In the wake of the original Artificers, not all of their arts have been lost, and indeed some have recently been rediscovered. Amongst Charn's borders, there are several sources looking into the skills with which the Artificers used to manipulate certain races, changing their properties, merging some, or creating all new ones. The Trygon is the end result of one such series of experiments at reviving these old skills. A culmination of research crossing some twenty years or so, involved the quiet gathering of multiple Drakes for experimentation within their walls. It's unknown how many failures they had in their attempts to cross the different coloring variations, but the end result was a mixture of a grand success with disturbing side effects.

The success of the venture was that Charn -had- succeeded in creating an incredibly powerful monster similar to the Drake. Still of dragon blood, it shared the properties of three elements simultaneously, its breath attack being of these three elements, and possessing an incredible resilience to all three of those elements as well. Coupled with the natural, draconic resistance to magic inherent in its blood and that alone could have made it a terrifying beast. Strangely enough, the new hybrid also gained wings, something that drakes do not possess, but some suspect is still inherent in their dragon bloodline, somewhere further back along their ancestry. The 'Trygon' as the beast came to be known (tri-element Dragon) was also larger and heavier again than a Drake, and much stronger and tougher as well.

The Trygon's demeanor is so violent and erratic that at all times they have to be kept confined, and chained down until the very moment they are ready to be released, and even then only recaptured at great effort. Nevertheless, in the end these 'advantages' have been overlooked in some cases, simply for the sheer potential of carnage the monsters are capable of, easily drawing attention from some other important goal that must be taken care off.
