  • Title: We wish you a Murdery Korsmas
  • Emitter: Cryosanthia
  • Characters: Cryosanthia, Merek, Durrankar, Sabina
  • Place: A04: Theatre District

  • Summary: Cryosanthia has been convinced by the Temple of Tarien that there is a holiday called Korsmas, and Korsmas carols are a thing. She is supplied with sheet music and sent out to raise money for Lady Sandiel's Troubled Orphanage for Troubled Orphans. She sets up in the Theatre district and is soon joined by Merek and Durrankar. Durrankar, the silver scaled sith'makar warden of Mictlan has been on a spiritual sabbatical in Am'shere. Cryosanthia admits she has also been doing some soul searching, though more locally, and with the help of his Cihuaa. He also explains, this is very likely a prank. The Whitescale agrees, but also is in the mood to sing, so she sets up her one sith'makar band using her cantrips to produce Ghost Sounds and Dancing lights. Her AnyGarment sleeves are also used to put small drums on her hips and castanets on her tail so she can shake, clatter and thump. They launch into songs, 'a One Khazdul Sleigh', 'Deck Kors Halls', 'We Wish you a Murdery Korsmas', and 'O come all ye crafters'. The songs overall are well received, although Murdery Korsmas seems more like it could be a shakedown and Cryosanthia cuts it short. She thanks all for their help and promises to meet with Durrankar to catch him up on the latest events.

While the area contains more than theatre, it is most known for its dueling play houses and established, theatrical families. Competition for talent, especially known actors and playwrights, is fierce. An example of these long-standing, yet well-entrenched feuds are the Flightwright and Flame's Hope--two theatres built within a hundred years of one another yet separated by more than ideology. Owned by opposing families, the various troupes have been unofficially "at war" for over a hundred years.

Ribbons in Ceinara's vibrant colors grace the mismatched and often run-down streets, attesting to the District's colorful and creative background. The buildings possess no single style. Though not the quality in Upper Alexandria, this District possesses a thoroughly bohemian spirit and style amid its contrasting landscapes.

Aside from several well-known theatres, artists and crafters of all sorts make their homes here, as much for company as cheap rent. Callers-out stand on street corners, announcing the latest play, with what's in production reflecting the tone of the times and often, current politics. Street musicians abound, playing instruments or, for more visual artists, offering portraits for a few coppers to silver. Present, too, are Muses and their ilk, whose blessings the houses and various artists compete for.

The very center of the district is home to an open stage, an area raised a few feet from street level and worn flat. Anyone may perform here, and many do, though it's often an area for musician's gatherings and general lounging.

-=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=--=-

The air is clear and crisp. Charcoal clouds blot out the stars in isolated patches, blown along by a cold wind from the west. That's above the city.

Down below on the streets, it's lively and warm. Festive lights are strung across the streets, around poles and trees, outlining windows and rooftops. Decorations of various sorts hang.

The artifice ones spark and occasionally catch fire, the more magical kind burn steadily.

The two Theaters, the Flightwright and the Hope Theatre have settled their feud for the season, calling a truce where neither provides any entertainment. Leaving it up to the random street buskers to perform.

A white scaled sith'makar in a velvet dress is setting up. Around her, never staying in one spot long enough to be considered beside, a smaller lizard child runs around in a puffy pink parka. There's a small cauldron on a tripod beside her, and a sign: 'For Lady Sandielle's Troubled Orphanage Foundation for Troubled Orphans'.

"Um... let me see..." She flips through the sheets.

Merek walks along in the theatre district while he takes the time to pull that scarf along his features while he watches the place. The cool wind which whips about in the night seems to keep the man's attention. Then he comes upon the white sith'makar along with that lizard, a nod along to the two of them, "Good afternoon."

A silver scaled sith-makar walks into the theater district and.....looks completely out of place in the area. He's simply looking around. Perhaps he doesn't know much about theater....at the moment anyways.

"Peassss." The little lizard person says, her pink nose sticking out of the hood of the parka. She holds out a collection plate towards Merek.

"Shhsss... not just yet Lily, we haven't started. Peace on your Nest, Merek." Page flip, page flip. "I have been assured by the Tarien Temple that Korsmas is a thing, and that Ceinarans and Tarientites get together and sing carols and ask for donations. They told me they'd be meeting here. I don't see the Travelling Dance Platform, but I guess I should start."

The whitescale looks at Merek, "What's a favourite Korsmas Karol?" There's the scent of another sith in the area, and light reflects off silver scales in the distance. Cryo raises a hand in a wave and greeting, then shows Merek the sheet music she's been given.

Merek places a few coins along into the plate anyway, to grin at the pink Lily. "Well, she's getting the practice in," he notes to Cryosanthia, then he smiles. "Ah, last week was my birthday. I was thinking about... Assisting in the donations. My favorite would probably be, The Khazdul Sleigh." He nods a bit while he takes a look at the sheet music, then he waves a little along to Durrankar, "Ah, good afternoon," he offers.

Merek does add in Draconic, "Ah, and peace upon your nest."

"Peace on your nest, Merek. Peace on your nest, Cryosanthia." Durrankar replies before looking more pointedly at Cryosanthia. "You do realize Tarien plays pranks on Kor for being so serious, right?" He then lets out a bit of steam from his nose. "I fear I do not know any carols....nor am I very good at singing..."

Cryosanthia coils her tail about, nodding and reviewing the protocols for the annual remembrance of being pushed out of one's nest-... no nest, just mother. She smile brightly, "Congratulations. It is good that you exist and manage to have done so for another year. Did you get your mother something nice?"

The whitescale dips her head towards the silverscale. "Durrankar! Good to see you. Yes, this one is aware. This one also knows many Korrites, and perhaps they should loosen up and I like to sing. You could assist. This one will make a beat and you can sway with it."

She finds the correct sheet music, with lyrics, and hands a copy to Merek and Durrankar, "The Khazdul Sleigh. Oh, well, I'm not familiar with this one either Merek, so you lead."

The small pink youngling attaches herself to Durrankar's leg. "Peace on your Nest." <draconic>

"I can probably find a gift for my mother, I appreciate it Cryosanthia," Merek then notes to the woman, while he takes a moment to think about it. "Yes, she's great at leading and all," he notes then to Durrankar. "Also, thank you for your assistance with the thing." The man begins to think to himself, while he watches Lily with the collection plate, then thinks up the song, "Alright, one Khazdul singing, two pulley-lever guns swinging, in an artifice sleigh, hey. Three marauders are a swinging."

"As long as you know, Cryosanthia." Durrankar says before looking to the youngling and placing a hand on it's head. "Peace on your nest, young one." he says staying back.....and keeping his staff on the other side of the young one.

"Over here Little Fang, that's good. Shaman Durrankar is the warden of Mictlan, he's very important." Cryo hisses to the pink one, who makes an 'ooo' noise and disengages, running over to her other side.

As the Seer starts singing her free hand goes through some graceful gestures. Lights trickle along her arm, and then Dancing Lights pulse overhead to the beat. Another flicker, and there are ghostly drums setting the beat for the singing.

Cryosanthia herself settles into a chorus style humming to accompany Merek. She also concentrates on her clothes, and some wooden clackers appear along her tail, and small drumps on her hips. With these she adds some real rhythm to magical one.

"Deck Kor's halls with boughs of sage, we've no need to keep the spirits away. Goblins rockin' around in the Korsmas light, Tarien playing tricks on them in the night!" Merek seems to be, well. He's singing, that's a thing. The man nods a bit to everyone while he keeps with Cryosanthia's playing.

Durrankar watches the little one scurry to Cryosanthia and he looks over his shoulder. "The coyote would likely enjoy your songs....as it would make him laugh." He then looks back to the singing duo and listens more.

And as if speaking of the coyote summons her, Sabina arrives dressed in a thick fur coat of dark sable and yet slippers on her feet. Her face is covered in her mithral mask and head covered with a fur cap. Lord Emp rides on her shoulder as normal. She has been following the sounds of singing and grins when she finds the source.

Cryosanthia waves! She is well into the hip-swaying, striking a double-beat on each drum before reversing. Her tail swishing makes more of a maraccas sound, a shhhhsk! Shhhsssk! "Look! There one is. Over here Sabina!"

Lily bolts off towards the Tarienite, her little booted feet slapping the ground. She shoves a collection plate towards Sabina, "Beansss! Peasssss! Copperrsss."

Merek waves a little to Sabina while he smiles, then he keeps on singing along with Cryosanthia with a nod along to Durrankar. "It hasn't snowed a single flurry, but Kors we're in a hurry, for we need a little music, need a little pranking," he takes his magical rod to twirl it while he begins to tap his feet and do a little jig, pointing to people, "Oh what fun it is to ride Reos' artifice sleigh!"

Durrankar lets out a hrf at the little one running for Sabina as she comes close. "Peace on your nest" he says as Sabina comes close.

The evening crowds pause and look as they pass. A few drop small coins in Cryo's cauldron. Most are out either shopping or in the Theater District to absorb the free entertainment. The ones seeking distraction drift their way.

Bina makes a 'surprised face' and then grins and squats to meet the charging Lily. The small one is given a quick hug and she digs a hand into her pocket and then pulls out a handfull of coppers which she slides into the plate that Lily holds. She then gets back to her feet and steps closer to the others. "Well! This looks like a merry group!"

Lily happily runs around with the collection plate, only once or twice losing coins from it and going back to pick them up. Cryo is keeping a watchful eye on her through her performance, maternally protective and ready to pounce, a wary scent about her that the silverscale could easily detect. Her hands keep flowing through the motions, casting cantrips that enhance the music, lights and sounds to make it seem there are more there than present than there are.

The whitescale flips pages, "Wait, are you on another song already?" There's a brief blip in the beat. She scrambles to smoothe it over.

Merek nods a bit while he begins to sing. Eventually, he would begin to relax, and nods along to Cryosanthia and Sabina, as well as to Lily and Durrankar. "That was nice, would you like to sing, Sabina?" the man asks as well.

"Sing? Me?" Sabina hmms softly. "I suppose I could but I can't promise you it will be pretty singing." ,she says with a grin. "Mind you I'm sure I don't know the words unless they're a tavern song or similar."

"It would be better than my singing. I think the last time I sang, Cihuaa grabbed my snout and clamped it shut....and said never to do that again." Durrankar says with a hrf. "it was supposed to be a serenade."

"Yes, we are! Join us!" Cryo calls to Sabina, hip-shaking to the beat. She hands out sheets to everyone, "It's okay, I've got music. See? I'll get this one, you can do the next." She dips her head towards Durrankar, "I'm sorry to hear that. Your Cihuaa has been a great guide for this one. Anyhow, I'm sure this carol is real, Baz da Ork was singing it. Ok, on three"

Tap... tap... tap...

"We wish you a murdery Korsmas,"
"We wish you a murdery Korsmas!"
"We wish you a murdery Korsmas and a happy kiling year."
"Good smitings we bring, to you and your kin."
"We wish you a murdery Korsmas and a happy kiling year!"

The drumbeats for this song are faster and more powerful, and all the dancing lights have switched to red, pulsing along with them. The whitescale directs, "okay, the chorus."

"Oooooh, bring us some blood pudding!"
"Oooooh, bring us some blood pudding!"
"Oooooh, bring us some blood pudding!"
"And bring it right here!"

This is followed with a big foot stomp. Little Fang rawrs and stomps with her. Coins jingle.

Durrankar can't help but rub his snout. "That explains a lot. An Oruch....."

Merek seems to think about it, "Well, interesting." He nods a bit then begins singing along, "And bring it right here!" The man walks along to dance with the party, and also places a bit of money into the plate of Lily's for the orphanage.

Sabina blinks at the lyrics and takes hold of the lyric sheets to read them. Behind her mask her brows raise and then she bursts into laughter. "Oh my! These are quit lively!" And with that same wide grin she sings along with the others. "And bring it right here!" She sways side to side as they move along and Lord Emp gives out a loud cry in response to the song.

Lily has a full plate now, so she runs over to the cauldron and dumps it in. She likes the beat of this song, and the dancing. Especially the stomping part. Cryo launches into the second part, which is a short refrain then a more threatening version of the chorus.

"Good smitings we bring, to you and your kin."
"We wish you a murdery Korsmas and a happy killing year."
"We won't go until we get some."
"We won't go until we get some."
"We won't go until we get some."
"So bring the blood right here."

Durrankar is also swaying back and forth, enjoying the music. His priority, however...is keeping an eye on the young one that is collecting coppers for the orphanage....

Sabina's enthusiastic, that is for certian. However her voice is.. not exactly pleasant while singing. At least not on this song. And she, with her bird and smile is about as threatening as a snowman. Or snowlucht for that matter. Finger-wiggle waving at people as they walk by isn't exactly helping either.

Lily darts about, making small hissing noises, and a high pitched participation, "Blood herrre!"

Cryosanthia glances at the others, "We're cutting this one a little short." She calls after her youngling "Little Fang. Over here, yesss. Blood for blood's sake isss bad, remember the talk?" <draconic>

"Anyone have a good idea for the next one?"

The crowds meanwhile have taken notice. Merek is the only one that seems actually threatening, enough that a few people avoid making eye contact and pick up their pace. More coins clink into Lily's plate, just to be sure. Everyone is grateful Korrites aren't singing.

Durrankar nods to Lily as well and speaks in Draconic. "Yesss. No blood. Coin in the city." He says as he looks towards the crowds. "At least they're not running because we're Sith'Makar.

GAME: Merek rolls perform/dance: (20)+11: 31

Merek laughs a little bit, then he begins to walk about the place, looking to see if people would be looking, then he makes a place to settle in and dance along to the music, which he does a lot better when compared with the singing.

The pink youngling comes trotting back and empties the plate into the cauldron. She nods to both Cryosanthia and Durrankar, "Thissss one remembers." <Draconic>

Cryo is waving a hand in the air, conducting the music, she brings it up, up, to a crescendo then drops the beat down to a simple four-four time. Another gesture and the dancing lights switch a single one, a vaguely humanoid reptilian form that dances around in the sky. She nods to the silverscale, "It is the Theater District, spectacle is more expected here. Also, this one is in the city alot. I expect I am familiar to some."

Lily bounds out again. Cryo passes out more carolling sheets, "try this one."

"Oh come all ye crafters.. builders and exploders.."
"Oh come ye, o come ye to Gooo...oblin towwwn."
"O Come and invent things, artifice and arcanic..."
"O come let us explode things,"
"O come let us explode things,"
"O come let us explode thiinnnggssss."
"All through the night."

Bina chases Lily about. Again not condusive to singing or intimidation but certianly entertaining. Seeing as she's chuckling even as she's "singing". If one could call it that. She does pause to admire Merek's dance and then turns to shuffle through the paper to find the new lyrics.

Merek nods a bit while he would begin to sing along, then he twirls while he begins to dance, the man seeming to keep with the music of which Cryosanthia looks to play. There's a shift of the scarf while he tries to draw people in.

Durrankar thumps his tail to the music......and drops a gold into the cauldron. the keen eyed would notice that Durrankar is not holding his staff while he's at the cauldron.....as it is glowing and standing on it's own....10 feet away.

Bina tries to sing along and tries to be serrious while doing so. That lasts only a few moments with this new song. Her mirth gets the better of her, though. Images of goblins running about in her head and things exploding making her giggle and then laugh.

This song gets a better reception. Everyone knows goblins, and those close to goblintown know the noise levels. It's also easier and more repetitive, encouraging the surrounding crowd to join in.

Lily hears a different sort of clink in the cauldron and turns to look at the Silverscale, she hisses happily in tradespeak, "Thanssss."

Cryo meanwhile, sings loudly and continues to direct phantom music and lights through to the end of the song. Once it's done, she finishes by firing some Snapdragon Fireworks into the air. It's a suitable climax to a song which is all about explosions, and lasts for a good couple minutes as she sends a whole flight out.

"Thank you everyone! Have a Murdery Korsmas and Sweet Obese Elf Eve!" Cryo claps overhead, encouraging the applause while she walks in a small circle. Spetacle over, she makes some clicking noises at Lily for her to come back. She speaks normally to her fellow carrollers, "Thanks for helping out, Merek, Sabina. It's great to see you again Durrankar. A lot's been happening in the city, I can update you later. This one needs to find a place to bed down tonight, it's too late to travel to Mictlan." Sabina pages:

Durrankar lets out a soft rumble from his throat. "I had to return to Am'shere for a while. It was a choice of faith...." he says letting out some steam. "....and I knew Mictlan was in good hands with Un'eth. But yess....tell me later. The little one must rest..."

Merek nods a bit, after all of the celebration looks to be finished, he does take a moment to pull his scarf up, while he places a few platinum into the cauldron. 100 of them, then he nods to Lily, "You did well in collecting." Then he smiles to Cryosanthia, "You're welcome, and it's nice to see you two," he adds to Sabina as well as Durrankar.

Sabina stops singing but not laghing as she spies a few in the croud that seem glad to see..er.. hear her stop. She rejoins the others and gently picks up Lily for another hug. "YYou were wonderful , Lily! So much running about! You're a natural! And Cryosanthia could likely teach us how to sing, you an I. And Merek could teach us to dance."

Lily makes a happy squeal and hugs sabina. "Yesssss."

"He could indeed," The whitescale takes the pink youngling from her Tarienite friend and sets her on her shoulders. "There's been a lot of crisi in faith. Un'eth has been great." She tells Durrankar, A quick look at her arms and the drums and clackers disappear. She retains the very form-fitting white velvet dress. She collects the carroling sheets, then the cauldron and tripod.

"This was a success, I think. Thank you all for the help." She grins with a wide open mouth, and her nose dipped, "We all should rest. Happy Obese Elf Eve!"

The crowd is thinning, it's getting late. Time for all to head home, and all have a good night.
