This time around it's not quite so simple. Chay definitely takes point at a number of places, staying up near the guide who is sort of looking sideways at the Sith-makar. A bit like saying, You're too observant for a lizard. But there is another nod of his head all the same. "Whelp... It could be lots of things is all. Means they probably are getting pushed from a different direction and so they might be trying to spread out toward the roads more, claim different territory."

The guide nods his head again and then moves them around some quicksand, continuing after another half hour or so, "Could be giralons or somethin'. Could be somethin' else. I don't know." He nods his head again, "Heard rumors though. Some flying thing that's been harassing folk." Another nod of his head and he continues onward. Granit manages to grab hold of Tirr before she walks straight into a snake, pulling her back just enough that she didn't meet it face-to-face. And Chay stopped Nasrin from stepping into something that looked suspiciously like quicksand, but the guide gave it a look and took a far wider birth around it than the last bit of quicksand.

"You would know more than uss," Chay is saying to the reticent guide. The sith-makar ducks his head as they move along. He grasps a sidelong trunk, and uses it to steady himself as they pass by softer ground. The wider berth is welcome; what would have happened had they stepped in the middle of it?

Charlotte is behind the group at this time. She'd been quiet all this time and had been following along the whole time. yup!

Nasrin avoids the... quick sand... by a narrow margin and watches her boots more carefully as she walks now. There is a lot to see and that is enough to keep her attention, eyes wandering over nearly everything that they pass. "If it's just some flying thing we could always offer to slay it and see what kind of reaction we get. If it's the Girallons, plural, options are a bit more complicated. Hopefullly they're in a talking mood."

GAME: Chay refreshes spells.

"You don't pay me to guess though." The guide says grudgingly as he continues to guide the group along, A glance out of the corner of his eye toward Chay, then the rest of you with a sort of grumbled noise, "'bout as observant as my better half in matters of the mind, it's what drew me." Another moment wher ehe just lets the noises of the jungle around them fill it. Uncomfortable silence anyone?

"Look, I'm just saying-" The Guide starts up again, "-that I don't want you runnin' off with any half baked ideas." He grimaces and seems to think that's the end of it. Of course Nasrin gets a grunting sort of comment back, perhaps agreeing with her (or at the least seeming to not think it's a bad idea).

"One agrees, sser," Chay says to Nasrin. He has used the form of address, male or female, throughout. It seems ingrained sometimes, used without half-thought. "If it iss possible to go around, we sshould conssider it. Wounds in the jungle tend to fesster, or get infected." He steps over a rock as he says so. The guide gets for once, a more honest look. That isn't the whole story, that look says. "It iss not as though our livess, and ssurvival are bound together," he says urbanely.

Charlotte looks to the side and makes a bit of a face. "we're being followed." She says quietly to everyone....making sure she isn't heard by the other party...

"It's not elves," Nasin adds. The redhead looks around and loosens her ax to keep it ready in case she needs to use it. Chay gets a nod, with Nasin apparently not caring if she is called ser by a confused lizard. "I think we're about to have a fight on our hands..." She bites her bottom lip. "About time."

"Ssa, ssa..." Chay says. He looses his bow and looks to the side of their path. He gestures that way. He starts to move then, that direction--and instead tilts his head to the side, like a hound listening. With a quick gesture, a scowl, he gestures instead towards Nasrin, who fades from sight. Then, the reptilian fades himself, as well. Or tries.

GAME: Charlotte rolls stealth: (18)+4: 22

The guide slips off the path as well, not really asking any questions just following the lead of the others. He looks toward Chay just in time to see Nasrin vanish and he raises an eyebrow. Appreciation it may seem with a little slow nod of his head.

GAME: Charlotte rolls perception: (15)+10: 25

"I don't know if Id be much good at hiding. Red hair, red armour, great big axe..." Nasrin looks down. Then she disappears from view. "...Well, that'll work." She moves quickly to find a suitable vantage to look over the rode- and run in, screaming wildly if necessary. the axe which also serves as her holy symbol is in hand.

GAME: Nasrin rolls perception: (9)+3: 12

Despite not being trained at stealth, Charlotte is decent at it. She makes her way behind a tree to not draw attention to herself...or try.

In the brush, Chay tilts his head to the side as though to get a better angle on the sound. ...he slows, evens his breathing and prepares a shot from the bow. In case. Just in case. Otherwise, he does not move.

Charlotte takes a deep breath, but then she looks at Chay.....and keeps near him. "Too loud to be elves....." She whispers.

GAME: Tirrynelth rolls stealth: (20)+1: 21

Everyone's like hiding from folks, so well Tirr does the same. Where she came from is anyone's guess, but the goofy book-wyrm is now somehow hiding her considerable bulk behind a tree... She also reaches out to try and poke at Chay at this point and ask "What's going on?"

Chay looks from one to the next, and ...he makes an exaggerated shrug in the softskin style. He doesn't dare say a word, doesn't dare open his mouth but to look towards where the sound is coming from--or had been reported as coming from.

The noises that only the few of you catch continue growing softer, and then even the most adept among you would have to strain to hear anything besides the usual background of the jungle. The guide is looking toward you all, waiting for the go-ahead again before he'll start moving as well.

After a while, Chay steps out. Cautious, cautious and watching the way of the road and the direction the sounds had vanished towards. He tilts his head to the side, still listening.

GAME: Granit rolls perception: (11)+18: 29

Granit is here, quiet, listening, his pointed ears pricked up as he tries to do as little as possible and be a passive receptor for sound. Finally, he gestures in a flat plane, describing a line perpendicular to their own path of travel. "Humans," he hisses, "or larger."

Charlotte says, "Likely larger. if they were elves, they'd have been a lot quieter...."

"Sssa," the reptilian agrees. He keeps his head tilted to the side, does Chay. After the sound fades, he begins to count. At one minute, he holds downwards a claw. Then two. Three. Five. ... "We might wait a while longer, to be ssure. There iss little ssense in jungle sscars, ssers. But in a moment, we might sstudy their trackss, and ssee what they were."

Granit nods quietly, listens some more, and confirms, "It's humans, a small group -- trying to be quiet." He quirks a little smile, "But we can look at the tracks to confirm."

Charlotte nods to Granit. "I think they were trying to follow us.

"We can wait to see if they double back in case we were being followed and then- yes. Check tracks. One of you can check tracks, I'm not going to be good at it." Nasrin nods shortly and then scans the tree.s "Hmm..."

So they waited, or so it seems. Eventually, Chay moves up with Charlotte and Granit, to look at the tracks and marks-left-behind. The sith-makar relaxes as he does, his focus on earth in front of them. On the bend of tree and brush, on the scuff of bootmark across rock. "They are keeping to the trail, ssers. Sso long as we follow our path, they might not cross us again. I susspect they expected uss to take the common route." He doesn't quite look at their guide. Not directly. But he does look. "They are humanoid, ssa. Ssix wearing boots, and three not. The three not are closse together and towardss the center."

Granit crouches down as he creeps through the jungle. Finally, he stops and points with the tip of his guisarme. "There. That looks like a group with prisoners, I suspect." His nostrils bell, and he looks like he wants to spit. "Or slavers."

Charlotte is with Chay and gestures to Chay to help. "Seems more like slavers to me. big fellows pushing along some that are barefoot....."

"If they do not double back. ...one would assume that iss what they are." Chay looks towards the trail. The hunter's expression shifts. "...and they have not. Sshould we hunt them, then?" he says. The sith-makar looks ready to. His muscles tense, just slightly.

"Slavers? I know we're on a different mission but I feel like starting a fight." Nasrin looks over the people gathered with cool azure eyes, settling her gaze briefly on each in turn. Chay gets a nod then. "Rust scales is in," she notes. "Anyone else?"

Charlotte says, "If they're slavers......I'm in."

Of course the only way to find out if they are slavers, or what, would be to catch up to them. Catching up to them means you can't surprise them.

Granit nods once, curtly. "I would hur-- hunt them." He keeps his voice very neutral, trying to tamp down the eagerness.

Dubtle has been ehre. HE ha also been quiet. He has also /also/ been collecting bugs. But not spiders. Someone already got those.

The guide looks between the group of you all, blinks, then stares the way that the other group went. "Whelp, if you wanna catch them we'll have to hustle. They got a head start on us and they know where they're going. Looks like they're heading back to the main road."

Chay stops just short of his tail hitting earth. He checks the arrows, to be sure they're present--and then sets off with the rest of them.

Granit nods once, curtly. "Then, let's move."

Charlotte and Granit start moving quickly into the trees, but it's not long before Charlotte is left behind with the rest of the party. Try as she might to get out further in front, the area is just difficult to navigate. A constant shifting of footing and a grasping of vines keeps her back.

Granit on the other hand gets out front and passes the group they're now following, staying far enough away that they can't hear him - which also means he can't see them. But he manages to get out front of them while the rest try to keep up.

The rest of you manage, except Dubtle who sounds a bit like a dying goat. Or perhaps a sheep. Something small that makes lots of noise with a panting of breath. One way or the other though, you all are getting close - time to plan your attack!

Granit runs like the ghosts of his past are chasing him. He runs and runs, then slows, and looks back. The other is gone. He waits for a moment, listening, then starts creeping in towards the line of approach.

Dubtle is running.

Unfortuantely, Dubtle is not GOOD at running. There's a lot of tripping and falling. Good thing there's no monster chasing him, right? Right?

Nasrin isn't bad at running by any means. She's just well-laden in steel and gear. So she really doesn't sprint, she jogs rapidly. It works, just not for hurrying.

You say, "Charlotte, you're going to be up soon, if you know what you're going to do?"

Granit steps out of the jungle, pausing just long enough to visually confirm that he's doing what he's doing to the people he thinks he's doing it to -- and he is. In front of him, he sees four humans, with three manacled elves marching between them. One leads, and three humans with crossbows are spread out around them. He snarls, and spits a particularly vile curse, then incants briefly, calling on Dana to give these rat bastards a big hug from him (paraphrased). Surprisingly, the vines and branches of the jungle comply, coming to life with startling alacrity, wrapping themselves around limbs and torso in a disturbingly broad area.

One man that's not grabbed by the vines moves out of them and lowers his crossbow - shooting and in the distance you hear a startled bird as it goes far wide and into... somewhere off in the jungle.

The other man not grabbed by them moves out as well before starting a fast chant and then extending a finger toward Granit with a jolt out of something like a green arrow that slams in - burning through his armor to his skin as it pierces. Yay... Casters.

Tirr blinks, she's now caught up in a fight after well just now having caught up with everyone. She frowns and stays back, trying to be a rather unobtrusive and all. She casts mage armor, just in case as she looks around curiously, waiting for a good time to start unleashing spells.

The axe hasn't stopped glowing yet. There's blood running down it, but somehow the blood pales in comparison to the glow of Nasrin's weapon. "Kor will be pleased," she states in a calm voice that somehow carries over the din. "But that will not save you."

Nasrin plants a foot and twists to face the man who was just firing upon Tirrynelth. She lowers her axe slightly. Then she breaks into a run. She doesn't acctually hit her foe with her wepaon first. Nasrin trusts in her crimson armour to protect her from any defense the hapless crossbowman can manage and literally pounds into him with her shoulder, throwing the man upward and brings him back down with the swing of her blade. Nasrin is violent, yes. Committed. Even strong. But she's never been considered "large". At 5'5" she's the shortest in any room of muscular Korite warriors but today? This changes. Nasrin exults as she grows to her tremendous size, towering more than eight feet tall with an axe near the size of a normal person. Then comes the roar. It's not a shout any longer, just a wordless ululation of utter violence. And then the last crossbowman is struck and simply ceases to exist in a recognizable sense. He hadn't signed up to be charged by a troll-sized redheaded stepchild of the temple of Kor.

The Sylvanori that are manacled and used to be in the entangled ground stand there as they watch the fight. As it completes they look toward the group of adventurers that just freed them. They speak a dialect that sounds more primal than the usual elvish language, probably owing to their tribe-like existence. "Who are you? Are you here just to make slaves of us too?" <sylvan>

Tirr blinks at the person speaking Sylvan and peers at them and then shrugs.. "Nooo I think we just well killed all the slavers... Least this group?", yes she's speaking Sylvan, as if she were kinda born to it. That or she's just good at linguistics. She says and rubs at the back of her neck now as she looks to the Sylvan person "Are you guys allright?" She asks curiously.
