Log Info

  • Title: Ectra Returns
  • Emitter: Delilah
  • Characters: Delilah, Donna, Ashes, Elyanna
  • Place: Underground: Magus Ectra Na'Garra's Manse, The Lab
  • Time: Monday, August 09, 2021, 8:43 PM
  • Summary: Lerethil, who has actively betrayed the party by pushing Delilah into the mirror and withholding information is suddenly full of it. She advises all sorts of things, mostly running, as Ectra appears. Donna attempts to shove her in, while Ashes attempts to set Ectra's library on fire using a Lightning Bolt. The statue-podium comes even more to life, casting a globe of invulnerability. Ashes goes full Merek, vomiting a swarm of bees on friends and foes alike, nauseating all, and giving her the opportunity to summon a Lantern Archon. Ectra demands they stand down, while Donna and Elyanna struggle to determine a way to attack the Illithid while she's in the swarm. There will be Light Crossbows under the Yuletide tree this year. Ectra is prevented from casting, and held in place by Ash's web, corpses deserve spiders. Elyanna drops maidenhead, and is dominated, and attempts to kill Ash, and fails. Donna smashes up random lab equipment, which allows Ectra to activate the zombies and skeletons in their tubes, adding more combatants to the field. While the Lerethil gang currently has the upper hand, it is two casters against one and the front line fighters are unable to get out in front. It's not looking good.

In Ectra's Laboratory, a crisis is brewing. Delilah is trapped inside the full-size, magic mirror that Lerethil pushed her into, and though no sound is getting out it's clear she's becoming more and more frantic about the fact that Ectra is, in fact, in there with her. The Illithid has takn up a position beside her, crowding her way into the narrow space alongside the golden sorceress, standing with her arms crossed and watching the heroes.

Lerethil, meanwhile, is busy protesting what the rest of the party is up to -- namely frog marching her towards the mirror. "It's not going to work anyway," she points out in a hurry. "I don't think it works like that. I'm *certain* it doesn't work like that, what you're doing right now is wasting your time when what you *should* be doing is running away before Ectra gets out. Honestly, I don't think you're getting her back again -- not unless you find some way to sweet-talk Ectra. I mean, you could beg for mercy, she's been known to give it from time to time? I guess not to Reginald though. But you never know unless you try."

"You're certain of a hell of a lot all of a sudden," Donna growls, one steel-cable arm cinching tight on Lerethil's, eyes on her twin... pausing only to shoot a look filled with pure bloody hate at Ectra. "Seems to me as if you knew this thing was here, you coulda warned us instead'a playin' in your junk pile. So... now's a *real good time* to work out what's worth your *fucking life.*"

"We aren't listening to advice from betrayers." Ashes says calmly, in flat monotone, holding onto Lerethil as a backup to Donna. She stares at Ectra in the mirror, "One in, one out, and some order. She may need to come out first before Lerethil can go in."

"Please handle her." Ashes lets go. Facing Ectra she points at the library. All those books, just across the way. She very slowly, very deliberately, starts casting a Lightning Bolt spell. She just about spells it out, "Li..ght..nin..ng Boo..lt."

Slowly enough the Illithid could leap out to stop her, if she doesn't want to see whether lightning beats paper.

"Consider this an object lesson about forming pacts at crossed purposes." Elyanna replies coolly as she continues to lead the way to the mirror.

With the sudden initiative taken by Ashes, her direct impulses are curtailed in lieu of seizing the perfidious merchant with her fanglike punch dagger come out to emphasize her point.

In response to Ashes' casting of Lightning Bolt, Ectra doesn't immediately react; but the statue that serves as a lectern does, snatching a book off of the shelves and ripping out a single page. It reads hurriedly from the page, which disintegrates in her hand; when the lightning bolt hits, it scatters around an invisible globe around the books, with the statue inside looking particularly triumphant.

That is not to say that the action did not get Ectra's attention, however. The Illithid's eyes lock onto the Mourner and narrow to slits. She glares, then puts one hand on the Delilah's back, between her shoulderblades, and pushes her face-first up against the glass; the sorceress' eyes widen and she claws at the glass before sinking down to her knees and crumpling at Ectra's feet. The Illithid's hand flickers with electricity as she pulls it away, and looks back up at the assembled party.

With her hand still arcing, she pushes it forwards, the glass of the mirror first stretching and then parting around her arm as she pushes her way through, then grasps the hole with her other hand and widens it, until she's able to step all the way to the other side.

Upon arriving, Ectra takes a deep breath; she lets it out slowly, as she runs her hands over her head and shoulders.

"Much better," she declares. "Ectra has returned."

"And Ectra can turn her squiddly ass right back around and *give me back my fucking sister,*" Donna snarls, through gritted teeth, "before I decide it'd be a good use of my next six weeks to do nothin' but punch you in the soft bits, over an' over. An' you gotta *lot* of soft bits. So before you get too comfy, you wanna be sure you're okay with my new vision of the future; a fist stamping on a squid chest, *forever.*"

GAME: Ashes casts Vomit Swarm. Caster Level: 10 DC: 16

Ashes stares right back at Ectra. She is not intimidated, and she is moved to acts she wouldn't normally do. She steps back, hiccups. Her chest heaves, swells as if she's inhaling, except no breath is drawn in.

Her makeup today included a happy bee, crawling around underneath her left eye socket.

There's an angry wasp, crawling out of her mouth, which opens wide, wider, impossibly wide as the air fills with a loud buzzing. "HuaaaaaAAAHHHHHHH!" Then wasps.

The Mourner vomits forth a wide cone of yellow-jackets that fill the air, surrounding Ectra. Stinging. The volume of them will also catch Donna, Lerethil and Elyanna, if they're close. They'll be stung too.

Unfortunate, but dead meat often draws vermin predators like these, and Ectra shouldn't miss out on the experience.

One person throws up, everyone tries not to follow suit. And fails. Everyone is vomiting. Regular vomit, not wasps.

Ectra is about to say something, when Ashes preempts her with a horrible mouthful of wasps, that just... keeps on coming, until the cloud is thick and surrounds, well, everyone. The Illithid snarls as she's bitten and stung, visibly choking back a wave of nausea that affects even her, by some twist; and yet she still manages to look stately as she retreats, backing up in the direction of her library. "Prepare to kill them, slave," she snarls over her shoulder, "If they should act this way again."

The Illithid sucks in her breath, and tilts her head to one side until the vertebrae pop. "You might be an inconvenience, little goblinoid, but I assure you that is ALL you are. Stop misbehaving before I lose my patience."

Ashes simply glares back at the upjumped slug. She has no words for her. She does have words though, a prayer to the Grey Lady, "Feiu of the Tears, send something to light our way."

She trace symbols in the air, touches the holy symbol on her breastplate. It's getting elaborate.

While she's doing this, the swarm follows the Illithid. The wasps continue to sting, crawl over everything trapped within the cloud. The Mourner has afflicted her friends, and in this moment perhaps, understands some of the cards she read regarding her ex-boyfriend. She still follows him down the path, now recklessly endangering others.

Lerethil has fallen, her body developing boils from the many stings. A cloud of killer wasps is hard to handle, but it was meant for her mistress.

Hornets from the southeastern corner of Bludgun; about the size of a Jotun's thumb with all the group defense instincts of the local products, and none of the sense of humor.

Elyanna, engulfed in eloquently effective emesis, snarls out several utterly vile goblin curses (the Return of Zazzlesplat) as she is beset by unfriendly fire, doing the 'get'emoff-get'emoff!'dance in the doing.

As Ectra's withdrawl pulls the hateful swarm away from them, the Keeper, somewhat redder in many places, with the start of a certain characteristing bumpiness to her skin, moves to follow, but her wrist flick to ensnare the unrightly living illithid's ankle ends with Maidenhead escaping the hobkin's slightly tremorous grasp.

The wasps were horrifying, but Donna is far too locked in on her sister brought near death on the other side of the mirror to do more than absently swat at the things. Once the cloud passes -- leaving the brawler's face a good deal more swollen than it was to begin with -- Donna turns, regarding the Illithid with a truly poisonous glare. "Give her back," she says, as pale-blue fire explodes from ghostly runes and eyes. "Give me back my sister, and you never hafta be annoyed by us again. Fuck, we'll even get the bitch who strangled you an' you don't gotta lift a finger."

Her magic *sticks* to the floor as she moves, her slow, deliberate pacing made unnaturally jerky and quick by the enchantment parting time to ease her way. As she nears the edge of the bridge, the brawler explodes into motion, one arm turning to rubber one again, and launching forward to take the creature's feet out from under it. "I SAID GIVE HER BACK!!"

"MISTRESS!" The statue snatches a tome off of the shelves beside it, and flips hurriedly through the page until it finds what it wants; the page is torn free and the book held in one hand as the page is read from the other. Arcane sigils fly in the air around the automaton, befor a greenish, horrid smelling cloud bursts into the air around Ashes, engulfing Elyanna and Donna in the process.

It really is horrible; the sewers smell sweet by comparison. Holding ones' nose might be a plan. And whatever you do, don't open your mouth.

<OOC> Delilah says, "Ectra casts Dominate Person on you."

Ectra finds herself in the most undignified position of being flat on her face; a fall that bruises her ego more than anything else, but that in itself is bad enough. The Illithid hisses menacingly, as she pulls herself back up to her feet. "Slave, protect me," she snarls. "Awaken the subjects." She rolls back her sleeves as she speaks, and her tentacles writhe as she utters arcane words of her own, pointing one finger towards Elyanna.

Indeed, the Keeper will feel the fog of obedience cloud over her mind; what Ectra says is law. What Ectra commands is to be obeyed. The world shrinks until all that matters, it seems, is what Ectra wishes to be accomplished. And the command is given; three succinct, terrible words.

"Kill your friend."

Ashes inhaled just before the stinking cloud hit. Her chest lurches, it's not another wasp swarm, but she is in danger of vomiting something up. Holding her breath, she picks a side and rushes over, barely getting out of the cloud.

She's near the mirror, with imprisoned Delilah.

Her summon appears, a Lantern Archon, which is a strange geometrical butterfly outsider of sorts. Good, lawful, it's ostensibly Vardama's, making it's light a very odd grey. It flies on silvery wings, moving with otherwordly grace and preternatural silence. Two beams of light shoot out towards Ectra, one striking the Ilithid.

"Feiu of the Tears, corpses deserve cobwebs," The Mourner prays. Nearly invisible strands appear, from ghostly spiders, webbing up Ectra, the space between her and the library, and much of the statue and library itself as well.

The swarm of wasps is unaffected, darting in and out. Diminutive, evasive, they're crawling, stinging, biting. Some of their poison finally affecting the other caster.

She knew her place.

The Keeper's resolve, fatigued from the tribulations of the last few days, compromised by one too many stings, or... even the unconscionable stank invoked by the ornamentation... buckles under the focused attentions of the mind melting mollusk.

She learned her place.

At Ashes's throat.

To that end, forsaking the braided lash for the most customary executioners weapon of Bludgun she wears on her other hip, the red woman makes her way out of the cloud, reddened and swollen, with her falchion clutched in both hands as she rears back to makes a forceful swing in compliance to the dark directive.

She finds her place.

The assorted factors of the morning, lingering in the red woman's system must be to blame, or, perhaps some kernel of resistance of the woman's soul itself, trying to save her friend even as her body undergoes it's grim work. There is a clatter, the ring of steel skating along stone and a tangle of limbs sprawling against the reflective prison.

She found her place.

At Ashe's feet.
On her face.

The Globe of Invulnerability covers the statue and the whole library, and keeps people out. Ectra included. It makes a hole in the web.

Inside the lab is a lot of, well, lab equipment. Alchemical stuff, all manner of curiosities and jars full of specimens, and of course the large tanks that have complete bodies in them."

"...FINE," Donna roars, turning on her heel. "YOU DON'T WANNA GIVE HER BACK?! OKAY. FINE. COOL. SURE. COOL."

Every step takes her away from the webs, and the biting swarm, and the blasting point of light, and toward one of the larger tanks. "HEY YOU LIKE GAMES? I LOVE GAMES."

slam goes an armored, spiked, enchanted fist against the glass keeping the liquid around one of the whole bodies. "LET'S PLAY A GAME."

slam

"I CALL IT 'HOW MUCH OF YOUR SHIT CAN I BREAK BEFORE YOU *GIVE ME MY FUCKING SISTER BACK.*"

Donna does not seem to be taking this situation well at all.

"Yes, Mistress!" The statue snaps the book it holds shut, and slips it back into place on the shelves with a practiced hand. Now barehanded, it performs a series of gestures, and follows this up with a bellowed "AWAKEN! SERVE YOUR MISTRESS!"

And awaken they do. The skeleton laying on one of the work tables jerks, bones cracking audibly as it sits up, then rolls clumsily off the side of the table to crouch, and rise from its position. It grabs a bone saw, and turns to advance on Ashes -- or perhaps Elyanna. Hard to tell.

At the same time, the bodies inside the large, liquid filled tubes -- the very same ones that Donna is working hard to smash -- come alive as well, and start pounding their fists on the glass from inside. Glass that, on that one tube Donna has been working on, cracks and spiderwebs; that one in particular is not going to last long.

You are *nothing*. NOTHING!" Her tentacles coil as she spits the words of a spell, only to have it... fail to resolve, as the wasps sting her and the strands of webbing tug at her; the magic forms around her and then dissipates without effect, leaving the illithid to sputter and rage in a language long forgotten by most creatures of this world.

Ashlee stares at the tubes, and the bodies moving. She was worried about those, seems the fears were founded. She quickly prioritizes threats.

Fortunately, her swarm keeps crawling all over Ectra, buzzing, stinging, giving her something to think about, along with those webs.

She calls to her silvery butterfly, "when she casts, then attack." If she doesn't cast, well, perhaps it won't shoot but it will have delayed her another round.

The ashen Arvec doesn't bother replying to the Ilithid's taunts. It's unimportant noise. She's had enough of her ego and evil. Perhaps some wasp will crawl in and sting the inside of her mouth. She'd like that.

Elyanna, her friend, whom she knows now more than she expected, is trying to kill her. It's not her fault, unlike the duplicitous Lerethil, it's clear what was behind this betrayal.

A spell.

Ashes has spells too. Taking care, crouching back defensively with an eye on the falchion, she casts and reaches out to touch the red-hued hob-kin on the forehead, "Feiu of the Tears, save her from the slug that defies you. Bring her back to me."

"Marfhmfffnrhmm!" the Keeper mumbles agaisnt the silvered glass as she somewhat woozily tries to get to her feet. Her gauntleted hand tnk's and hisses against the enchanted silicate for purchase, but Elyanna does, in swift order, turn on her heel as she rises, the carmine digits of her bare hand tucked behind her leg as she forms the first of her invicative gestures. She'll work at reconciliation later, and words must be kept tight for the moment, or gratitude would surely follow. No, for the moment, the vengeful hobkin has her attention locked on Ectra for the first sign of incantation, her mind parsing one thought beneath them all. o O (Try that again, bitch.)

The clatter of bones latches on to Donna's focus. Her head whips around to see a skeleton, totterings its way toward her friends, and the mirror THAT HAS HER FUCKING SISTER TRAPPED IN IT.

"Okay, *no.*"

STOMP. STOMP. STOMP.

Placing herself between the skeleton and the hobkin, she sets her shoulders, and just *stomps* in its direction, implacable, unrelenting, shoving the skeletal minion back with nothing but leg strength and her armored chest.

Once she's judged that enough space has been bought, she reaches out to clamp one hand around the ivory dome of its skull, and her other hand rises and falls, in a looping overhead swing that shatters ribcage, spine, and scapula, leaving her holding the head and a bit of neck.

Turning in place, she uses the momentum to *hurl* the disembodied skull at the magical globe, loosing the helpless fury that wells up around her heart in an animalistic scream.

"FUCKING."

"GIVE. HER. *BACK!*"

<OOC> Ashes says, "Okay, "So, Ectra was entangled by the web, and affected by a poison. The swarm is still on her. The Lantern Archon and Elyanna have readied actions to attack her if she casts. There's a Dominate Person and a Prot from Evil on Elyanna, there's a MCaE on Donna with a 10' radius. The web is covering the bridge and the library bits that aren't covered by the Globe of Invulnerability, Elyanna is at 22/44, Donna is at 34/61. I've used 4 of 5 channels.""
<OOC> Delilah Forgot about the stinking cloud actually.

<OOC> Elyanna says, "i have spells, but i'm out of charmed life. i seem to have 2/3 panache for reasons i can't verify, and i have 4 rounds of bardic inspiration still available"
<OOC> Elyanna says, "oh, and maidenhead is somewhere on the floor where the stink cloud was"
<OOC> Ashes says, "Swarm lasts another 7 rounds, the lantern Archon another 8, we're at the end of round 3"

<OOC> Ashes says, "i'm above level 7. So wasps. https://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/vermin/bees-and-wasps/wasp/wasp-swarm/ swarms are known for occupying a space, doing auto damage, and this one does poison."
<OOC> Ashes says, "2d6, plus poison, poison is: save Fort DC 13; frequency 1/round for 4 rounds; effect 1 Dexterity damage; cure 1 save. The save DC is Constitution-based. Also, distraction, DC13 to avoid being nauseated for 1 round, and there's also an automatic distraction DC20+ level of spell, for casting in a swarm. I think she gets and AOO for them moving into her space."
<OOC> Ashes says, "and... this may affect Donna, Elyanna, Lerethial if you're in the 10' space the swarm occupies"
<OOC> Donna says, "Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move action per turn."
<OOC> Ashes says, "which is the other distraction it does, so helpful they used the same name for 2 different things"
<OOC> Delilah says, "She already made her distraction save against the wasps on your turn?"
<OOC> Ashes says, "Yes. There's a separate swarm trait, for trying to cast in it, that requires you do a concentration check which is the DC20+Spell Level"
<OOC> Ashes says, "Swarms possess the distraction ability. Spellcasting or concentrating on spells within the area of a swarm requires a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). Using skills that involve patience and concentration requires a DC 20 Will save."
<OOC> Ashes says, "so it has distraction-naseua which is special because it's wasps, and distraction-spellcasting, because it's a swarm"

<OOC> Ashes says, "so, on my turn, I'd like to start another summons, while the swarm (hopefully) keeps Ectra occupied. this will be a full round cast, so she could interrupt me, but the critter arrives next turn"
<OOC> Ashes says, "damage, saves, poison, would be the same. everyone that failed a poison save, would both have to save for the existing poison they got last round, and again for poison this round, I think, Donna?"

<OOC> Ashes says, "once again, sorry to lay it on with the summons, but I am done with Ectra and I have 5 more of these. weaker versions"
<OOC> Ashes says, "I asked Donna about a rule. I'd like to cast web, centred on the statue and library with Ectra at the edge. It's a 20' dome, so larger than a 10' globe of invulnerability, I believe, unless the dome encompasses the library, in which case I'd still want it on Ectra and as much of the space between her and it as a possible. Donna informs that the wasp swarm won't be affected by the web, so they'll still crawl over Ectra, poison and distract her for... another 8 rounds."
