "Oh, hey Aelwyn, what's with the food delivery? I thought they were pretty strict about allowing food in the library, is there some sort of conference going on?"

"Huh, but this one would not drop it on the books, they are wrapped-" Aelwyn replies to the secretary, about to lift one sandwich as demonstration. Hearing familiar voice though, he turns around on his step and then flashes his teeth. "Spellreader." He clicks his teeth, looking at Eztli for a moment. "Scribe?"

There's a sudden shake from his head and he steps away from the secretary towards the other sith-makar. "This one was actually hoping to run into her." A glance behind his back, and then he offers the sandwich. "Hungry? This one is supposed to deliver them to... students somewhere in here."

Leaning back on his foot, he clicks his teeth again, rumbling. "Reading anything interesting?"

"Please don't run into me, you're likely to bowl me over." Eztli snorts once. "Are you sure you're supposed to be offering it to someone for free if you came to deliver it for someone else though?"

The small makari glances back to one of the doors to the library, and shrugs, looking back to the dragoon again. "Well, I'm here, what's up Aelwyn? I'm reading some pretty interesting, but very dry books, few different things, but why were you looking for me?"

Aelwyn shrugs his shoulders, putting the sandwich back into the crate. He glances over his shoulder at the secretary still intently watching him, and then back towards Eztli. "If this one cannot deliver them, why let them go to waste?" He offers instead, before flashing his teeth with a flick of his tail. "Seems only practical to this one. And saves the return trip."

The draconian then twists his lips at Eztli, rumbling. "Why is one reading very dry books...?" He asks quietly, as if trying to taste the concept, before letting it slide. "Hmmh." He states, then glances around the library some more. Another step closer, another glance around as if to make sure, and then he looks at Eztli. Only somewhat smaller than him. "Has she read about cavaliers?" His orange eyes stare at her for a time. "Specifically, on how to become one?"

"We're you supposed to deliver them to someone in particular, or were you hoping to have them sold here?" Eztli wonders, keeping an eye on Aelwyn for some time. "You could deliver them to the Althean temple instead, they'd probably accept them easily, might pay you a bit for your trouble. Course, I wouldn't mind a sandwich or three, either."

The small makari taps one horn, and sighs. "Because a lot of informative books are as straightforward as possible in order to make sure information is as clear and non confusing as possible." She explains. "Cavaliers, though? I don't think I've read any books specifically about them, they pop up in a few historical texts I've seen at least. I only really know about dragon knights, but they're pretty distinct from the other knightly orders. Not really related the way those other ones are."

Aelwyn tilts his head, "Of course to someone in particular." He lifts up the crate. "To a particular group of students." Which to him, was probably about as particular as he was ever going to get. He clicks his teeth at the suggestions, rolling his shoulders. "Hmmh, could be a good idea." He then offers Eztli again a sandwich. "For the advice."

The draconian rumbles though, sounding first a little excited when dragon knights were mentioned - then a little disappointed. "So this one cannot become a dragon knight?" He lifts up his gaze at the ceiling. Well, worth a shot. Gaze returning to her. "This one met a cavalier here, a mighty one, but this one hasn't seen them in a while." The Dragoon also offers a cup of coffee, questioningly. "This city doesn't have its own?"

"Then why not just leave them here and they can get them on the way out?" Eztli asks, though she doesn't refuse a sandwich a second time. One bite, two, and it was quickly gone. "That was great, I was hungrier than I thought." The small makari sighs.

Though it was the sorceress' turn to look a bit crestfallen, and Eztli shakes her head. "No, they were a dragonier thing, and well, that's gone, they're gone, what is left doesn't have a good name anymore for various reasons. Pretty sure they were real insular before all that, anyways."

She takes a cup of coffee as well, and it too quickly disappears, even if she has to awkwardly tilt it into the side of her maw. "It's more of a myrrish thing, that area, not saying they're not around here, but Alexandria is different from those areas. Might find some around the temples since they work close with them, or the stables, since they've got to take care of their animals?"

Aelwyn quietly 'ahs', and then he moves around to pat Eztli on her shoulder. He then quietly offers her another sandwich.

"Tch, feels like a wasted opportunity." He lifts his hand up and slides it across his mane of quills, rumbling by himself. "Ah, no matter." He flashes his teeth. "This one will find one and become one." Because, it was going to be that straightforward. "Though if she learns anything more, this one would be very grateful." Tail flick.

"Thanks Aelwyn, I appreciate it a lot." Eztli sighs, taking the sandwich in one hand, and hugging the dragoon with one arm. "Maybe it was wasted opportunity, but there weren't a lot of them, dragons are well, rare, and those willing to work with non dragons in such a way, well, it's a small subset of an already small population, you know? And the gods only know how it is now."

"I'm sure you'd be able to manage if you put your mind to it, that's the nice thing about makari, isn't it? You've got a long, long life to do it. I'll let you know if I learn anything, and if I meet any, I'll point them your way, whichever way that might be."

Aelwyn's arm wraps around her too, giving her a squeeze. "Naturally." He clicks his teeth with a low rumble, looking at Eztli sideways. Still so much he didn't know. His lips spread to a grin then. "This one is certain he will be; and if nothing else, this one shall become of their own." Tail flick. "After this one learns more of them, of course."

Around this point though, there's some bustle as a group enters the hallway - and then voices call out. "Hey! There's our breakfast!" Aelwyn turns his head and then back towards Eztli. "This one thinks he found them. This one's gratitude again, and may she enjoy those... dry books of hers." He flashes his teeth as he starts to back away. "Come to TarRaCe soon, yes?"

"Give it some time, and also, give it some thought too, you know? You do have a tendency to go straight into things sometimes. Don't want to get attacked by the first dragon you meet, after all. But learning a proper code, things like that? It's a good start, no doubt."

Eztli catches the commotion, and chuckles a bit, giving Aelwyn one last hug before stepping aside.

The second sandwich is unwrapped, and disappears just as quickly as the first. "Sometimes learning isn't completely enjoyable, but what you learn is valuable, and good in it's own way you know?" Eztli shrugs. "I'll be around the Tarrace a bit more, see you there some time!"

And with that she waves, returning back into the library proper, once the wrappers were disposed of to avoid the ire of some librarian.

Aelwyn flashes his teeth at Eztli. "Of course this one will. Since when has this one rushed straight into the fire?" Another wide grin. "Learn well, Spellreader!" He turns around and faces the group with a tilt of his hip. "Here are the..."

"Hey! Where's my sandwich?" "And mine!" "Tch, but this was the order, maybe this one can offer something instead?..." And so the arguing echoes in the halls.
