The wonderful thing about diggers
Ther'es a bit of a commotion going on, lots of happy screams and laughs from a group of children in the markets. They are gathered around a Khazad with a long black beard and a digger. New kids arrive and othera are picked back up by their parents. The enjoyment comes from the Khazan handing out honey candies to them and then each getting a ride on the digger. The digger, bounds around in circles excitedly while each rider hangs onto the saddle. It's some time until they have all gotten a candy and a ride and get ushers back to where they came from. Now free, Bildor looks at the digger with a shrug and he shakes the empty bag. "Time to get you come breakfast. Yeah?'
Morgan is flirtering around the open stalls as if looking for something, but a smile comes to her face as she approaches one vendor "Did you get it?" she then gets even more happy when the man motions to a bag. Slowly she counts out a large sum of money.
Erendriel is still practicing! She walks down the street, coming from the general direction of the temple district. In front of her is a mage hand, holding an oddly-shaped metal object. Keeping an eye on it as she walks around, she slow downt o see what's going on. In fact, she completely stops to see this digger and the kids, clapping.
Clapping gets the digger's attention and it bounds over to Erendriel to sniff with it's tail wagging excitedly. Bildor goes around to several vendors, buying up all their old vegetables until he has a sack full. "That'll do." A nod and he hefts the bag over his shoulder to start loking for his digger again. Morgans happiness over whatever is in the bag draws his attention and he stops to look. Curious what's in it.
Morgan uses both hands to pick up the bag but she then hums and puts it on the ground. Straiting up she says a few arcane words that make the bag to float "I wish I knew Obsidian was so heavy." Muttering some what to her self but the small woman does not look to strong.
Erendriel goes wide-eyed as the miniature bulette approaches her. But when it's friendly yet, she giggles, and gently pats the scaled creature on top of the head. "Hello," she says, looking to the digger, and also over to Bildor and Morgan.
"It's a bag o' rocks, lass. Of course it's heavy." Says Bildor with a smile at Morgan. "Seems to me, that's an unusual purchase here in the city." He sets his own sack down for a moment. "What do you need that much obsidian for?" The digger, bounces on it's feeet and the tail wag gets more pronounced. It's entire butt wiggling before finally sitting and staring expectantly.
Morgan finaly notices the Digger as some one speaks to her. "Um oh I am making a magical belt for some one and I need to take one rock and grind it to a fine dust. The rest is so in the future I dont have to get more for a while." she reaches in a pouch on her side and gets a cloudy crystal and gives the man a look of is it ok to feed the digger it.
Erendriel pats the digger again, and resists the urge to climb on. So instead, she starts walking over to Morgan and Bildor, seeing if the digger will follow. "Oh a magical belt, that's very nice. What kind? I'm Erendriel by the way, hello."
Bildor listend, nodding as he does. "An artisan? DO ya make non-magical items aswell?" He looks at the crtytal and nods. "O'course. She's still young and growing. Loves the crystals and gems but no way I can afford to feed her just that." He laughs and opens the bag as Erendriel walks over, followed by the digger. He whistles and the digger plods over, sniffing at the veggies before moving over to Morgan for the crystal treat instead.
Mikilos mutters absently to himself, hauling a small cart across the market. The elf is dirty, and not just his mind, with mud caked up to his elbows and all over his boots. Little odd for a wizard, but it might have somethign to do with the large load of dirt in the cart he's pulling.
Morgan nods and gives a small giggle as she feeds the Digger a crystal that costs about at most 2 cp "If you want more crystals like this go to the mountains there are a lot of Geodes." she looks to Erendriel "It;s a belt pf perfect perfection." But said to both "I am also a book binder."
Erendriel nods "Sounds amazing. So what are your names?" she asks, though shortly after she will be interrupted by a child running into her, trying to approach the digger, which leads to a few moments of distractions as she makes sure the child is fine, and settles things down.
"A what, now?" Asks Bildor with an arched brow. "Sounds...redundant." He shrugs it off and taps the bag with his foot a few times and wnhistles again. The digger, continues to not eat the veggies, instead sniffing at Morgan's hands to see if there are more hidden crystals. "Well, we may have to go on a trip there. Get enough to keep her in treats for a while." He bows his head at Erendriel. "Names, Bildor Ironforge and that's Cinnabar."
Mikilos perks slightly at the word 'book', shifting direction to approach the digger and crowd. "Archmage Mikilos Mithralla, though I believe most of us have met." The digger being an obvious exception, to whom the elf extends a muddy hand for petting if desired.
Never one to turn down pets, the digger, yet again, ignored the veggies and bounds over to Mikilos for a muddy pet. "Archmage is an odd name." Says Bildor gruffly. Trying to be funny but likely just sounding grumpy. "We just arrived in the city and trying to get a feel of the place. SOmewhere to stay. A way to buy way too much food that she needs." He eyes the digger with a smile. "Find out what troubles there are here." He pauses as the kid approaches. "ALways trouble.
Erendriel is settled with the excited child, whi then trise to pat the digger. "Good to meet you Bildor," she nods as Cinnabar is now the center of attention. "So what's going on with you Mikilos?"
Mikilos grins. "After you blow up a few armies, they let you call yourself whatever you want." He considers a moment, and shrugs. "North of the city is an outpost for rangers, druids, and the like. Would be someone there with ideas on keeping a digger well fed." Turning to Erendriel, he shrugs. "Ceramics. Got a bunch of clay to start making pots. Seems fairly valuble to slamandars, as raw dirt is easy enough, but wet conditions to shape it are pretty uncommon."
"Not good at blowing anything up. I do my work more..personally. At the end of a lance." Bildor gives the digger a hard pat on the back. Good girl. "I'll have to go talk to them. See what they come up with." Cinnabar, lays down on the ground beside the child to offer a ride.
Erendriel smiles to Mikilos. "I finally learned how to talk to them by the way... now next time I won't feel silly." Then to Bildor "So they eat rocks? There aren't rocks everywhere?"
Mikilos grins. "Glad to hear it. Always nice to have someone to practice with." Shifting back to the common tongue, he shakes his head. 'Not all rocks are alike.' <ignan>
"What he said." Bildor points to Mikilos with a nod. "She can be picky too. Doesn't want to eat just anything." He nudges the bag that's remained untouched again. "We havn't been together long and I'm still figuring out what she likes."
Erendriel nods and looks at the digger. "Ohhhhhhh," she then says as she understands. "So different rocks taste differently. But are some rocks healthier too?"
Mikilos nods, and shrugs, not really a digger expert. "What brings you to Alexandros? Seems would be a call fro quality lancers most anywhere."
"Nothing specific. Been travelling for a while. Looking for a place that feels right." Bildor shrugs and the digger trots around with the kid on her back. "That's a good question. DOn't know if some are healthier than others. But they can eat so many different things." He shrugs and grabs the bag of veggies with a series of whistles. THe digger bounds over and laya again to let the child off. "We ned to get going. Nice to meet you." He waves and walks off, heading out of the market with Cinnabar following closely.
Erendriel waves to the departing Bildor AND Cinnabar, and any children who try to follow and admire! Leaving just Mikilos. "So yeah, I could totally understand what you said just then. I just... I wonder if I'll ever really NEED it, you know?"
Mikilos frowns mildly, and shrugs. "Need is always hard to be sure. I mean, something might be easier to understand, a monster saying it just wants to pass by that you elseiwse would need to fight, but such situations aren't all that common. It's nice to have a means of communication, but NEED? Hard to say."
Erendriel giggles. "You know you're right. I mean, what if I get the ability to um, to like summon them?"
Mikilos considers. "Elementals? I think most understand the caster anyway, but likely be able to give more detailed and accurate instruction in their own language."
Erendriel nods. "Well, I take your word for it on how the magic usually works. You've actually studied!"
Mikilos grins, and nods. "I know creating new spells takes a great deal of time and effort, getting the details right so it works in all situations. But when the magic in innate... I don't know how it goes about getting all the details right. Maybe it shifts on the fly? I've looked into it a little, but never came up with any solid answers."
