Types of Actions in Pathfinder
Action | Per Round | Examples |
Free | 1-3 | Brief actions: yell a few words, drop a weapon; total actually depends on DM and horse sense |
Move | 1 | Has two subtypes: 5' step or normal move |
Standard | 1 | A single attack, use of an ability, casting most spells |
Swift | 1 | Initiate smite, start rage--an action not quite fast enough to be 'free' but quick nonetheless |
Full Attack | 1 | When using FA, you may only take 1 swift action, 1 move (5' step), and as many free actions as the DM allows; you may not take a standard action or a move (normal move) |
Questions About Specific Actions, Maneuvers
Feat | Usable with Full Attack? | Common Questions |
Vital Strike | No | Cannot be used on a charge or combined with Spring Attack |
Sunder | Yes | Clarified in Paizo FAQ |
Disarm | Yes | |
Grapple | No | With Greater Grapple, maintaining a grapple is a move action |
Bull Rush | No | May be used as part of a charge |
Overrun | No | |
Trip | Yes | You may trip with any weapon; the trip property just allows you to drop the weapon and avoid being tripped, yourself |
Two Weapon Fighting | Yes | Only usable as part of a full attack; without the use of cleave or a similar feat, a character is limited to one attack unless using the full attack action |
