  • Summary: Oh my, up in the sky! It's a bird, It's an airship! No! It's Rameriez! Who is a bird-horse, important distinction. The hippogryph is gliding in from higher up on the mountain to land at the Temple of Angoron. A wrestling competition is finishing up, Thurid is present and joined by Aryia. The Jotun reminds the pair they challenged her to a wrestling match, and the Lucht and the Mul'niessa get prepared. Paenitia swaps some of her gear for padded versions, and a leather Smiling Man mask. The two rush Thurid, Paenitia setting up to trip her and Aryia providing the umph and leverage, and they manage to bring her down. Groundwork becomes key, with Thurid fighting off Paenitia and Aryia who are working together to pin her, using distractions and choke holds. Thurid concentrates on Aryia, who is difficult to hold, while Paenitia keeps making distractions. Finally, Aryia is able to pin back both of the Jotun's arms, and she taps out. A victory celebration is proposed, drinks followed by a bath at the TarRace, which the Red Knight gladly accepts the former, but declines to bathe, explaining that she would reveal she is an empty shell.

Immense. Grand. The temple of Angoron encompasses all of these and yet surpasses them. Built into the mountain itself and yet left open to the sky, this immense place is structured as though by a massive hand. The three-quarter wall is composed of massive stone, carved so that it arcs upwards. The fourth wall and much of the ceiling is left open to the elements, which no child of the Hero should fear.

Massive drums, painted with symbols of victory and battle, line the partially covered area. When played, which is often, their heavy sounds reverbate off the walls before soaring into the heavens. The pitch is low and massive, and though while certainly PRESENT, it is not overwhelming. It is merely, at all times, THERE.

In the midst of the grand cavern lies a firepit in front of an altar, a place for boasts, talks, and friendship. The altar is in the shape of the great Earthbreaker, carved as though just striking the earth, and the firepit was the result of it. The temple itself lies within sight of the Altheans, the two gods sharing a unique bond. During the birth of a child, prayers are often sent to the warrior god, for strength and perseverance to this, the first test of strength to come into the world.

The floor of the temple is simple. There is no marble, no grand carvings: sand fills the simple needs of the warrior. The massive stone walls are carved, though hewn is a better word, in warrior symbols of all tribes and cultures. Alexandria's multicultural heritage shines here, with symbols reaching from as far away as Dran, depicted.

It's hot this sunny afternoon, though clouds offer brief respite, the haze of the heat fills the air regardless. Thurid is here at the mountain's temple, as she often is. The afternoon demonstrations of wrestling by the temples acolytes have ended, and the crowd that oft gathers is dispersing. Thurid has been seeing to raking the sands back level after the matches, and is in her less formal clerical attire today, little more than a chestwrap and breechcloth in simple brown linen, which suits the warm weather well.

Some of the acolytes remain in the open area, sharing drinks and talking of their matches, winners and losers both engaging in jovial boasting.

For once, there wasn't much trepidation this time around when approaching the temples. Or when she srides into the halls of Angoron. Aryia, for the first time in a long while, felt like she had something prove. A purpose, one might daresay.

The scarred shadow elf scans the area of the departing crowd, an odd fire in her eyes and a 'go get 'em' energy to her. She spots Thurid, smirks to herself, and strides towards them with a wave.

Ramirez can fly! In Isobar, where there are thermal updrafts, unexpected air currents, and strong, persistent winds that a skilled aerialist such as he can navigate. In Alexandria it's a little more complicated, and usually involves climbing to a high place and jumping off.

Fortunately, the city is built into a mountain range, and there are roads and paths up it. Airstrip Alexandria is built in a place with exceptionally favourably currents. So, the little Lucht knight has been exploring with her mount and found a high spot.

And lept.

And had their first decent bit of real flying since coming to Alexandros, even if it is mostly gliding horizontal and down. Down to where they are going to need to land somewhere. The level sands of the Temple of Angoron seem just fine. He probably needs a visit from one of his best bud's Paladinas too.

"Ware below! We come in!" The Red Knight shouts, giggling afterwards. Her faithful Ivory Steed calls out his challenge, 'Ruaaaah!'

Thurid, about done with her duties, leans the rake up against a wall and wipes the sweat from her brow. She spies Aryia as she does this, and lifts a hand to offer a wave in return. "Hail, friend. How's the day find you?" she wonders. Before she can say aught else, though, she is interrupted by the unexpected voice from above. She lifts her gaze, shielding the sun from her eyes with the previously waving hand, and laughs as she spies its source. "Impressive!" she calls out to them.

The crowd disperses a touch more quickly from the sands, and a couple of Acolytes hop up from their seats, moving aside to allow the spectacular animal and his earstwhile rider room to set down- scuffing up the sands Thurid so recently leveled. Though, she seems not to mind.

Aryia gives a crisp thumbs up at the question, though her asking it back was interrupted by the noble Ramirez swooping in. She follows Thurid's gaze upwards, only to be met face first with the sun. Blinded, briefly, she staggers out of the way and rubs at her eyes while giving a wave towards where she thinks the duo landed.

The peacock-andalusian's albescent feathers gleam brilliantly in the sun, his crimson seeming even more bright. The large beast lands with a spray of sand and another horse-powered squawk that echoes off the temple walls. One that says, I am here, see me, I am magnificent. Unwilling to pass up the attention of a crowd, and seemingly aware that he has some, the hippogryph begins to dance and spread his tail out in a tremondous white fan. The feathers are large and hollow enough to sound like castanettes, rattling as he shakes them, accompanied by the hiss of their vanes.

The Red Knight sits tall, holding her lance erect with the little red flag, gazing at the spectators with her grinning mask. She seems almost a furnishing, less his rider. During one rotation she calls to Thurid and Aryia, "Soon! I will be on the ground. Ramirez must dance, he is very happy from the flying."

Thurid laughs once more at the display, and a few of the departing crowd stop to watch it also, one or two offering claps and laughs of surprise of their own. Thurid pushes off from the wall where she had been resting, and takes a few steps over towards the dancing peacock. "Can't say I was expecting that, today." she admits cheerily, keeping clear enough to avoid being struck by strutting tail feathers.

'Ruaaaahh! RUUUAAAAHH!' Ramirez finishes his second rotation and calls out his final challenge. Paenitia strokes his neck, cooing softly and telling him how wonderful he is. "You have won! None come to challenge. You are the king of sand."

The king is very proud. She lets him enjoy his victory a little longer, then pats at his rump. "Ramirez! I dismount."

He extends a wing, the Red Knight slides down it to land and then walks over towards Thurid and Aryia. "Hola my friends. The sun is bright. I see the contests when we glide overhead, but do not interrupt them. They are finished?"

"The day finds you well, I trust?" Thurid greets to Paenitia, now that the display is done and she's freer to talk without becoming dizzy. She glances between the two of them, and a smile creeps onto her face. "They are." She answers the question, "Though..." she glances between the two of them, a smile creeping onto her features. "I recall we spoke of a contest of our own, not too long ago, did we not?" she wonders.

Aryia gives the king his space to prance. She began to understand a bit more why the hippogryph deserved a fancy outfit. For they were a fancy lad.

The prospect is greeted with a sharp nod and a bow of the head, Aryia punching a fist into a palm and cracking her knuckles.

"Ah, you wish the contest still?" Paenitia asks, sounding very cheerful and matching the wild grin of her mask. "I get ready then."

The Red Knight takes a few steps back to her mount and takes a few things off the saddle. The Ivory hippogryph remains vigilant, his head high and flitting attention. He partially unfolds his wing to shield the Lucht. Facing his side, she takes off her hat and metal mask, and pulls on a leather one. It has a thick strap along the top of her head and the back of her skull, two openings that she pulls her thick curls through. After, she trades her gauntlets for leather gloves, and takes off a few of the sharper pieces of her armour on the elbows and knees, and straps on padded version.

Returning, the leather mask completely covers her face, from hairline to throat. It's the same, wildly grinning stylized man. She flexes her fingers, settling the gloves, "I am ready."

Thurid nods her head once, and then she heads over towards the middle of the sands. She picks some up, and rubs her hands in the disty sand, before dropping it back down. "As am I." she offers, and she beckons for the two of them to come at her. "Now, I'm twice as tall as either of you, and I'd wager heavier than you both soaking wet. So you're like as not going to need to work together to bring me down." she says then, as she lowers her stance a bit, feet spreading apart, and hands held open and ready. "Come at me when you will."

Aryia rolls up her sleeves in preperation, more of the same scarring underneath with a corded leather pressing against her arms. She fishes around her pocket and takes out a silver ribbon, tying her hair up and out of the way as she joins in the center of the sands.

It felt strange, being in this spot. It felt familiar, but so different at the same time. Aryia eyes the knight, taking stock of the different armament she donned and gave her a nod.

This wasn't going to be easy, but maybe she could learn a thing or two. Fists up, light on the feet, head lowered. She lets the knight test the waters.

<OOC> Paenitia can roll her CMB, sure. Aid Another attempt, a setup
GAME: Paenitia rolls cmb: (5)+5: 10

"Ha!" Paenitia laughs, crouching so she's even closer to the ground. Her armour looks hot, layers, the breastplate and armoured kilt. Her feet are already dusted with sand and its spreading up into her fetlocks, "you should tell me about fighting things smaller! That, I do not know."

Well, she was overrun by rats once. The little knight charges to wrap herself around Thurid's shin, lock her knee and add weight to that foot. "I hold her for the trip! Aryia, push over now!"

GAME: Thurid rolls cmb: (8)+10: 18

Thurid laughs boistrously as Paenitia charges at her, "That's the spirit!" she calls out, barely moving as the Lucht latches onto her shin. It is like running into a tree- in sturdiness, and almost in girth and hardness at that, given her clear devotion to refining her physique. She reaches down, making an attempt to pry the Lucht off her with a shove at the shoulders, "Come at me as though I'm a beast you must bring down, I'll hold nothing back!" she calls out.

GAME: Aryia rolls CMB: (19)+5: 24

There it was, that little distraction. Aryia broke into a sprint to get around Thurid while she was prying the Lucht off, sand kicking up as she abruptly turns towards the giantborn. With a small gulp, she jumps, and plants both feet into the back of Thurid's knee. All push and no smash.

GAME: Thurid rolls cmb: (16)+10: 26
<OOC> Thurid says, "Er, -4 for being prone"
<OOC> Aryia says, "22. Versus... CMD 21, but has improved grapple. Oh my god that feat is coming in again"
<OOC> Aryia says, "just barely fails"
<OOC> Aryia will pose that near miss in after Paenitia

Thurid manages to pry the Lucht off, but she's too slow to react as Aryia jumps up and kicks into her knees, she drops to a knee, and then falls- breaking the fall with an arm outstretched. "Aha! Well struck!" she says as she falls, but she promptly rolls over- an arm coming up to grab ahold of Aryia's leg, her own legs coming around to attempt to pull her down and into a submission hold.

<OOC> Paenitia says, "hmm... well I guess try a straight CMB and see how that goes"
GAME: Paenitia rolls cmb: (13)+5: 18

Paenitia has not run into many trees. There are few in Isobar and the ones that are grow thin, thirsting for drink. She has run into mine support beams, and that is a fair comparison to Thurid's leg. Despite her hold, a shove to her shoulders pushes her off, but the distraction was enough. Support beams crumble, mines collapse, and the Jotun is brought down by the Mul'niessa's careful strike.

Down, but not out, as the two wrestlers are entangled once again with the submission hold. Paenitia, goes for one of her own, wrapping her arms around Thurid's neck and squeezing to choke her down. The Smiling Man leather mask is pressed right against her face, the Lucht's eyes wide behind it. "Ole!"

GAME: Aryia rolls CMB+2: (13)+5+2: 20

She did it. Aha! She did it! Actually managed to knock down Thuri-

"Haaa sh-" is the breathy sound she makes as her leg was held onto. Aryia drops low and twists around, breaking out before the grip could begin. It was like dodging claws of iron!

Two could play at that game. With the Lucht at the neck, Aryia went for an arm, trying to get it in a odd spot so that moving about would be too difficult.

<OOC> Thurid says, "Attempting to take control of the grapple"
GAME: Thurid rolls 10-4: (19)+10+-4: 25
<OOC> Aryia makes an 'ohno' face and is grabbed

As the lucht wraps her arms about Thurids neck, she lurches, and then throws her shoulders forwards, using the Luchts own grip to buck her forwards and off of her back. But as she's doing it, her arm is grabbed by the wiry Mul, and pulled back painfully. She grits her teeth, and breathes a brief laugh, "You two are better at this than you look." she taunts. She once again attempts to pivot her position, leaning into the grip to deprive it of leverage, and to claim back some of her own- the muscles in her back and upper arm swelling as she tries to pull it free of the grip, and Aryia down with it, so that Thurid can reverse the grip and lock her thighs around Aryia's middle.

<OOC> Paenitia says, "well, going for an Aid Another roll"
GAME: Paenitia rolls cmb: (13)+5: 18

"The Baron's men are all big. I skip the sand but will give you the kiss." Paenitia shouts happily, thrown off and bouncing back almost as quick to wrap her arms around Thurid's throat again. As she does, she leans in and kisses the Jotun's eyes.

Well, pushes against them with the leathery grin of the Smiling Man. Her mask doesn't actually have an opening for her lips.

It was a feint! Instead of squeezing like her earlier move, the Dark Lucht got her arms under one of Thurid's so she could lever it up. The hold on Aryia is loosened, to aid her escape and siezing control again.

<OOC> Aryia says, "gonna roll first to attempt to take control of grapple so I can see how to pose this"
GAME: Aryia rolls CMB+2+2: (19)+5+2+2: 28

She's doing it! Actually doing it! She allowed herself a grin as she started to lock the arm over her shoulder. But then the hyper extension soon didn't matter as the Mul was lifted up and twisted about to be grabbed in the midsection.

The elf puffs her cheeks out while flailing about in the grip. This was bad. Really bad. But she caught that little bit that Paenitia did and extropolated off of it.

You know what? Aryia could do the same. She manages to worm her way out of the grab and, using the assisted leverage, slid up and wrapped the back of her knee around Thurid's neck, her locking it in by holding her foot. They were small. They needed to work in small ways.

<OOC> Thurid says, "Rolling to escape grapple, and then stand from prone."
GAME: Thurid rolls cmb: (3)+10: 13
<OOC> Thurid failt.

Thurid grunts as the pair of them grab an arm each, leveraging them and driving her back down into the sand. She huffs, and the muscles of her shoulders flex, but to no avail- each of them hold her firmly, and she can't get any leverage to push herself up, as hard as she tries. It's like holding down a bull- a seemingly unsurmountable task, made possible as they work together and deny her the chance to regain her footing. She huffs a breath through gritted teeth, blowing some sand from her lips, and tries once again to begin to rise. And once again the pair of them drive her back down into the sand. If there were a ref, he'd be counting her out.

<OOC> Paenitia says, "well another aid another"
GAME: Paenitia rolls cmb: (1)+5: 6 (EPIC FAIL)

Paenitia moves to prevent Thurid from standing. Down the Jotun to her feet. It doesn't take much leverage to interfere with someone's footing, especially on sand. The first time Thurid plants her foot she simply sweeps it as weight it about to press down. The second time... she's booted. A foot almost as large as her whole breastplate kicks her back. Her efforts weren't much assistance beyond distraction, this time.

<OOC> Aryia says, "rolling to maintain and then apply Pinned"
GAME: Aryia rolls CMB+2+5: (18)+5+2+5: 30

Thurid was down. And Aryia had her with Paenitia's help. She just needs to grab an arm and shove it into the neck hold to lock the giantborn in. Aryia lifts herself slightly, a layer of sand caked onto her face from the sweat. But thuds back into the ground as the Lucht was punted off.

Aryia grits her teeth, grabs one of the large arms by the wrist, and wrenches it into position.

She twists, leg tightening around the neck, and gets the arm into the tangle of limbs, locking it.

The urge to cheer was there, but each time she didn, it followed up with a turn of the tide. So she remained focused on trying to keep the massive giant down.

GAME: Thurid rolls cmb-4: (6)+10+-4: 12

Thurid strains and struggles still, pinned as she is she can hardly move. Dislodging the Lucht gave her some slack, but slack that was promptly and expertly taken up by Aryia. Her face reddens as she struggles against the choker hold. She strains against it, but to no avail- all she manages to do is unpin one hand from beneath herself, and slap it against the sand- signalling her yield.

Aryia goes lax at the signal and falls back, tumbling back once and landing supine in the sand. She pants, squitning her eyes against the sun and dead tired from giving it her all.

"Ole! She tap yield. You may release, my friend." Paenitia says, coughing just a little. She really should get a ridge down the centre of her breastplate, to stop it getting slammed so hard against her chest.

Thurid rolls over onto her back as well, panting as she shields her own eyes from the sun overhead. She spits some sand from her mouth and brushes her hair back out off her eyes, "Well fought." she says after several heavy breaths, to clear the stars from her eyes after that excellent choker hold. "Both of you." she adds then. She pushes herself up into a sitting position on the sand, and lets out a belly laugh. "Truth be told, I'd thought to do the teaching, but you bested me soundly." she tells the pair of them.

Aryia raises a shaky hand to the air, fingers curling into a thumbs up before thudding back into the sand with. A moment longer, she sits up with a silent groan, a hand rubbing at her stomach where it felt like she was going to be snapped in two. Despite all of that, a faint, yet proud smile was on her lips.

Standing. Paenitia isn't as tall as Thurid sitting, even at her full height of three feet. Her leather mask is mildly more expressive than her metal one, the grin appears to get a little wider whenever she is smiling, as she appears to be doing now. "In truth, I do not know how it will go, but to think of failure is to invite him for drinks."

That said, she remains standing, breathing from the exertion. Satisfied.

Thurid puts a knuckle against the sands, and then pushes herself up to her feet. With hands on her hips, she tilts back and takes a couple of deep breaths to dispel the rush of diziness from standing up after being choked out, and then she reaches out a hand to offer to Aryia- to help her o her feet. Should she accept, she'll lift the Mul bodily up. "Aha, drinks are a fine idea." she says to Paenitia. "As the loser, I ought foot the bill. I've a mind to suggest the TarRaCe, we could soak our strained muscles, to boot." a glance at Paenitia, "Ah, though I suppose that would like as not be against your knightly oath?"

Aryia gladly takes the proffered hand and hops to her feet with the help. She staggers for a moment and shakes her head to clear it before smiling wider, flashing a few missing molars. The mention of the TarRaCe makes her raise her brows, as she bobs her head enthusiastically at the idea. She got to try the place once before, and now she was emboldened to go there once again.

She wipes at her face with a rolled down sleeve, cleaning the sand off.

"The drinks are a fine idea, the baths..." Paenitia's voice trails off and she looks aside. She laughs raucously, looking back with a wide grin. "They are too deep! I am not the fishy goblin owner to survive on the bottom. I most graciously decline. The armour, she will drown me, and with it off you will see I am empty shell."

Clearly she isn't, but her oaths or some other reason are keeping her from removing it. "I will keep company until the time you swim."

Thurid tilts her head to the side a bit, clearly reading a little more into the 'empty shell' comment, despite Paenitia attempting to pass it off as a joke, but she does not press, instead clapping the Lucht on the shoulder. "Well enough, then! I suspect they'd object to wearing armor in the pools, besides." she says and laughs. She calls over to an older man- older, but with dense muscles that defy the aging process, despite his silvery hair and beard, "I take my leave for the evening, Warrior Lukas!" he offers her a nod of his head, before Thurid starts towards the exit.

Aryia caught the little comment as well, her tilting her head in the other direction from Thurid. But she says nothing- not like she can- and falls in line with Thurid with a happy pep to her step out the exit. Even waving goodbye to whoever Lukas was.

Today is a good day.

"Ramirez! I mount!" Paenitia calls. Her peacock-andalusian snorts, extends a wing and scoops her up into the saddle. She settles herself and he proudly marches behind the pair. He is happily triumphant and saw his mistress be so as well. Her conversations, he does not understand. He is happy to strut and show of his rider and his feathers.

A good day indeed.
