  • Summary: It is a normal seeming day in the Alexandrian Lower Market when a Barbazu devil appears and rushes into the crowd. With strange things crawling under his skin, he tries to get adventurers to kill him. Two step up to do so, drawing another infested Barbazu from hiding. As one is dismissed and the other killed, the infestation is revealed as Hellwasp swarms which immediately fill the area and start stinging. At the same time, an Unholy Blight kills some people near Seyardu, and Aryia and Morgan search for the source. It is the Ashwings, high in the sky and dipping in and out of clouds. Seyardu summons an Azata to deal with the swarm, but it has difficulty, and Aryia uses a magic light and her great anger to get the other wasps to follow her. Jinks arrives on the scene, and boosts moral and overall effectiveness as Seyardu puts an Air-walk spell on Aryia, letting her dimension door into the air to fight the Erinyes, who has managed to run off Morgan. Merek and Cesran arrive as Aryia manages to pin the Ashwings but she summons a surprise. Tran, disinherited son of the Swadling Family, appears in a great rage and great size. Venom shoots at him, misjudging his reach, and nearly being killed in one hit. Tran is immediately restrained by Cesran's grapsing hand. The spell doesn't last long, as Tran demonstrates how easily he can destroy it, and several guards within reach. Seyardu had moved to heal Venom, and now is in danger. Verna takes a gamble, and after Cesran slows the half-orc to one-eigth speed, the Mourner manages to petrify him. Merek blasts one of the Hellwasp swarms, and then he and Seyardu bring back the slain guards. Aryia and Seyardu have captured the Ashwings and decide, there's nothing useful she can tell them, and end her.

Just west of the Northern Highbridge and east of the arena, commerce blooms. Noisy and bustling, most anything may be purchased here for a price. Vendors from all cultures sell their wares from exotically colored carts, and the smells of different nations and far-off city-states mix with local ones from Alexandria and its riverbanks.

For all its commerce, visitors are advised to keep hold of their purses. Even the merchants possess a certain, cunning look. Most are positioned at carts or stalls as opposed to a formal storefront, with trade here being mobile, and visiting from all parts of the world.

Though the quality of goods suffers here compared to Upper Alexandria, the options are more diverse. Too, the oversight of the Watch is slightly less, and during times events are held at the Arena, chaos abounds. After dark, the square becomes a hangout for bards and other entrepreneurs whose business is best conducted by night; the shadows at the edges of the square often contain furtive figures engaging in their own brand of business.

The sun is already setting. It goes down early in the winter months. The sky was mostly clear throughout the day, with fair weather clouds that now turn orange, carmine, gold and purple as the shadows grow long.

This doesn't interrupt the activities of commerce. Mana lights and frequent patrols, as well as shopkeeps that can see in the dark, keep the plaza busy.

There are permanent shops, and stalls out front, as well as crowds circulating. Perhaps of note to some, a butcher's shop appears to have closed early. All the other vendors are in full swing.

Amidst the bustle of trade is that of a scarred mul'neissa woman in a verdant jacket, shades set firmly on her on nose despite the dwindling sun. She had a few items purchased slung over a shoulder in a bag, her mulling over a set of long curtains. Was that a good color? Or... was the style right? She didn't know, she wasn't an interior decorator.

Or... was she?

Aryia shrugs to herself, picking up one of the curtains and holding it against the dwindling sun. They say blackout curtains, but they always lie about that.

Morgan walks in to the area slowly as she is doging people "Yeash people are acting like there is a mass sale or something here." But a few feet later she finds a clearing where not to many people are at. Stoping at a rug seller taking a look at things she likes she is taking her time.

The market is where one can find all manner of items to purchase. It also happens to be fairly centrally located, in regards to traffic flow. Verna enters from the south, her attention primarily occupied by the tome hovering open before her as she moves. In addition, a coppery spheroid keeps pace along with, floating above and behind her left shoulder. It, too, appears to study the pages, if the single large amber gem along its equator is any indicator.

It was not like the absence of light was an issue, but Seyardu preferred to do her shopping during the day, when most businesses were relatively busy and open. But most of her volunteering and work took place during such hours, so that when she had time, it was important to make the most of it. Many of the cloth stalls and shops were close together, so the sith-makar was not actually far from where Aryia was. She was looking at several clothes tailored to sith-makar, though she stops after catching wind of someone nearby, and she waves to the mul'niessa.

The square is noise with commerce, people haggling, the clatter and clank of goods, being packed, unpacked or handled. Couples leaning in to flirt with each other as they go on their way, even a few crows, or perhaps ravens, squawk as they wait for food to drop.

Or to be held far enough away to easily steal.

It almost goes unnoticed, words of concern, "Hey buddy, you don't look so good. You feeling okay?"

"NO! Out of my way." The good Alexandrian is shoved, stumbles backwards.

A devil steps over him, points at the silverscale with a wicked looking glaive. "YOU! You'll do!"

This devil, it's familiar. Not -personally- familiar but Aryia has seen his type. At the Tornmawr, his kind was summoned by one of the Erinyes. It's a bearded Devil, the beard is living tentacle sucker tubes that drain blood. Also, his skin writhes, as if there are objects moving beneath it.

Also, there's a second, that's hiding across the square, watching.

Having picked his target, the devil dashes across the square towards the silver-scaled sith'makar. He is a classic devil, blood red skin, writhing beard, burning eyes. All of his hair seems to be, remora-like appendages. He roars, "RRAAAAAAaarr-oop!"

As he bring his glaive, his hooves slip on the cobbles and he stumbles, then coughs. He coughs something into his mouth, which he chews and swallows.

The other devil continues to watch, squirming, also having crawly skin.

Aryia squints, pressing herself up against the glass as she watches the devil charge up to Seyardu. She's about to dash through the door, but she pauses. Looks faaar across the square. And her brows raise. Followed by the widening of her eyes and a gasp. She smacks on the glass hard once Seyardu gets on her footing to get her attention. "SEYARDU! I THINK THEY EXPLODE IF YOU KILL THEM!" she gestures widely to the silverscale.

The mute pugilist winds herself up, crouches low, and waits...<Handspeech>

A Mourner brought a collection of dead wasps to the Temple of Vardama, conveying that the Silverguards' thought they were killed by Hellwasps.

The two are bearded devils, not very dangerous, the guards might even be able to take them. Their glaives cause wounds that keep bleeding. There's something under their skin, moving around, some kind of swarm'

Their attack ... incredibly obvious... militarily, the devils are smarter than this. It's some kind of ambush or trap, intended to kill a bunch of bystanders somehow. By herding them into a bigger problem or maybe drawing someone out.

Morgan flys up in the air as she says "Its a bearded devil every one, they are not that dangerous and this is some kind of trick so keep on your toes." she is now looking around as if she is expecting something else to happen.

Verna's hood lifts as someone is shoved down and there is a shout. It remains up at the sight of the apparent fiend. Demons, devils, dhampyrs... darnit? Her tome is promptly closed and stowed. "It may still be dangerous," she calls, lifting her voice to address the shoppers and merchants perhaps more than any adventurers, "especially if it is some ruse! Take cover for your own safety!"

Seyardu looks to the creature, but before she can react it is already charging her. But by no small amount of luck the demon fumbles, giving the cleric a chance to step back and catch the frantic signing. "Noted." She signs back to the mul'niessa, before she reaches for her holy symbol to offer a short prayer, causing wings to sprout from their back, and the sith-makar to radiate divine energy. "EVERYONE, GET AWAY FROM THE MARKETS NOW!" She shouts to those gathered, before she turns back to where the fiend was.

The area around the silverscale darkens, there's the smell of sulfur, the faint sounds of screams. The moss between the cobbles seems to catch fire, wisps and tiny flames everywhere. The brickwork ages, mortar crumbling between them.

Inside the shop, the bright blinds that the mul'niessa was holding up, grow tattered, dark, and fade. Darkness, that pulls at the soul, surrounds the sith'makar and those near her are stricken.

Two shoppers and a vendor drop to the ground.

"KILL ME ALREADY!" The Bearded Devil swings at Seyardu, a powerful looking attack, he really leans into it. One that misses her completely. The backswing is also horribly executed. He seems, distracted somehow, though unaffected by the area blight. "Or DIE! Dying is fine too!"

There's an Erinyes flying one hundred feet above Morgan, hovering, with Mirror Images going.

The other bearded devil, itches and looks impatient, waiting for something.

Aryia suddenly grits her teeth as the life withers from her. The curtains in her grasp withering away. Guess they weren't blackout curtains after all. Of course. They were here. Just when she was trying to move away from such madness.

She shoulders the door open and tries to slip behind a tent, her looking up and around for something. Anyth-

The depth of her scowl cannot be described. She spots the Mourner, her hissing at Verna to get her attention. "Verna. Devils might explode if you kill them. Ashwing above!" <Handspeech>

Grrr...

Morgan starts to fly up in the air as she spots one flying fallen angl also known as a Erinyes. In the area there looks to be a few of them "Stupid mirror Immage." With that said she starts to say a few arcane words that sends a blue energy leaving only one left.

People start running.

Two sets of patrolling guards run towards the danger, converging on Seyardu and the bearded devil.

The shoppers, and even most of the vendors that have a clear exit away start running in that direction. Some hit obstacles. On the far side of the square a trio are heading for an alley when they halt suddenly, and turn northwards and run along a store front.

A few others seem to think that hiding behind the vending stalls will do, or that windows make them safe. Faces are looking out curiously from the nearest stores.

Except where someone died, the nearby survivors have huddled to the back, unlocking the back exits or wishing they had one.

The square gets a little emptier, but it's clear they are terrible at following orders. Chatter seems to suggest they overheard a few things, specifically that the devil 'wasn't that dangerous'.

Verna is aware that some lower extraplanar beings may well detonate, incinerate, implode and/or otherwise cause harm upon their demise. Whether this one might... she is not certain and defers to Aryia's warning. She will not take that chance, with shoppers and keeps about (some already injured) and now potentially-eager guards closing in.

She shuffles briskly towards the bearded one, clutching the dangling scale about her neck. It is then lifted high at the creature as she calls upon her Mistress' might to deport the unwelcome extraplanar visitor. "You do not belong in this realm, fiend! By The Harpist's Hall, begone!"

The devil turns and snarls at Verna, "FINALLY!" He vanishes.

He seems to vanish, then re-appear behind the Mourner with a raised glaive, while remaining in front of her as well. Buzzing.

Buzzing loudly. The devil is gone, in it's place is a swarm of wasps. Each is tiny, yet larger than it should be, with tiny, compound eyes that burn with unrelenting fury.

The devil hiding in the alley immediately teleports behind Verna.

The devil attacking Seyardu vanished and turned into a bunch of wasps and is now behind Verna... or something like that.

The people near the silverscale might be dead. The blight was strong enough to kill a regular person.

When the bearded devil vanishes, and leaves a swarm of bees in its place, Seyardu squints, but not more so than when the two nearby people drop to the ground. She had a good idea where the source was. Her hand reaches for the holy symbol again when she realizes they were not yet dead however, and healing magics emanate outwards, as well as spell offered in prayer, which bolsters the group that seemed to be fighting against them.

There's a hiss of anger from the fallen angel as her illusions are cancelled, followed by a snickering as one of the bearded devils goes down. "Go ahead, put them out of their misery!" She cackles.

Except, it's not a proper witch cackle. Sadly she doesn't seem to care about this distinction, nor the expert flying up to attack her. The Erinyes flaps, gliding higher and nocking an arrow which she bursts into flame as it streaks towards Morgan, and strikes.

On the ground, the bearded devil, the other bearded devil takes a swing at Verna, then another. Perhaps he hasn't been as chewed on by wasps yet, something clearly is moving beneath his skin. The wicked glaive rips through the Mourner's back, then adds a parallel slice, opening ragged, infernal wounds that are going to bleed, and bleed.

Aryia's ire is directed straight up at the Erinyes that snipes at friends. She felt the pools align, and she crouches down to get ready to launch herself up at her. But then Verna is cleaved at.

For fuck's sake... the bitch was going to get away again...

Varmada, you better be watching this.

The pugilist steps out from behind the stall and taps the devil on the shoulder. She up tilts her head in a universal "'sup?" manner, then decks them across the jaw with a punch so blindingly fast even the Hells couldn't hold back. She grabs the fiend by the horns as they teetered about, and smashes their skull into the wood table. Again. And again. And again.

Morgan mutters something about fighting by her self "I am a wizard where are my meat shields." she then makes a few hand movements and says a word with a hollow voice that sends a lighting streak at the flying devil only minorly hurting it.

Aryia, aka meat shield, has flown a grand total of twice, and both times were terrifying. Terra firma for lyfe

The lightning arcs towards the fallen angel, who does a quick roll in the air to dodge it. She laughs, "HA! I've learned since MerrRrRRrRRRR!..." until she's interrupted by an unexpected jag, that lights her up, sparks crackling between her teeth.

"...eck..." Her taunt destroyed, she's smoking from her face now. On the ground it's almost possible to hear her jaw grinding in anger.

Maybe Vardama hears it too.

The two brought back by Seyardu's channel help each other to stand, then dart for the nearest alley-way. Others out in the square, exposed, run for stores.

Those in the stores, if they're un-wise, are watching. The wise ones are leaving.

The guards charge. A pair rush as the stunned devil, bringing out flails instead of their usual nightsticks. They're going for damage. One swings high, the other low, both connect but the weapons bounce the way the Mul'niessa remembers her own fists did.

Still, it does some damage, and seems to squish a few of the moving lumps beneath the skin of the fiend.

Somehow, despite being stunned, the devil swipes back. It's wicked polearm slices right through the guard's armour. It nearly kills him. He staggers back, blood gushing.

The second set of guards charge the mass of wasps. They also swing at it, but do little more than disperse them. And make them more angry.

The wasps were already hellishly angry.

The swarm of angry wasps moves after Seyardu, surrounding the sith'makar and crawling all over her. She's used to stinging bugs, anyone from Am'shere would be, but these wasps are worse than the regular versions. The fine the edges between scales, and the small scales beside the eyes. They try to crawl into ear-holes.

She's stung all over, but their venom is weak.

The bearded devil swings at the second guard. It clips him right across a thigh, causing him to stumble. The pair of patrollers don't look good at all.

Verna beseeched her Mistress to remove the devil. It did... somewhat. As the guards are quickly getting minced, she must now attempt to do so a bit more ... inelegantly. "Get back you fools..." That is to the guards as she steps past them and to the devil, opening herself as a conduit to the Harpist's Hall more directly; a place of the dead, for the dead, that is anathema to life. This includes the devil, and even the swarm within it, as the former withers away to all but nothing and reveals the latter.

Seyardu swats away some of the insects that are swarming her, but the nearby guards seem to get the worst of it. She forces her way through the creatures, but they did not sting further. She pulls out a small pouch from her bag and dumps the powder inside around herself in a sigil, causing a ward of magic to surround an area around her. "Stay close, this may or may not prevent the insects from attacking. Fall back when you can." She offers, unsure what to actually do to deal with them.

"Let me pay you back for that." The Erinyes taunts, flying higher and shooting another flaming arrow at Morgan. "You're RIGHT! Where are your meat shields? Don't you have any friends?"

They continue to circle.

The witch flies closer to the Erinyes, and calls down, "Fire can hurt swarms. They're also immune to fire. Try holy fire."

Aryia has only one option, and that's to bat at the swarm with open palm strikes. A few get crushed, but most are just shoved out of the way. She hisses in frustration, and directs at frustration towards the guards. She shoos them, waving them away. This was a fight not for them.

The two guards near Verna and Aryia stagger back, clutching at their wounds. The weaker one gasps, "Help," and collapses. His partner pulls him a short distance, also gasping, "thanks."

The way the Mourner sent the devil onto the Grey Halls was fantastic, they were impressed. Now, they're worried they're about to join it. Especially when the mul'niessa hisses at them.

What did they do wrong? They're the good guys. Ask anyone.

The Mourner gets down to treating the guards and herself.

Up by Seyardu, one of the guards says, "We can get lanterns, or torches, is that going ot be enough?" He flails with his flail and fails. A few smushed wasps, but the swarm is going strong.

"Try Salt!" Someone shouts from across the courtyard.

"Salt is for snails!" A northern lurker answers.

"Still might work."

The wasps swarm towards Seyardu, and run up against the barrier of her protective bubble. They spread across it, thinning out, covering half a hemisphere. Crawling, stinking, testing, looking for a way through, finding none.

The other group, despite being stirred by Aryia, is still shaking itself awake. It expands into a second angry, buzzing cloud.

The Mourner concentrates on keeping the guards alive, stopping their bleeding. The wounds are difficult. It will take time.

With the bugs seeming to be unable to break through the magic for the moment, Seyardu sighs. It was a moment of respite for her to figure out what to do.

"Fire will not work, you will need to find someone capable of magic to deal with them, wizards or clerics or the like. I have no magic myself capable of dealing with them."

The cleric takes her holy symbol and begins chanting something much more complicated, hoping that it would manage to be what she needed.

The Erinyes and Morgan fly higher, into one of the purple evening clouds. Their battle continues out of sight.

Aryia, frustrated that her options were dwindling as the swarm grows. She looks to Seyardu, listening for some kind of guidance on this matter, yet finding the options culled further. She bites her lip, growing so annoyed. The only option she had left was to risk getting to the Ashwing and grabbing them. Yet that was far, far too risky after last time. Another glance to Seyardu. It looked like she was doing something complicated, and whatever magic she put up seemed to hold them at bay.

Bugs follow lights, right?

Taking a moment to breathe. In. Out. Aryia grasps at the light and yanks it forth. Moonlight coats her hand like many times before, it as bright as a torch. She waves it at the swarm, dashing through it to try and make them follow after her as she goes around the guards, and then back into the other swarm. She taunts them with the light on her hand, swinging it near the edge of the invisible barrier to entice them further to and find some way through the holy line in the air.

The two guards nearest Seyardu look at her, then the mul'niessa for instructions.

The Hellwasps, irritated by the celestial light and the mul'nissa running through their midst, followed her. They followed as she taunted the other group. Now, the two swarms have become one giant swarm of stinging nasty-nes. They crawl all over the protective bubble.

Decisions, decisions... trust the dark elf, or the lizardman-person. Tough call.

Well the silvery one has been casting the healing spells and put up the barrier which the wasp swarm, now two wasp swarms, are crawling all over.

"Ma'am, you look like an adventurer who knows what she's doing. What should we do?" One says. The other is looking at the hell-bees and swinging his flail lightly. "If we hit from inside here, does that let them in? Because I wanna try something."

An arrow falls from the sky.

The Lower Market is a chaotic mess, more so than usual. The cut-throat capitalism was interrupted by actual violence, a bearded devil appearing and spoiling for a fight. Shoppers and vendors started to clear out, a little bit, to a safe distance where they could watch.

This would explain the regular folk running down the streets, shouting, "Keep running!" Not everyone listened.

Two foot patrols stepped in to help and were cut down. It was a trap, engineered by a fallen angel who has plagued the city for months. While the devil is usually in the details, this time the wasps were in the devils. How they got there, none can say, perhaps the Erinyes was opportunistic that way.

With the devils gratefully dispatched back to the Hells, it has left two swarms of wasps buzzing around the square, and some adventurers who don't seem able to chase them off.

The Mourner continues to treat the fallen guards. The injuries left by the glaive are resistant to spells. She's having to hammer the heals in.

Somewhere in the clouds, the fighting continues.

Seyardu finishes the changing she was doing, and there is a sudden swirling of harsh winds near the bugs, blowing many of them about. When the winds die down somewhat, in their place is a vaguely humanoid shape of mist, which looks about.

"Doubt I'll have time to grab anything from that cart, shame. That skewered meat was really good last time." The wind laments in a voice that seems to be understood directly through their minds. <Truespeech> "Demonic insects? Let's see what I can do about them." It repeats in a different, musical tone, before their arms erupt into twin whirlwinds that cut through the swarms. <Celestial>

Seyardu reaches out to Aryia after, and offers another prayer, before laying a hand on the Mul'niessa. "This should allow you to keep your footing in the air." She advises, before turning back to make sure the guards and everyone else was alright.

Above the clouds, the mul'niessa finds herself approximately forty feet from the Erinyes, and eighty feet from Morgan. The Ashwing keeps flitting away, shooting arrows, with Morgan in pursuit but accumulating injuries.

The ground is obscured by clouds.

Aryia holds her light up, trying to keep the swarm busy as Seyardu finishes whatever it was. And she finishes. And her eyes land on am Azata. In the flesh. Her eyes widen.

And the air beneath her feet became solid ground.

The pugilist was inspired.

She breathes in deeply, focuses herself as she cracks her neck. Feels the pools swirl. And a blast of after images shoot off from the dome of demon wasps, the cloud proofing open in a circle as Aryia throws herself to the sky. The fighting ground was even.

Time for some long deserved payback. Where is that bitch..?

There were enough quiet days, something like this was probably inevitable.

Drawn toward the chaos by the scattering crowd, a silent shadow skulks to the mouth of an alley not terribly far from Seyardu in time for the buzzing dome to disgorge a dark blur into the sky.

Figuring weird wasps are summons of some kind, and, given some past conversations, likely Evil Wasps, she dips a hand under her poncho for...

Something that isn't there.

Drat!

Her fallback option comes to her hand in the time it takes for the enigma to simply change her mind.

She tries to guage the distance as she tests the weight of the acid ampuoule in her hand, then hucks it out into an arc toward the infernal(abyssal?) insects, but... to her chagrin, the arc was a little too flat, and the acid sizzles uselessly on the stone beside the bugs.

A few more bystanders take the back doors and leave, but most remain where they are, especially as more adventurers join the fight.

"... and it's not like I won't come back when you have my pants!" Jinks is shouting back into the door of a tailors as he steps out into the street. He looks all set to go from just about the waist up but his coat and shirt obscures his underclothes and his legs are bare. Well, except for the socks and sock garters.

"Well, I see they did a lot of nest-poking and not a lot of wasp-removal last night," grumbles the gnome as he pads over, nearer to the familiar silver sith-makar.

"They bite, sting, and suck. Bite, sting, and suck, suck, suck." He sings, the last word shimming through the air between it makes the babiest of thunderclaps between the two swarms.

"(... that doesn't inspire confidence...)" he mutters.

The swarms are tumbled by the Azata's wind blast, then hit by the sonic attack from the gnome.

One, immediately surrounds the surrounds the Bralani Azata, crawling all over it, stinging.

The other swarm heads upwards, chasing that annoying celestial light.

It's rumoured that Hellwasp swarms form from the souls of angry individuals. Aryia's anger draws them. They want to feel it, sting it. Maybe the mul'niessa will join them.

Merek walks along the alley with his wings beginning to unfurl even as the man shifts the scarf which he wears, golden eyes looking to demons while he takes the time to begin to summon power into both hands of his. There's no words, looks like he is a man on a mission, walking towards where there is fighting.

Verna managed to close the guard's wounds (and possibly her own?), despite the barbazu blighted nature of them. Now it seems the trouble has taken to the skies, or moreso. A rod appears in her hand to expedite magic to grant her own skyward abilities and she rises. As she does so, her attention turns to the uplifted swarm of wasps drawn by Aryia. Beseeching "The Gray Harpist judge you," she conjures a spreading burst of blessed silvery light from her Mistress' All-Seeing Eyes to sear those impure of heart and soul.

"Ah, shit." The Azata coughs, the wind appearing to almost retching after the insects. It floats away after blowing more of the insects around. Seyardu reaches for her holy symbol, and holds it up, filling those near her with a familiar blessing of alacrity. "I cannot fight off these insects, but I will do what I can to help." She calls over to the others, not wanting to risk moving her protective bubble.

"I'll deal with you later," The Ashwings sneers.

At Morgan, she's speaking to the witch. Her favourite little playing has just appeared. With a wide grin she kicks into a dive, smoke trailing her wings, a dark streak that crosses Aryia in the air.

Her longsword, a lancer's longsword, flashes. As she strikes, the mul'niessa feels a chill, an overwhelming anxiety. This is bad, this is real bad.

The sensation passes. Her tricks are not as effective as they once were.

Pivoting in the air from the Celestial Mother's blessing, a fist speeds out and cracks the Ashwing in the side, trying to clothesline her on the fly by.

And just as fast as the Fallen Angel, the pugilist rushes through the air. She fakes out a wide haymaker that she's used many times before, twirls on the spot, and snaps a glowing, moonlit hand out.

It solidly grabs armor, and an arm is wrenched almost out of socket.

In the air, so close to the grappled Erinyes, the mute leans in, and whispers in her ear.

"Remember me, bitch?" <Celestial>

The watchers keep watching. Things are getting good!

Venom looks skyward a moment, momentarily motionless as an exchange of limbs takes place well beyond her longarm's reach.

The veiled one emerges from the alleyway, dipping into her poncho to withdraw one of her waxy canvas bundles, with the pries apart like an open faced sandwich as she comes in behind some victims of the hellish hornets and, after regaining her footing after a misstep in time with an inspiring chord, deftly flicks it out into the swarm.

She manages to land it tacky side down with a sickening squerch, the adhesive swiping a short lived tunnel through the insects and trapping some to the cobblestones.

The rest are not amused.

Her hand flashes hasty signs, "I can't help from down here!" without exposed expression, but her posture, her scent are steeped in urgency. <handspeech>

Jinks' legs are goose-pimply shortly after leaving the tailors' half-dressed to join the fray. The swarms hardly seemed to respond to his initial offensive-- only confirming his doubts about the effectiveness of his portfolio against infernal vermin hordes. There was a vague gesture of the gnome tugging at the Weave during Venom's throw and now he sucks in a deep breath. This is going to have to be loud if the mul'niessa is going to hear him a decent-sized cityblock overhead.

"I've had my eyes on you ever since you walked in the room.
"Come on and take my hand. Don't try to understand...
"Oh, baby, nothing can stop us now. I'm going to show you how.
"Show you how to work." <gnomish>

The gnome's stance is wider and he rests a hand lightly over his stomach. The other is open, fingers splayed and pointed towards the night skies. His jewels glitter in the lamp light.

The swarms love their celestials. Despite the tanglefoot bag, the hellwaps buzzing around Seyardu's circle fly en mass after the Azata, and sting! Sting! Sting! The other group is an angry cloud, rising after the Mul'niessa and her deceptive light.

Merek looks up to one of the swarms of wasps, then he takes the time to speak while he teleports along to the skies, taking his time to adjust the wings of his so he can prepare and fight with the creature.

The winged one ( as opposed to the winged masses) seems to be the primary instigator. She then wished to flee, it seemed, and Aryia has other ideas. Verna flies nearer, albeit and much lower altitude, before conjuring an emerald beam to launch upwards to strike the Erineys. If Aryia wishes her to stay, Verna can aid that. Many, if not all, fiends can vanish at a whim. This she knows far, far, FAR too well. There has also been a SLIGHT increase in extraplanar troubles as of late. Which may explain why a number of incantations in her repertoire are decidedly potent against those from the lower planes.

"Hold her as you will! She will not so easily escape now!" she calls up. It seemed more appropriate than 'Stay awhile, and listen.'

It's then that she catches sight of a man, adjusting his dark clothes and flying by the wasps. Him!

There's a steel look in her eyes as she turns her blade on Aryia. Snicker! It went. Not like a vorpal, more light a laugh. She gasps in pain as she goes for a thrust. That twisted shoulder is real.

Recovering from the stings of the insects,the azata blasts the cloud of bugs with another gust of wind, before floating away. Seyardu holds up her holy symbol, and radiates another burst of healing energy as more are joining the fray, and several are struck by various sources.

Aryia didn't understand the hellish words uttered back to her, but she felt their malice. Their hatred. And then, surprise. She yanks the Ashwing about, twisting and turning to avoid the bite of the blade in the air. She's unaware of the others below her, but the song just barely reaches her ears.

And her torch-bright eyes narrow in sheer focus.

She throws the Ashwing over shoulder and wraps a leg around the sword arm, another arm pulling a wing back so far it almost snaps. Tangled up. Snared. Pinned. In the air. For all to see.

"I. Am done. With you," she hisses in an ear. <Celestial>

Jinks continues his performance.

There's a puff of purple smoke. Jinks is engulfed. It's an unexpected surprise, for the gnome. It's stage magic, and the familiar scent is comforting. Until he remembers one detail...

The Coward's Cloak, an heirloom of the Swadling family, so named because it's so often used to make an escape. Although today, it's used to make an entrance.

When the smoke clears, the gnome finds himself between two massive legs, with a distinctive, porcine-infernal smell, familiar to anyone that's been in a certain dojo. Suggestive of brawlers, who dranks some blood. An Ashwing's blood.

"WELL! Nice to see you're all here!" He booms jovially, "Time for some revenge."

"STOP POSTURING AND KILL! THIS BITCH IS TWISTING MY ARM OUT." The Erinyes shrieks. <Infernal>

The sudden appearance of a huge half-orc, the sound of a thunderbelcher has spooked the remaining spectators and they clear out.

It's not going well, is it? With Aryia's pretzel calling in reinforcements, Venom goes for the big gun. As Venom moves, trying to get an angle both to avoid chancing a blowthrough on her friendlies, and giving the baddie another vector to vent at rather than Seyardu and Jinks, she draws her Thunderbelcher from beneath her poncho.

Even as she's bringing it to her shoulder, soaking her forward momentum with her leading foot, the surprise guest brings his flaming claws across her as the simultaneous >BZZZZ-THOOOOM!!!< blows a small divot in his torso.

Clearly, and scorchingly, Venom is driven to knee and buttstock by the blow, garments rent in parellel, smoking furrows and fresh blood seeps from the wounds.

Except the guards, who do something foolishly brave and form a line in front of Tran.

It takes three of them to match his width, and one risks all to snatch the gnome from between the half-orc's legs and pass him back to a buddy, getting him out of the way.

The Hellwasp swarms continue their relentless pursuit of the Azata, and that Celestial spark. The aimable outsider archer finds himself stung to the point of being nauseated and clumsy. The second group flies ever higher, approaching Aryia and the Ashwing.

Merek looks to the wasps while they begin their way towards Aryia, and he flies along and lowers his altitude so he can take a moment to focus on his magic. Circles appear along the hands while he lifts up both of them, one pointed to the wasps, another along to the giant. Then he casts a lightning chain which takes a few wasps with that, the spear of purity managing to strike into the giant while he uses the power of magic.

Cesran is coming back to the Lower Alexandria Market District to meet with a man that he spoke to yesterday. He's on his carpet of flying when he can see and hears that there is a disturbance in the market place. Remembering about the Hellwasps he directs his carpet of flying to move in. He gets a full view of the situation and he takes out a rod from his belt. He focuses on the hellwasp swarm that's going after Aryia as she appears to be trying to keep an erinyes pinned. Cesran takes out a bit of fur and a glass rod as he starts to quickly cast a spell. He points the glass rod at the swarm as a bolt of lightning shoots forth and cuts a line through the swarm to devastating effects. Not enough to take it down, but he has certainly hurt it.

Cesran turns his attention to Tran as he puts the fur and glass rod away before he takes out a soft looking glove. He starts to cast a spell and he squeezes the glove in his hand. A hand of force appears behind Tran and grabs him hard. The hand squeezes him hard to hurt him at least to get his attention.

GAME: Jinks spends ONE use of BARDIC PERFORMANCE.

Jinks' eyes are large at the arrival of Tran. He sucks in another deep breath and continues to sing his song.

Tran hits like a freight hauler and gets many attacks, and has a variety of nasty tricks. He's a dangerous threat to all in range.

"Those of you that are around Tran I would back away from him now while I have him. He's a pretty cagey fighter and looks like he could take you all out if he gets free." Cesran says after eying up Tran. He has magical eyes and a wizard.

Now there is a Tran below (and a severely wounded gunslinger) in addition to the arm and/or wing-twisting going on above. Verna splits her focus some, near-instantly conjuring a ghostly hand to her side. That shall help in dealing with the broad battlefield. She subsequently looses a ray of utter black at the impaired Tran, but the snapshot impacts the cobblestones to no demonstrable affect.

There was much more going on all of the sudden. Tran was back, Jinks was dragged out from under them by the guards that were still lingering around. And Venom was bloodied by just a few movements from the half-orc. She rushes to their side and immediately begins chanting a spell, pulling the veiled adventurer back to their feet with a wave of healing energy. "Get back away from that man, all of you!" She shouts to the guards, once Jinks is pulled back. At least the wasps were not close by for their retreat now, though the Azata summoned before is still struggling with them.

Aryia keeps moving, wrapping the Ashwing further and further up in her grapple. Wings are grabbed, wrenched into place. Limbs are painfully stretched back. More and more the dignity of the Fallen Angel is held prostrated in the air. Having learned to be prepared from her special someone, she pulls some rope out from behind her, looped on her bag. She looks down, and her heart drops at the sight. Venom. Being nearly disembowled. Her grip starts to strain bones.

The elf jams a knee into the devil's back throwing rope around like she was born to do so. Hands fly in a flurry, not to strike, no. But to restrict, to hold.

The Erinyes is tied up. Knots so tight that only a sailor could do.

She looks down, sun-bright eyes meeting the hateful, infernal gaze. It was at this moment, the Ashwing knew, her weight was no long supported aloft by the blackened wings.

Her face relaxes.

She takes a deep breath in.

And lets go...

The raging giant half-orc finds himself restrained by Cesran's grasping hand. His own hands are massive claws, wreathed in flame, glowing with hell fire. He swipes at the spell, and swipes, and swipes.

The attacks keep coming. They're brutal, each hit would take down a normal man. Five of them are needed to obliterate the spell. He falls on the guards.

And they fall. One. Two. Three.

"RUAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!" His bellow echoes off the walls of the market.

Venom has herself a moment in the wake of that colossal hit, raining blood both bright and dark as a hand comes up to cradle her wounds, breath rasping hard through her ruffling veils.

Her split toed boot grinds softly as she pushes back to her feet and edges back from the behemoth with a more meleelike grip on her quasi-artifice weapon, with it held in a diagonal as like a spear en garde and she carefully backpedals to collect herself and try to get a more... condusive battle plan going. She can only hope her friends...

Her...

... that they all come through this in the end.

Jinks continues to stand behind the remaining guard, raising his voice about the din to do what little he could. He takes ahold of the watchman's belt and tugs it backwards, trying to get the man moving away from the fight.

"I... oh shit." The remaining guard says, dropping the halberd he was bringing to bear. He's half-frozen, half tripping over Jinks as he steps backwards into the gnome. Automaticaly he grabs him and backpedals as fast as he can, "We gotta get out of her buddy."

Merek flies with the wings of his, taking the time to gain altitude while he lifts up a hand, glowing circles beginning to shimmer about the wrist, then he sends a bolt of lightning which strikes along the swarm, killing all of the swarm that remain along with that one. He then takes the time to watch Cesran take care of trying to bind Tran, thinking about what he will work on next probably.

Cesran frowns as Tran punches his way out of his Crushing Fist and proceeds to seemingly kill three of the guards. He looks over the battlefield and although he'd like to help the poor Azata that's having trouble with the swarm Tran is literally the biggest threat. He quickly does the math and with a word in the spidery language of the arcane about 40 feet away from Tran there is a wave of magical energy that washes over only him. All his magical items suddenly are suppressed as Cesran takes out a drop of molasses and rubs it between his fingers. He points his staff at Tran as the magic takes hold and Tran's limbs start to become heavy.

Cesran says, "Try making eight attacks now!"

Verna scowls down at the now-freed storm of a fiendish... whatever by the hells that one is. A spell shattered followed by three guards?! She is not the one who determines when one visits her Mistress... though she can strongly encourage it. That impulse is stayed, however, and she enacts restraint; both within and attempts to do the same to Tran.

One hand lifts, bearing her scale high to draw sigils in the air. The other also lifts and gestures, though the other draws upon her knowledge rather than the wisdom nor beseechment of The Grey Harpist. Both are completed near-simultaneously.

Glowing pale chains rises from the ground in attempt to ensure the wild one, yet he leaps aside. He is less successful in moving after as his feet appear to root to the cobblestones, promptly gaining their color and consistency; an effect that rises up legs, torso, spreads to arms and finally freezes his posture and expression in stone.

Merek says, "Did you just win by petrification?"

There is a burst of no magic, and while the half-orc remains raging and on fire, he seems somehow diminished.

"How about I.." He steps forward, reaching for one of the fallen guards. His limbs slowing, his words drawn out. "beeaaaat.... yooooouuuuu......"

Chains of light come up from the ground, lashing but sliding off him, "wiiiiiiiith....." He petrifies, from the feet up, until he is a solid, giant, angry mass of rock.

The Mourner did just win by petrification.

Seyardu watched near where Venom recently was as the half-orc came down on the guards with a flurry of blows. And in that movement three of them fell to the ground.

The ashwing fell much farther to the ground, yet seemed to be in much better shape. And Verna caused the raging brawler to freeze in place. Seeing an opening, she rushes to where the guards had fallen. One was for certain dead, but one was still barely breathing. She holds her holy symbol in one hand, pressing it against the fallen guard. "Celestial mother, bring this child back from the brink, taken before their time."

Following that, she sends what remains of her healing, mending the wounds of the still living. She tends to them for some time, nodding to Merek when he falls down next to her.

"That fiend still breathes." She states, gesturing to the bound ashwing. "You did a good job Aryia, but they still might be able to escape.

Merek moves along and towards one of the fallen, noting that he will not be able to assist if he doesn't take the wings away. He does that, and falls along to the ground while there is a *CRACK*. The bones within him take the time to get used to their new state while the man places a hand upon the guard to bring him back with the healing magic, "I call you back from the..." He coughs up a little and it's blood while he tries his best to work the magic. The body already can not take magic like it used to, and with bones like that. Then he tries to roll along upon his back to look up at the sky.

The dead are called back so fast it's a religious experience. First there was a searing sensation as claws rip through in, punctures and penetrations so violent they barely feel any pain, only the disorientation of the Grey Halls appearing in from of them. As the Grey Lady's land calls to them, they feel two more. One guard is enveloped in the soft embrace of the All-Mother, and the other a silvery halo of moon-light. The two goddesses shake their head at the first. Not yet.

The guards end up bracketing the third, who was mortally wounded and on the verge of expiring, and return with him through Althea's grace.

They awake, flat on their backs, bloody, with the snarling form of the one that slew them reaching for them.

"AHH!!" One says.

"My Goddess is a Silver Sith'Makar!" The second gasps.

"Is this what being Adventurers feel like?" The third, the one that didn' die, asks.

The mage on the carpet hovers near, "I can bubble her up if you want to question her."

"I'm answering nothing!" The Erinyes snarls, struggling and unable to escape.

Aryia watches the fight unfold from her bird's eye view, oddly... at peace. Rage boiled underneath her skin, but she watches the Erinyes writhe in pain on the ground. Venom was okay. Everyone was okay.

The pools coalecse once more for the pugilist to dash back down to the ground in a line of faded after images, her landing beside the truly fallen angel. She struggles and try to free herself. Yet it couldn't stop the mul'neissa grabbing the devil by the hair and dragging her over to the Celestially infused silver-scale with draconic wings, radiating the Mother's power.

Aryia throws the Ashwing before her friend, kicks the fiend over, and steps her boot down on her throat to shut them up.

She looks at Seyardu with sun-bright eyes. Months of frustration and fear honed to a single, steeled gaze.

"Do it. Let's end this," she motions with finality. "Together."<Handspeech>

Cesran moves his carpet of flying down and looks over to Seyardu, "if you want to send the Azata back I can finish off the warm of hellwasps." He offers before he looks at the tied up demon, 'I can put her in a bubble if we want to question her."

The guards are extremely grateful, thanking Merek and Seyardu frequently, as well as giving the stone half-orc a wary eye, as if expecting him to suddenly burst free. "It's fine if finish her, that's clearly a fiend. Not sure about him."

Seyardu looks up and over to the struggling ashwing. And up to Aryia. Cesran offers to put her in a bubble for questioning, and the cleric shakes her head. "They will not answer anything. And they must answer, for what they have done.Too much."

Stands up, and takes her polearm and turning it upside down. She looks to the others and pauses, waiting for someone to tell her not to. No replies seem to come.

"Trouble our world no longer." She states, tightening her grip on the weapon. With Aryia holding them in place, the pointed tip of the polearm is shoved donward, through the ashwing's head, piercing whatever wards blocked normal weaponry with the divine might floating free. She twists it once for good measure.
