View source for Dropping in for a Bite

Gray and chill. Not to mention windy upon the mountain. The home along the road is shelter from wind and cold, yet not from gray. Rather, it is shelter -for- gray. Covered in cloak and gloves, Verna is currently on the portico, sweeping off the latest fallen or wind-blown snow from said portico.

Coming down from the Mountain side-

Wait, no, FALLING DOWN the mountainside is a grey and green blur. It's hard to process what it is before they land on both feet with a >THUD<, blue boots glimmering briefly before the effect fades, a dirt and dust covered mul'neissa woman rising and wiping her face off. There's a pause. Then a heavy sneeze. A plume of dust wafts off of her.

Bringing their attention away from themselves, she looks across the way before raising a tape covered and filthy hand to wave.

Verna does not notice the one confirming gravity until the sudden impact. Which causes her to drop her broom, leap nearly out of her boots, whirl around, and more. In no particular order. Hood fallen in the startle, Verna peers at Aryia and continues to for long moments even after recognition is apparent. "Good day. You appear to have been hard at work. Would you care for refreshment?"

Aryia blinks, grins, then bobs her head, ambling up to the house and the front porch. "Fuck yes. I'll take whatever you got. I was just punching more rocks. I'm running out of room in the quarry. How are you?" <Handpseech>

The mute flops down into a chair, her removing her green jacket and giving it a thwap, plumes of dust wafting from it as she tries to clean it.

Verna nods. "I will return momentarily." She enters the house proper, warmth briefly exiting along with smells of freshly baked goods. Her return is surprisingly swift and she bears a platter which holds numerous small pies: some with meat filling and others with fruit. This is set upon the table.

"It is good to see you. Please, help yourself as they are plentiful. I had a recent surge in culinary practice."

Aryia's brow raise up, her reaching out once Verna returns to scoop up a small pie. One with meat, one with fruit. A big bite is about to be taken, but she pauses. "... you made this? They smell... pretty good."

She takes a much more cautioned bite. Perhaps she has experience tasting someone else's learned cooking. <Handspeech>

Verna dips her head in a nod. "I did," she gestures, now that her hands are free. "I assure you that they are non-poisonous and palatable." A pause. "Some may, however, be slightly overcooked. Opinoins are welcome, as I consider producing more for guests at the wedding celebration." <handspeech>

Aryia tilts her head at the taste. Puts one down, bites another, a fruit one. A moment to appraise. "This one-" she points to the meat pie. "Needs more savory, but the other is good. Maybe a bit hard. But both better than I can make," she offers in criticism.

She also criticizes by chomping down on both of them in post-workout hunger. "These will be good for the wedding. I saw it in the paper! Going to be held here then? <HAndspeech>

"Your response is noted," Verna acknowledges aloud. "I shall keep it in mind. Yes, the celebration shall be in Alexandria. Rather, one of the events shall be. There shall yet be a somewhat more private ceremony in Llyranost, but Auranar did not wish to exclude any of our friends and allies here. Not all are readily able to travel so far on such short notice. I would be most delighted if you could attend one or both."

"I'll be sure to attend the one here, and look fucking fabulous while I'm at it," Aryia signs, thumbing her nose. "But I won't go to the Llyranost one, sorry. I'd have to be held back from kicking multiple people in the nethers."

More monching, and the rest of the two pies she scooped up are gone. "I'm glad for the change, you'll have a lot of friends show up. And, the good thing about a lot of friends showing up is very little can go wrong. Cor'lana and Telamon's ceremony was chock full of people that I would not want to fuck with." <Handspeech>

Verna starts to smile at Aryia's comment of fashion, though the remainder, which is similarly fitting for Aryia, twists it more to a smirk. "I expect that you shall be astonishing, and shall not hinder that with any need to strike anyone." At the hint of things going wrong (or not), however, her lips flatten. "I hope that there shall be no issues. All should be perfect. Auranar deserves no less." A pause and exhale. "The matters in llyranost may well be trial, enough. There appears to be some ill will amongst her family."

Aryia snorts, but shakes her head. "Nothing is perfect. It will have hiccups and goofs, and it will be made better for it."

She holds a finger up. "But I won't hit anyone. Unless they deserve it. But what is it back in Llyranost that you are worried about? Does someone need a reality slap?" <Handpseech>

Verna's lips purse; in concern, thought, or both. She even chooses to respond with gestures. "Her grandmother, the matriarch appears to have some distaste or distrust. After her parents were killed, Auranar was raised an orphan despite yet having extended family. They did not take her in then and even now seem distant."

Aryia blinks. Then scowls. "But why? They hardly know Auranar. If they've held a distant grudge, what shit does she have to prove? She's strong on her own, and even more so with you. The matriarch should respect that. The strongest roots grow when there is no soil to flourish at times." <Handspeech>

"I do not know her grandmother's bias, nor how far it extends," Verna admits. Her expression both brightens and firms after. "We go there because Auranar wishes to, not for any other. Her family's Curuchuil is there. Her lineage back perhaps hundreds or thousands of generations. Auranar was never given the opportunity to add herself to it as she ever wished to. It is of great importance to her. Now, she would add us both to her family."

Aryia scratches her head, making some rock dust waft down. "So... its not just you being added, but two people being added to the family at once."

She tilts her head back to the sky, fishing out her shades and donning them. "I guess I can understand the Matriarch's position. Two people want to be put into the sacred lineage. I guess you'll have to do some digging on the history to see where the grudge lies when you two get there." <Handspeech>

Verna nods. "If her bias is solely against me, I would more readily understand. Still, I will make every effort to appease. They would be my family, then, as well. I imagine that you would understand better than most, on all counts."

Aryia shrugs. "Appease, but don't be weak spined about it. Though, if I remember, Charn had a certain amount of ass kissing required. Subservience and all that bullshit."

She peers at Verna over her shades, glowing eyes cutting a glance with a brow raised. "Look, I think you'll be fine. Between Auranar and you, you both can squirm your way around to figuring out how to gain favor." <Handspeech>

Verna scowls at mention of Charn and subservience. "I left Charn behind. There is naught of me there, and naught of it within me. It has no bearing on matters in my mind."

Afterwards her countenance brightens and softens. "Thank you. I am anxious over the matter and wish to make the most favorable effort. You are correct, of course; there is nothing that Auranar and I cannot accomplish together."

Aryia shrugs. "Me too. My parents too. I'm just saying, don't bend over backwards. While you want to gain their favor, they have to respect you."

She shoots a thumbs up, rising to her feet and yoinking one of the small pies. "What did I say: fuck it. If it's out of your control, don't fret. You can do the research, and Auranar can sweet talk it out of the Matriarch." <Handspeech>

"Wise advice it is, certainly," Verna agrees. "I endeavor to follow it, though it is oft difficult to do so. As one who ever seeks knowledge, I am most disinclined to ignore concerns and not fret. Thank you again for your feedback on the pies. As well, please, take as many as you wish. The remaining few dozens shall likely be donated as we cannot consume them all."

Aryia glances to Verna. Leans down, and scoops up a handful more of the small pies with one being bitten to hold onto. "If I had more hands," a free hand motions, "I'd take and eat them all. But I cannot."

One is quickly consumed to add just ooone more. "It's its hard to learn how to ignore concerns. But after a certain age, it's not worth the energy. Thanks for the food and the chat. I'm going home. See you around."

Waving a pie, Aryia hops up onto the railing, gives a little salute, then hops off to plunge in the city below.

She'll be fine.
