  • Summary: The lost temple of Eluna stands revealed, its grounds consecreated, and the the exterior secured. Now all that's left is to begin its exploration.


They have a moment.

.. but just a moment. With the spirits last words lingering their thoughts, no doubt, the choice had to be made. Depart and organize help with the assistance of Alexandria and the Mythwood, putting their union to the test and giving a proto-wizard of some kind a head start on his preparations, or to forge ahead into his lair.

The latter choice has been made. All that remains now is to call for help. Dust and small shards from the shattered, disintegrating opaline golem continue to break down rapidly and further deteriorate, with the steps ahead now open to you. Presumably, he must be that-a-way.

GAME: Harkashan casts Miracle. Caster Level: 17 DC: 28

Huff. "So we are dealing with a maddened Lich of sorts." Harkashan rumbles and glances at the rest of the group. Some of those here could handle that, but many of them here are tired already from the battles. But if they wait too long, they give a sorcerous sort the ability to prepare.

And the only thing worse than a spellcaster, is a well prepared spellcaster.

"We will go forward, but we will be getting some quicker assistance than going out there and organizing anything." He remarks, as he lays his hands together and closes them before him. In that very moment, a blindingpale white light forms like a pillar on Harkashan's position, as he reaches out. Not with his voice, but with his feelings.

Through his God, through the ties that connect him to the many Adventurers he's met along the road. Through the power that can cause the world to tremble and reality to sway. It is not a 'demand' of reality however. It is a prayer, a deep and wanting prayer. One that sends a pale light to surround people all around the world.

"Please... allies... heed me. A grave threat stands before us. A Lich of great power that threatens these lands. Please... if you can hear me, speak the words, echo my wish to join me, aid us... the Deathsinging Dragon will guide the way."

Bryn watches the remnants of the golem fall apart to dust with a sigh; not that she wants it stillrunning around with its colorful shell and demony filling, but ... a souvenir might have been nice? "So..." she eyes the stairs up, ".. yeah, don' wanna let'im get ready fer guests 'n all." The she looks around to the others, eye closing briefly at Harkashan's blinding flash of light.

"But a breather's good. 'N s'more help." Not that she looks like she's going to let petty things like demons, golems, and liches (oh my!) dampen her enthuisasm.

With the spirit leaving, and leaving them with rather concerning news, Eztli was left with a rather grave expression. "No, having a lich ready to kill us all isn't a great idea to be honest." The sorceress sighs. "And, I'm hesistant to get the army outside involved. I'd rather not give a lich more potential... I don't want them getting harmed."

"But I'm a bit exhausted, so the help is welcome still." She adds with no small bit of wonder. "Nice to have the gods listening to a request like that."

It seems the decision has been made to fight, but Rune has no real power in order to reach out beyond those close by. Instead, she focuses on what she can do.

Looking over those gathered, she pulls a ring off of one finger and walks over to Bryn. "I think you'll need this more than me." She offers the platinum band out to her, then gives a nod to Harkashan. "It'll help him keep you protected in a fight."

Then, she steps back, checking her gear and taking a breath, steadying herself as she pulls out a pair of wands which she will need just before they face off against the lich.

Harkashan's call goes where it should, paired with lucky happenstance. Cor'lana has been involved with the spire effort here and there. Since she's completed her work involving the Unloved King, she's been dealing with quieter matters that have involved more subtlety... As well as her non-adventuring work and hobbies. It just so happens she'd been in the area of the Felwood today when she hears the call.

Her violet eyes widen as she looks around. "Anyone who's able and willing--take my hands and I will get us _there_," Cor'lana says solemnly. "Quickly! We are not going to waste a single moment when it comes to a lord among the undead!" She murmurs the beginnings of a teleportation spell to take her and her newly-scooped up allies to their destination.

Carver digs a pinky into her ear. She does it again with more obvious irritation at the buzzing, until the pitch mellows and is replaced by a voice she recognizes but cannot place. Huh, what? Who is rich? Whassit 'Deathsinging Dragon'? So many questions left unanswered in the void that is filled with another's voice.

She squints at Ravenstongue, with low burdensome suspicion. Her free hand slowly lifts and extends forward, like a child showing a mother a wound. "-Why- do you need me han'? Wait, are you about to do that stupid teleporting bol-" Bloop.

Felwood. Felwood again - Aelwyn was not in habit of spending too much time around the woods, and this time he had been delayed in drudging back to those cursed woods, only now unpacking his gear. Ah, to settle down in the nearest fire - he suddenly and instantly raises his head. A moment later he is running towards Cor'Lana.

"No time to explain," The Dragoon says to Carver and pushes her forward towards their - he actually had no idea what was happening, but handholding in a case of an emergency can never be wrong.

GAME: Ravenstongue casts Greater Teleport. Caster Level: 20 DC: 29

One teleport later and Cor'lana, Aelwyn, and Carver are with Harkashan, Rune, Bryn, and Eztli. Cor'lana offers an apologetic look to Carver in particular. "Yes, stupid teleporting thing. I'm sorry; I should have given more heads-up. If I'd brought Pothy with me, I'd offer you to let him paint his feathers with your sick." She's gotten used to the sensation. Which is kind of worrying, really, but plane shifting to and from Quelynos does that to a girl.

"So, what's the situation and the plan?" Cor'lana says, looking at the group. "I have to warn that, while I do have a rod that allows me to enchant the undead, it's only applicable for three spells. Anything after that, I'm going to have to get creative or use my blood pact for a fourth instance, but I'd rather save that as an ace-in-the-hole if I get a particularly bright idea in my... metaphorical bonnet." Cor'lana does not do bonnets.

"It seems my prayers are answered." Ravenstongue arrives, alongside Aelwyn and Carver. He tentatively recognizes the latter, but is more familiar with the first two. "Hrrrm... I had hoped the Deathsinging Dragon would send more. But she must have decided that this is more than enough." He rumbles softly.

"You are within the Tower of Eluna within the Felwood. A Lich is currently using all the moon-energy that it has been gathering throughout the centuries to empower himself to self-perceived God-status." Harkashan explains. "So we do not have a lot of time. They used to be one of those that defended this place, but upon losing their loved one during the defense against the Demons of the Demon Wars - it seems he's gone mad. Time here is..." A handmotion. "Relative."

He then motions his hand. "The foe lies that way. We know he's not yet /fully/ prepared, but this is a powerful caster." He then nods to Rune and casts a spell upon Bryn, taking some of her suffering upon himself. "We have exhausted many of our own spells in clearing this place of dangers. But we do not wish to delay and give the enemy more time to prepare." He then adds.

His head then turns to Maeva. "Lady Meava, if you would lead us forward."

"I'm not sure which way to go aside from up," replies the bell-clad elven woman with the silver hair. She stares at the spiral steps leading up inot the center spire proper.

Teleportation is no big deal to Maeva, it seems, but she does greet the arrivals warmly. She moves towards the steps, staring at the first before laying a foot on it. A chime plays -- but dischordant and out of synch from the other spires one might have experineced.

By the time that the reinforcements arrive, Rune has scuffed a small rut back and forth in the floor. The poor cleaning enchantments are going to have a field day with it, later. There is a look of some relief at familiar faces making an appearance.

When asked about what they are dealing with, Rune shifts her weight, tapping the pair of wands against her opposite forearm, more out of nervous habit than out of anything else. "So... all those towers people fought to free and cleanse out here? Some asshole is trying to use them as his own personal power-source to make him a god."

The rogue pauses, "Which, sounds to me like he needs a good dose of reality introduced to him. Just... be careful, as he's likely already tapping into the power here, which makes his strength a bit of an unknown..." She pauses, "Oh, and there's likely to be demons, too."

It seemed that people had arrived quicker than expected. Eztli jumped a bit with the arrivals, lingering a bit longer on Carver with a bit of surprise, and no small amount of concern. "Good to see you Carver. I'd give you a hug, but, we've been through a lot and I haven't had a chance to clean up. Might be poisonous." She greets, gesturing to the quicksilver soaked robes.

"Good to have you too, Aelwyn, and miss Cor'lana. the others can fill you in, but, yeah. We're dealing with something seriously evil here, and it needs to die, now."

Carver yanks her hand free, but can't use it to wave or much of anything at all. Instead, it holds back the storm of ale and sausage as she races behind the nearest cover. That pillar, a monument of religious importance? Who knows. There is likely no part of this temple that could not be considered sacred.

What is unholy are the stomach to mouth noises that come from behind it where the ranger fled. She'll catch up soon.

There is a lot of dissipating opal shards alongside a gap in the floor leading to a floor beneath this one -- a basin of quicksilver beneath you all. Looks like where Eztli got soaked, as well asthe others.

Maeva pauses, then takes another step. Again, discord, mixed with the melodic tones of Carver's purging.

The teleportation sequence did leave Aelwyn feel off, but the less one dwelled upon the unnatural the easier stepping forward was. "Tch, this one is more than enough, Lava. One can ask anyone." The draconian replies with a flash of his teeth and neatly swings the glaive up and around his shoulder. "And this one fully _expects_ that the plan is fire."

The ruddy sith-makar listens to the explanation, twisting his lips. The draconian's eyes turn towards the rest of the party, eyeing up their condition. Pointedly ignores the sounds coming from Carver's direction. The mention of demons makes him narrow his pupils. "Hnnh. It is not the kind of warmth this one was looking for, but a fight to last a lifetime shall serve just as well." He pulls down his glaive and slides his hand across the blade, summoning forth the fire. "Shall we?"

GAME: Eztli casts Prestidigitation. Caster Level: 13 DC: 16

"Well, not down there. I don't believe." Harkashan rumbles, before stepping over to Aelwyn and swatting his tail at his. "Always good to see you, Dragoon." He rumbles. The Sith-makar then turns and considers Maeva, who has lost her connection to the creator of this very tower.

"You must still be feeling disoriented from taking in Her spirit."

The Sith-makar then takes in a deep breath, and out again. "This way." And begins to lead in Maeva's stead.

Cor'lana doesn't like the look of that quicksilver basin, so she goes to follow along with Maeva. "Oh, probably demons. It is the Felwood," Lana agrees with Rune, offering a smile to the rest of the group--Eztli, Harkashan, Bryn, and Silmeria. She doesn't know all of them, but no better time to get to know someone than now. "Lady Meava, would it help any if I cast a haste spell onto everyone? So we can climb all the quicker? Err, once poor Carver's stomach is settled?" The spell of 'make thing go fast' is not a great combination when someone's declaring their lunch a 'return to sender' deal.

Maeva does indeed seem to be struggling. When Harkashan takes her hand, she all but loses her balance again.

Seems like she's not going to be much use going forward at the moment. Unsteady as she is.

Bryn blinks again, this time in surprise at Rune rather than the light. She looks down at the ring, back up to Rune, over to Harkashan, and back. "Wow! Uhh.. thanks!" She accepts it, if more than a little awkwardly. "Ain't used to folks givin me nothin. Not like this anyways."

She puts it on a finger, then she winks at Rune. "'N don'tcha worry none; I won't hit on yer man." She saw what happened to the golem for doing that.

And then the heroes are Legion! Well, there's more help, at least. She adds in her own two coppers on the trying-to-be-a-god-lich with a new look to Rune. "We'll make introductions. Upside 'is skull. Hard."

"I, shit, that doesn't sound too good." Eztli sighs, waving one hand over their clothes and causing the majority of the silver metallic liquid to vanish. "I know it's a lich with delusions of godhood, but, I'm gonna make sure she's okay. Someone's gotta hold her hair back, y'know?" She say before quickly heading off behind the pillar to help.

A quirk of the lips follows as Rune inclines her head to Cor'lana. "Wouldn't be a trip to this place without them." Sometimes you have to find amusement in a dark situation, otherwise it would be far more dire.

She chuckles, doing a quick flourish of her two spell wands and then tucks them back away again, reaching for her short blades, instead. "Wouldn't begrudge you if you did. He's hot. In more ways than one." She winks right back, wiggles her nose towards the lava-scaled Makari.

Then, with a nod, she looks to the casters. "Ready when you are. Let's do this..."

Cor'lana murmurs a handful of invocations that will likely be useful in aiding her in the effort to breach the chamber. She sighs once they fall off of her lips and have enveloped her in their magic, a shimmer of magic fading on and off her.

"Okay," she says. "I'm ready. Let's go." Cor'lana offers everyone a nice smile like they aren't about to go dancing with someone who wants to try and put himself into the role of a god. "Now and into the dawn to greet us when we're out."

Carver is coming out from behind the pillar, just as Eztli is coming to help. Which is certainly a relief for both parties. She waves off the concern, washing what taste remains with whatever it is she keeps in her wineskin. "S'fine, hones'. Jus' don't bring it up." Really, don't.

She does not have any grand enchantments to put on herself. Instead, she tucks her drink away, looking past Eztli to where everyone is gathering. "Righ'. Whatever it is behind there."

Aelwyn flickers his tongue at Harkashan from the tail slap. "And here this one, a firm and hot glaive for the party to depend upon." before he steps forth. He had nothing fancy to offer to the party, beyond his presence. Sometimes his blade also cuts into people. "A shame, this one would enjoy the competition, Rope!" He cheerfully calls out to Bryn and Rune in passing, before double making sure everything he had loosened was in fact, tightly secured. "Did she already use all of her fire, Spelldancer?" He then asks from Eztli.

Eztli slows down to a halt as Carver returns. "Noted. No talking or jokes. As long as you're okay." The small sorceress shrugs before turning back to the group, and down their chosen path. "Don't worry, I'm not dead weight yet, hopefully. Still have enough magic in me to burn things, but, I'm a bit more limited in what I can do. And I'm making sure we've still got a way to get out of here if we need it suddenly. Doesn't hurt to have a fallback even when Hark and now an archmage is here."

Maeva is surely disoriented. The music was calling to her, and she says as much. Ancient elven spirit possessing her did a number on her to be sure.

As you move on with the guidance and direction offered by said spirit, you move deeper into the complex and finally reach a pair of heavy, double doors of solid, ancient and treated oak. Floral designs mark its exterior, and all you need but do is push them open.

As you do, the ominous and sacred silence of this place, where none have walked for seeming centuries, is disturbed by the groan-creak-crack of the doorse being opened. There's really no means to avoid the noise when unsealing the chamber.

Before you lays the heart of this place. Silver light washes over you immedately, allowing you to bathe in captured and refracted moonlight and energy. You can feel the suffusion of mana here, a palpable sense of calming power, a sacred tranquility that can not be ignored.

At the center of the room is one singular enormous piece of crystal. Held in place by mix of black, starmetal chain and silvery mithral ones, it seems to be pulling against each of them simultaneously.

It is as pure a source of power as likely any of you have seen.

Above it is a circular hole in the ceiling from which a great beam of light spills out into the chamber, the source of the illumination, and along all the walls at regular intervals are additional mirrors, reflecting yet more of the captured light on to the center. A dazzling array of visible light striking the mirrors and then being reflected back on to the center crystal, the purity of Eluna shining upon this one place.

Beneath the crystal, however, is a single skeleton. Unmoving. Dusty and alone, undisturbed for centuries. A blade sits upon its exposed ribcage, one hand clutching the hilt, while the other remains outstretched towards the crystal, as if reaching for it. Who knows how long these mortal remains have waited. There is no immediate attack, no rampaging lich.

Just silence, beauty, and death.

As Harkashan aids in pushing open the great gates to this once hallowed ground, he winces at the loud but expected creaks. The magics he has left are cast to protect his allies. Some of his spells remain active, but he has exhausted so much of it. Especially after using some of it to contact people from beyond the veil and drawing them here directly -- rather than making them taking the long way around.

There is exhaustion playing over his expression at this point, even as they open the way to a beautiful and almost serene place. Were it not for the Skeleton holding that single blade. Once a protector... it certainly doesn't look like what had been described to them in the warning given to them.

But he has no reason to distrust it, so he moves forward. One careful step after another, blade drawn, buckler up, ready for anything.

"Lady Ravenstongue, what do your eyes see?" He inquires, knowing that her gaze is a rather special one.

GAME: Ravenstongue casts True Seeing. Caster Level: 20 DC: 27

Bryn is ready for... something? The awesome presence of the ginormous crystal and pure light is definitely something. Ok, she was more ready for the fighting kind of something. After helping push open the doors, her grip is quick and firm back on her weapon. But... everything's back to quiet again?

The oruchess doesn't speak up until after Harkashan, though, voicing her own doubts. "Uh... maybe he botched it 'n fried hisself?" That could explain alot... and make stopping the thing a teeny bit easier, too.

At Harkashan's ask, Cor'lana shakes her head. "But I can try and find out." She focuses her magic, murmuring an incantation that makes her eyes glow blue. She looks, scanning her eyes around the room. "This place is... ancient. It's powerful. Absolutely drenched... in..."

Lana looks at the skeleton. "It's _aware_," she breaths out. It's all she manages before she suddenly falters, looking woozy and pale as she nearly almost falls to her feet. With one gasp she says, "It tried to claw my soul away. Just by... knowing I exist. By me perceiving it, it's aware of... me." She takes a harsh breath. "We need to be careful. It will tear your soul away if you perceive it!"

Another heartbeat as Cor'lana shakes her head, looking a little fearful. "We are in _grave_ danger," she says... right as the skeleton on the ground begins to draw everything in to itself.

It is disturbed.

Disturbed by your presence. Disturbed by your nattering. Disturbed by Ravenstongue's resistance to it more than anything else. Ther's a small clatter from the center of the chamber where the skeleton lays, its sword slipping from its grasp as the skull tears free from the neck and spine. It hovers up swiftly into the crystal in a blinding flash of light. And then the room shakes. Shards of glass tear free from the mirrors, the light bends and disjoints, opening wide raw weeping holes in your vision which sweet oblivion lays behind.

In the floor, fiery gaps split open. Doorways. Not to the hells, but to the place where the demons that were bound in defeat here were placed. Things begin to crawl out. Skittering things and their larger shadows, terrors unseen since the days of the demon wars, surely.

As the light fades, the skull hovers above the crystal. Its empty eye sockets are pointed your way, a pool of blackness marked by silvery pinpoints of light within, an eternity unto itself.

Creatures spill into the room. Their shadows seem greater than they -- the skittering things from which they eminate. With as much light as there is in the room, they seem to cast them anyway. They weave webs of shadow together, building into something greate together. Connecting the strands of their being.

"Whelp," that answers that, though Bryn leaves that part unsaid. "Guess we're kickin some lich arse afterall." Or the other end, since that's what tears off, floats up, and seems to be the important part. It's always best to get riled up for arse-kickin, so she begins to a belt out,

"Heard tellofa lich, wants ta be a god.

Le's take the bony bitch, 'n smash 'im inna ..er.. nod!"

Cor'lana's hands have a light tremble as she sees the darkness before her, but she has escaped certain death before, and she will escape it again. Her eyes burn bright as she says, "I have a small wish to ward myself from death." She is no cleric; the spell is ordinarily not one a sorcerer can learn, but with a wish big or small, some miracles can be worked in the world.

Magic shimmers over her, and she feels some of the feeling of 'lesser' fall away. It hasn't been chased away. That will require time and for Harkashan to cure her. It's been suppressed, however, and that's enough for Cor'lana to smile a little, murmuring a quick incantation that leaps off her lips and tongue like lightning. All of her allies and her own self are charged with quickening magic, expediting movements and making their weapon strikes a little more fearsome. "Go!" she says.

Around the skull, its own bones begin to draw up into the air around it, swirling rapidly in an obscuring cloud of energy, as more things are drawn towards it. Dust. Bits of onyx begin to filter in, more and more appearing to grow here and there. On the walls. On the ground in sudden burst s. Along side the mirrors.

So much of this gemstone just suddenly *appearing*.

Well, at least there was enough of a warning before trying to figure out what was going on. But that didn't change the fact of how dangerous this situation was.

"Damned skeleton is probably pretty resistant to magic." The sorceress grumbles, weaving a spell quickly that causes the small makari to burst into flames, leaving a large, but still relatively small brass dragon where they were standing a moment ago.

Carver is not religious, but goosebump dance down her arm in this room all the same. It is hard to ignore the principled existence of divine in a room so saturated with it that it glows. The horror quickly overwhelm the awe as things sprout from shadow and the Lich's strained reach for divinity threatens to sweep them aside.

She sidesteps to clear her line of fire, trusting her aim but wary about the actual effectiveness of the simple construction of wood and steel could hope to accomplish in a battle for the fate of the moon.

It is not the surroundings that get to the Dragoon, but the quiet. Stillness. Death. Aelwyn was still too lustrous to die.

"Tch, one were-" The ruddy sith-makar was about to say in - before everything seems to fall apart into madness. It could be a moment to fear and turn - but the Dragoon shuns that feeling away with motion. "Now this is a stage-!" He exclaims, stepping forward with his arms and glaive held high. "... though this one expects the play to be a tragedy." He concludes as he lowers the blade of his polearm to the ground. There was a weaving motion to his movement, as his body sinuously sways to an unheard rhythm, eyes darting about the room.

"Don't worry, I have the rest of them." Harkashan calls out to Ravenstongue as he moves forward. "Everyone, I will ward you from Death through supernatural means! But you must still fight for your very lives here today!" He calls out to the group. "Remember, the spell around Rune is still active, if you require warding from mental effects and evil!" Unfortunately, his own Holy Aura was shorter-lived than that.

"Positive energy will be most effective against this thing. But in the end, you crack that skull enough, it's going to break. But right now, you are going to have trouble flying into that storm of bone though." Harkashan then remarks to Rune. "You may have better luck redirecting or destroying the mirrors instead everyone!" He calls out.

He then looks to the Crystal. "The Crystal may be a bit more risky."

A prayer once more to the heavens, and Harkashan sends a reality-shuddering message outwards across the chambers, protecting people from Death's touch. Wrapping them in protective divine energies, before he momentarily goes to his knee, panting. Most of his magics are all gone now. Just a few things here and there left over.

He rises back up and moves just a bit forward. "Take down the mirrors that are feeding it power everyone!"

The array of mirrors that act as a focusing device look like something out of one of the stories that Rune's mother had told her as a child. They always included fantastical places like these, where power was at it's core, and fights between great heroes and great villians would be waged. One can almost imagine the dramatic music...

And then things get dark, twisting into something out of a nightmare. Cor'lana's warnings seem to echo the feeling of dread already roiling in the rogue's stomach. Even after these many months of growing stronger, Rune isn't completely immune to the fear that comes with encounters like these, with creatures who can rend souls.

"R--right, mirrors." Rune manages to make her feet move, approaching the closest of the mirrors and slamming the pommel of her blade into it, sending a spiderweb of cracks up along it.

The moment she does, however, the rogue steps back, raising her hands to the side of her head as if she were warding off something assaulting her senses. There is a strangled cry, her eyes caught by the mirror momentarily as if she were seeing something that no one else is seeing. Taking a half-step back, she shakes her head from side to side.

"There... there are demons in the mirrors. I... I've seen them. I've seen everything. Every..." Her voice trails off, some part of her mind not quite able to fully process whatever it is she had seen in that cracked mirror. "Something isn't right... something is coming..." It's almost as if she were babbling to herself.

"Right! Smash 'em up good! Give 'im alla bad luck!" It's both a comment and a call to arms as she zips her way to a non-Rune'd mirror and takes a solid swing at it.It's tough, but so's she, and she manages to crack it. "Ha! Take that ye shiny ge-"

Her words trail off as her admiring her handiwork quickly turns into vacant staring into the fractured image. Images? All the things?

It might be that these mirrors crack back.
