The journey north was treacherous and cold, but necessary as an entire country of wights north of bludgun presents a particular threat on this non-holiday. Deathwatch approaches. The trail Belladona has you on has been largely neglected by the savage people of that country. Game trails have seen you safe thus far.

Belladona is leading the way and she's for on her warm fur clothing. Samafa is beside her as they follows the game trail. The druidess has her claws out and shield ready as they lead the way.

Still several miles from the Dragonier border (where some of the floating land masses are visible in the distant sky), you all notice the foliage starting to turn black, as though a sickness is claiming this part of the woods. Lothos and Belladona suspect something unnatural in the blight and it seems to grow as you move further north.

Bennet is a far step form silent, being a fella wraped in metal and all, but he tries to keep quiet. Rifle in hand, the Absolution keeps a wary eye on the surroundings.

Lothos seems to be taking the trip in stride, undead, meh, he has faced undead before. The lion is handy too, maybe he should get a lion. He seems to be treating this almost as a vacation

Belladona hmms as she looks around as she feels something unnatural happening. She stops and kneels down to cast a spell on Samafa to protect her more. Her fur seems more bark-like before she looks back to continue on. She hmms, "Something unnatural even more so then our surroundings is up ahead."

GAME: Belladona casts Barkskin. Caster Level: 5 DC: 15

GAME: Lothos refreshes spells.

GAME: Lothos casts Mage Armor. Caster Level: 8 DC: 18

Lothos nods, "Yes, look nasty, somethings killing the ground, or sucking the life out of it. Whatever it is will likely be very nasty."

The game trail, never exactly being in a straight line, seems to veer west a bit, though it's clear the blight continues North where a larger 10' wide path is visible.

<OOC> Bahken says, "So, choice, follow the game trail or cross to the larger path?"

Bennet glances at the choices of paths, and to his companions. "Reckon best deal with whatever it is now, rather than when it's ready to come after us."

Belladona nods a little bit, "I would agree I think that we should go after it."

Lothos points at the blighted path, "Gotta kill it, or, well, rekill it if its undead."

As you switch paths, you notice the light of the day starting to fade. Though it's less than an hour, the evening approaches. It looks like the path leads to a hunting village of some kind.. and as you draw closer you hear the sounds of digging.

Bennet quirks a borw, glancing to the others, and keeps quiet. The Absolution is perhaps less bothered than he might be... around the Mourners, digging is a regular part of the day.

Lothos shrugs at the others, apparently usure what the sound is. So he moves along quietly, not speaking just yet.

Belladona hmms as she hears the digging and she looks around as they get closer to this hunting village.

At first one might mistake them for farmers, but no farmer's hand ever touched this savage soil, and each of you can tell the gleaming white in the darkening sun is the gleam of bone.'

Bennet grunts softly, and double checks his rifle is ready to fire.

Lothos shakes his head, "Um, I think its skeletons, maybe digging up more of them? The village is burnt."

Belladona nods a little bit as she looks them over, "Yes but what are the digging and why?" She asks as she takes out her club.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Anyone moving closer?"

<OOC> Bennet will continue towards them until either have a clear view, they do something else, or am in 40 feet. Or am stopped...

As you draw closer it becomes more clear that the skeletons are infact digging up bones for the most part, occasionally they seem to find some treasure but that they toss aside in favore of the bones which they stack in piles beside them.. Oddly, though they should be aware of the group approaching along the path they continue to dig, carrying out their single task.

<OOC> Lothos says, "So basicly the scene from Army of Darkness when the skeletons dig up more skeletons :)"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Yeah, though the bones they're digging up are most definitely not alive and unlike army of darkness these skeletons don't think.. they just follow instructions."

Bennet stops about 40 feet away, and leevls his rifle. "Unless ya'll got a better idea, this is gonna be loud..." Isn't called a ThunderBelcher for nothing... though this one is a sleek custom job...

Belladona nods, "Definitely Ogre skeletons. We need to be careful." She looks over towards Bennet, "Indeed we have to stop them from making more."

Bennet nods. "Noise'll likely attract whatever's makin 'em. Keep yer eyes peeled." Battle plan established, he fires.

<OOC> Bennet says, "At 40 feet, Thunderbelcher counts as a touch attack. Is a Lawful weapon, Undead Bane."

Lothos cracks his knuckles, "Alright, lets destroy some skeletons."

Ka-DOOM! Alchemic thunder rolls, and a bit of shot slams into the skeleton. For a brief instant, grey light shines, pulling, trying to draw the departed to their final judgement.

As the gun explodes... the digging continues. The Skeleton that was shot is gone but the others continue digging. There are seven skeletons left here on the outskirts of the village.

Belladona and Samafa charge into the fray and they use their weapons to destroy the skeletons easily. Belladona looks around for more skeletons."

The remaining five skeletons are aware they're being attacked.. to the extent their aware of anything.. to the extent they care... they continue to dig. Single-minded purpose, no sense of self preservation, they shatter loudly under the force of club and claw.

Lothos looks around, frowning. He doesn't really seem to think the skeletons are a huge threat, so he assumes there may be something worse....and he waits for it.

You paged Lothos with 'Some four hundred feet ahead inside the village amongst burned buildings and literally piles of large bones is a blackened altar and what looks like two men on either side and an ogre. Two more ogres stand behind the burned shells of buildings... On the blackened altar which takes up 20' is another pile of bones.. and one of the men seems to be... praying.. no wait he's casting spells.. probably things to strengthen himself and his allies against you as you waste your time against the skeletons.'

Bennet mutters a few phrases a man of the Gods likely isn't supposed to say, grabbing a slim tool from his belt. Glancing over the rifle, the Absolution pops out the acceleration crystal with the dexterious motion, wipeing off the excess powered, and popping it back into place... only to fumble, the crystal nearly flying out of Bennet's hands. Muttering again, he carefully places the crystal back in place before snapping the chamber closed. Sighing in annoyance, he glances to Lothos and nods.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Kay, 400' and some not small piles of bones in the way.. mad dash? Anything to avoid difficult terrain?"

Belladona looks up and she nods, 'All right." She heads towards the town and looks back, "Samafa come." The lioness heads after the druidess.

<OOC> Belladona says, "I think I do"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Thinks you have something for forests.. but I'm not sure about bone piles"

<OOC> Bahken says, "But I'll need both your movements."

<OOC> Belladona says, "Mine is 30' Samafa is is 40', but she won't go past me. If I can possible move off into the forest to move faster I will."

<OOC> Bahken says, "It won't save you time as you'd move roundabout.. Give me an acrobatics check and I might say you jumped the bone piles"

<OOC> Bahken says, "Samafa likely doesn't need one, cause she'd just lose the speed she has over you"

Bennet is a servant of Death. He has personally spoken with the Dread Lady. He does not -do- 'fear'. ...however, being picked up by flying magic hair is... distinctly disconcerting.

The foxes cluster between Belladona, Samafa and Bennet. The heat broiling all three and if they explode.. well.. the fiery critters don't seem to mind the fiery explosion at all. The Priest roars as he forces his way out of the tentacle mass.. aided by a spell he cast earlier while you were fighting skeletons.. He moves out and around the outside of the tentacle area, seething.

The remaining ogre zombies who move surprisingly quickly for the dead set to work rather effectively on Bennet and Samafa, The lion crumbling under the blow as Bennet is noticably buffeted.

Bennet glares at the retreating caster, but his focus needs to stay more local. the Absolution starts to turn to the closest ogre, only to be reminded by the flickering flames of the closer danger. A quick shot puts an end to that trouble... and an end to a few more eyebrows....

Belladona moves back away from the Ogre Zombies as she does not want them crashing into her as she casts produce flame. Some flames under her control spring up from her hand.

Bennet's Ogre bursts free and steps closer menacingly as the other remains struggling against the ropey vines of silk around it's legs.

Lothos makes a choice, casting a spell and doubling back he lashes out with his hair and lightning shoots into the Ogre that approaches Bennet. It leaves the monster smouldering.

Lothos, understanding that if he persued would directly confront the enemy spell caster in the air with limited support.. and geez is that lion dead? He chooses to help heal Samafa.

Bennet grumbles darkly, peering after the priest. He takes aim, his eyes turning a slate grey as he lines up the shot, but the round goes wide, wizzing past the priest. "I -said- we ain't done!"

Maybe it was that last shot that whizzed by his head, but the man doesn't stumble this time as he runs, up into the clouds, and into the darkness of the night. Considering how many bones this place has.. All seemingly ready to be turned into a rather Large army (both figurative and literal), the party can certainly claim this was a successful mission.

Bennet squints at the sky for several long moments and grumbles, relaxing a little. "Damn it all... ah well. Spoilt his plans, anyway. Reckon we best set this place to rights, maybe set down rest of them diggers saw on the way in."

Belladona finishes her summoning spell and a large dire bat appears in the air. Bellasona points the way that the priest went and the bat takes off after it.

<OOC> Bahken says, "Hey paladin, got any holy spells to deal with how corrupted this area is?"

<OOC> Bennet says, ".....Create water?"

<OOC> Bahken says, "On your spell list.. not readied atm..."

<OOC> Bahken says, "I think produce fire and a hammer might be more useful :P"

The remaining skeletons are easily dispatched. The bat never returns, one can hope it did its job and if nothing else gave the retreating priest some hell. It takes some work to make sure the Death priest can't continue his work, but Lothos has a few ideas and Bennet has a few of his own. But without a cleric the work's a little more dirty than usual.. but effective nonetheless, and with some tender loving care, Samafa makes a full recovery
