War Golem Toastmasters
Victor walks down the street a few buildings along from the (in)famous Adventurer's guild. He stops at the entryway to each and examines it quickly before moving on to the next. When he comes upon the Ox he spends longer studying it. But he turns away and continues.
It's been a quietish day, and at last, the contracted time has elapsed. A rotund Lucht with a fancy cane emerges from one of the smaller warehouses, where Toha stands by the doorway with her hands stacked atop her hammer and her chin lowered slightly to afford her countenance a bleak glower. He looks up to her and offers a small, jingly pouch and a thanks for her time. The construct claps a fist to her chest and bows her head with something affirming in reply before she accepts her payment. Transaction complete, she shoulders her hammer and the two part ways in time for her eyeslit to alight on her caped kinsman. To him, she lifts a hand with her typical, "Hey!"
Victor turns to face Toha, then nods. "Hello. It's good to see you." He turns back towards the building he had been looking at, giving it one last look before turning back to Toha. "Does the warehouse district engage many adventurers as guards? Perhaps that explains the location of the facility. Many other parts of the city seem more populated and well-travelled..."
"Not always, but often as I understand." Toha replies, stepping closer, "It's been a while, how've ya been keepin?" She stops by his side, meeting his gaze with her own the while, ready to match pace if need be.
Victor says, "I am well. I have learned much about the city's geography and inhabitants " He pauses and then turns to face Toha. "But not only through observation," he remarks. "I believe I would learn more if I were to speak with them. However I have been unable to prove my theory."
Toha cants her head a smidge, "Why is that?" she wonders, turning his way as well, "They getting skittish around ya?" She makes an obvious once-over of his figure, then, "Or... is talkin' to people a challenge?"
Victor considers. "Probably both," he finally decides. "Many times I find a conversation ending earlier than I had intended. It may be because of something I say. Or something I don't say." He turns towards Toha. "They was a well formed hypothesis," he notes. "Did something about my appearance, or my behavior lead you to it?"
A hmm, then, "I occaisionally encounter people who get a little unnerved by my face." Toha replies with a little shrug, "I'm also generally fully armed, though you tend not to be." A hand comes up to her face and she touches a knuckle to her 'lips', "If it's ending early, it... could be what yer sayin'. What kinds of things have ya tried talking about?"
Victor says, "I normally wait for others to speak. At times I ask for directions. When I first came to the city I would often encounter someone of a race or style of fighting or spellcasting I was unfamiliar with and would ask questions." He turns and looks at Toha. "You seem skilled at conversation. Is this something you studied?"
Toha hmm's again, "Do I?" she replies, then cants her head again, "Huh." She meets his gaze again and lowers her hand, "I was raised by Oruchs, and they tend to be direct in their personal dealings, most of the time. My tribe also had a lot of secrets, and a lot of my..." she fishes for a word, "...uh... youth-hood(?) was figuring out what was good to ask, and when. It wasn't a study as such, it mostly came from practice."
Victor mimics the head-cant. But he holds it a tad too long before speaking. He still hasn't got the hang of it. "You were raised by Oruch? How long did you spend with them?"
Toha nods, "They rescued me from a ritual..." from the tone of her voice, most would assume it was a bad one, "It's the first thing I recall clearly. I think, all told it's been about... maybe eight years."
Victor nods. "My earliest memory is coming to awareness amidst a gnome caravan. That was --" he pauses as he calculated, "--four years ago. I spent nearly three fourths of that time on solitafy duty as a guard. Perhaps I will also become a better conversationalist with practice."
Toha nods and reaches out to clasp his shoulder, "I'm sure ya will!" she replies affirmingly, "Yer a lot smarter'n me, probly, I just got more practice." She touches her knuckle to her lip again for a moment, then, "Talkin' for folks in the guild may be a good way t'get some good practice in. Ya trust someone who had yer back in a fight, right?"
