  • Summary: Cryosanthia seeks out Faranmidahn, finding not her but the dame's mother at the Order of the Roses. She entreats to speak with her and they retire to the pagoda to do so. Little 'Lily' Fang terrorizes the garden surrounding it, much to the white sith's consternation. As this goes on, Selia, a wandering dancer and former slave, appears and comments on their discussion. She plays with the kobold girl briefly, then vanishes, leaving the concerned mothers to speak. Cryo has a lot of topics on her mind, but expresses concern for Professor Serrendine Waywalker, and remorse for her loss. She asks advice, regarding Lily, and offers reassurances that Serrendine was in Faran's heart, even if the two are estranged. She laments her ability to save anyone, but offers to try and help heal, for Faran and her mother. Including assisting with the Everstorm Research and recreating the destroyed notes. The professor accepts this, the embrace of the kobold, and allows the sith'makar woman to hold them both.

The splendor of the technology, bustle and eclectic energy of the city and nation of Alexandria all seem to point towards the towering structures and constant thrum of activity in the Castle District. The Castle District contains the vast majority of the government offices, guild headquartrs, noble quarters and political functions of the city. The very air seems energized with this level of importance. The architecture is pompous and enormous, consisting largely of multi-leveled edifices and great jutting towers and buildings that seem to grow out of the mountains with hanging gardens and brightly colored banners and mana lamps strewn about. Everything seems to be aiming upwards here and pointing towards the freedom of the skies beyond. The grand towers and structures reaching heavenwards and activity in the skies above a constant happening with ships of all sizes from air-cabs to great merchant vessels moving through the Skygates and Griffon Riders moving through their patrols as they pass through and above the many bridges and walkways that connect the towers, buildings and walls.

Ever-easterward stands the fortress-castle of Castellum Alexandrae and a large bulk of both ground and air traffic seems focused in that direction.

The Chapterhouse of the Knightly Order of the Purple Rose, recently built with a reasonable knowledge of militant architecture, coupled with a certin artistic affair with chivalry. Outside, as ever, a stern looking elder human woman in armsman's trappings of the Order's colors, is supervising an array of various young men, and a couple women in humble purple tunics doing various yard maintainance.

The woman, a Sir Lorwyn, had greeted the Sith with stiff formality at first, softening just a mote around the edges as she recognized the name of a friend of Sir Waywalker, who was 'errant' on a matter the older human was unable to discuss. After whip-sharp words to encourage the lapsing squires to resume their work with an almost preternatural prescience (the woman's eyes never leave the visitor's face, though she seems to be acutely aware of their goofing off), the elder politely advises that her sister knight's Dame is present, and sends one of the squires, sternly admonished to keep whatever he sees to himself, to fetch the Lucht widow.

Some minutes after, Serrendine herself emerges, clad in scholarly robes. She carries herself in a certain dignity toward her caller. She raises her hand, "Hello, miss Cryosanthia, Sir Lorwyn. You are well, I trust?" she says, a subtle undertone in her voice; a wound that may never heal, though she shows only a certain scholarly reserve.

Cryosanthia stands formally tall, her posture stiff. She's resplendent in her best gear, her mithril mail, the buckler, the cold grey icicle dagger, boots and gloves with her AnyGarment sleeves supplementing the ensemble with tight leathers, a short skirt and cape, and other embellishments that hint of a magical nature. Blended in, is a haversack, which has a carrier for a small lizard girl, coloured carnation and white, who peers over her shoulder. Cryosanthia is looking her best because, well, she isn't feeling it.

A week where she wasn't ready to speak to her friend is understandable. Perhaps two, if she plowed into the ground emotionally, and it was likely to drag others into her hole. A month though, months, it becomes unforgiveable. How to explain she wanted to be there, but couldn't. That, I just can't today, maybe tomorrow, started turning into never. Her reluctance to face it all kept piling up, and soon, the doubt that any effort, anything she might do, would help at all built up as well. Cryosanthia wears shame as much as anything else, and perhaps that is why she's got everything on today.

"This one is... improving, Professor Waywalker. Peace..." Peace on your nest is the traditional sith'makar greeting. Cryo has been unable to say it without her voice cracking since she and her cihuaa parted ways. She dips in a curtsey, "Peace and hello. This one wished to share words."

Reserved in many cases and detached in others, the Lucht Siuil woman is nonetheless not unsympathetic, there's something in her eyes at the Sith's words and a brief curtsey of her own before a little hand raises to the palescale. Subtle movements off to the side of Cryosanthia's head draws a gazed turned curious by the little pink reptillian peeking over her shoulder, "Of course, of course. Sir Lorwyn, might we use the pagoda for a time?"

The elder knight, standing by at hand, though her attention is on her charges, turns at the inquiry and nods, "Of course, Lady Waywalker. Will you require an attendant?"

"A pitcher of chilled roseade and three goblets I think, Sir, if you please? We have... personal matters to discuss."

A look between the three, then, "It will be seen to, My Lady."

That handled, Serrendine regards Cryosanthia and starts to lead her toward a construction within the yards.

"Thank you Sir Lorwyn, this one is grateful." Cryosanthia makes a curtsey towards the older knight, then follows as Serrendine leads. A hand over her shoulder strokes carnation scales, promising in draconic, "You can play around the pagoda, stay close, once you are set down."

The whitescale sith follows, keeping her steps careful and slow, mildly embarassed at being so tall. Whispers in the back of her head assure her that this is normal for knights and dragons, even if that doesn't perfectly describe the situation. She focuses on the pagoda, eyeing the construction. "Zeke and I were going to have a pagoda." The comment comes unbidden, followed by a long sigh.

"Professor Waywalker, this one does not know where to start. I am, as always, sorry for your loss."

A soft hiss of breath through tiny nostrils, and mousey grey locks shift some with the widow's nod, "And I, yours, Miss Cryosanthia." The scholar looks up to the larger, "Faranmidahn spoke of things... Is this smaller one...?" she wonders with a glance to the properly sized draconid, but trails off on the inquiry.

Cryosanthia lifts the little lizard out of her haversack, carrying her for the moment.

She's tiny, compared to the sith'makar, with a very large head. Her scales are carnation, a rose pink, fading lighter along her chin and chest. Her eyes are a bright red with little slits. She's child sized even to a halfling, and very energetic, squirming as Cryo sets her down. "This is Little Fang. She prefers 'Fang' I believe."

"Lily!" The small lizard child yaps happily.

"She prefers the opposite of whatever I call her. I prefer 'Lily'. She is named for her teeth but this one does not want to encourage her to bite."

"Fang!" Lily chrips.

"She's my foundling. This one missed the hatching season, and the mating season." More quiet pain, hiding deep, "Yet misfortune brought her my way, so I will fight that and save her."

The middle aged Lucht nods to the Sith's words, then looks to the kobold child, "Hello." with only a slight uncertainty in her tone as they walk within the Order's practice yards, "My daughter spoke quite highly of your heart, Miss Cryosanthia. You must have your hands full." This lucht, well old enough to have a grown daughter, has mousey brown hair and is clad in scholarly robes.

"Thank you Professor, Faran is close and dear to my heart, even if this one has been distant. And Lily is the handful, so energetic, and many, many bad habits." Cryo sounds proud, at least ready for the challenge. She watches the little lizard constantly as Lily darts around, mostly running in front of Serrendine, then around behind her to stalk the Lucht. "Lily..." Cryo cautions.

"Sssassaaa!" the little kobold girl cries back.

"She's Professor Serrendine Waywalker." Cryo answers.

This is too many words to chew. Little Fang finally responds, "Ssserrss."

"Alright Lily, you can call her Ssserrss." The whitescale sith relents, smiling wanely at the Lucht. A dark cloud in her otherwise fluffy sky, "I couldn't save anyone, Professor. She made me wash and feed them, then clean up after She finished with them. I tried, to make them comfortable, to remember their names, then it became too much. If you had been there when I was, you would have become another face I tried to remember, then forget. I... struggle to make sense of it, still. I can answer questions, as She might have, should you have some, but... there is not much in them. If... if there are things you would ask of me, I'll try, to make sense of her."

The Lucht does spend a few strides trying to keep track of the little one (how often does she get to use that descriptor, really? Even less than her daughter, at any rate). Serrendine, the scholar looks up at Cryosanthia as she yields so quickly, then, "She was a woman of focus."

Another couple of steps, then, "She murdered my husband. She killed my research team, stole our work, and maimed me." something dark enters her voice, there, checked, if just under the scholarly reserve, "The Fae is every bit the sort of monster our instructors fear lay at the end of our devotion to the pursuit of knowledge, Miss Cryosanthia, with the power to wreak untold chaos without the fear of the Gods. A monster who, as Faranmidahn has explained, was quite able to alter memory, and whatever else she deigned worth the effort."

Selia gives a jaw cracking yawn, traveling along a side path to intercept the mis-matched trio. The tiny dancer looks rumpled and recently woken, but she often looks like that anyway. Squinting against the light, she peers at the collective with uncertainity. ".....G'mornin."

Lily runs ahead to the pagoda, then dives into the bushes surrounding it. Her pink scales easily show through green foliage, she would be better to lurk amongst the flowers. While there probably aren't birds and mice for her to catch, she still indulges her fantasy of being a giant, terrible lizard. 'RAWR' She stomps, T-Rex of the Roses.

Cryo listens. While one eye tracks her foundling she's pulled more into Serrendine's rendition of events. She can't help but nod. "She was, and she did. She did so because she could, because she felt like it. I would say because it amused her, but there was no mirth in her. At best, curiosity, but one unmoored from conscience or compassion. At times I found her like the weather, a thing that happens."

Then there's a voice. The white sith looks at the other lucht, "Oh, Hello."

Followed by, "Lily! Don't eat the flowers!"

The Lucht, however, turns to regard the hailing other and gives a vaguely puzzled, "Hello." a blink, and a look around the yards, "You... do not look like a squire..?" she notes. The admonition by the Sith draws her eye and hmm. Perhaps there's a mother in there, after all.

Selia blinks at the elder lutch and smiles. "Why thank ya." Eyeing the path of the tiny lizard, Selia snorts softly. "Lily eatin' flowers. Canibalism." Turning attention to Cryo, she frowns mildly growing serious. "Ya talkin da Tower, aye? Nasty place."

"Excuse me a moment Professor," Cryo says, lunging forward, moving with startling speed and grace as she dives into the small garden surrounding the pagoda. If Lily Fang is the garden's T-rex, then Cryo is its kaiju as she towers over bushes and flowerbeds, and unlike her small protege' steps between them without damaging anything. The kobold girl is tearing a path as she giggles and flees the sith'makar. "Lily, Lily! Little Fang. Come here, stop, you're being bad." Her voice is quite firm, but not angry.

"Sssasssaa?" The kobold asks, looking up fearfully.

Cryo holds out her arms, speaking in draconic, "Come here. There are drinks." Lily leaps up and is caught.

The whitescale extricates herself, facing the two Lucht, and nods. "Yes. The Tower. It was."

"Yes." the Professor says simply to the observation on the Tower, then watches Cryo secure her foundling once more. "You're getting there." she notes, then looks back to the other Lucht. Hmmm.

Selia frowns thougtfully. "Anybody na wot 'appen ta da Tower? Last I 'erd got blown up, but was gonna fix itself. Seems nay da sorta thing ta jus leav layin 'round."

"Drinks! Drinks! Drinks!" <draconic> Little Fang squirms in Cryo's arms as she is carried into the pagoda, and her clutch-mother is hoping they have shown up. Or will be showing up soon.

"Yes Little Fang, soon." The whitescale reassures. <draconic>

"Yes. That's what happened to it." Cryosanthia exhales, her breath two visible streams from her nostrils as they condense a fog in front of her snout. "As far as this one is aware, one of Zehier's heirs gets charge of it."

The Lucht Professor gets a particular look in her eye thinking of the tower, idly rubbing at a shoulder. She doesn't make any particular observations aloud about the structure, nor it's keeping by someone she's never met. Instead, she turns to regard the furrow of discord the pink kobold has wrought in the garden. At least Lorwyn will have another project o chastise her squires with.

Selia nods, scaling up the side of the pagoda entry smooth as levitation, geting a view of the room from above knee level of the designer. Looks nicer from that sort of vantage. "S'poses dat's as good an endin' as can be 'spected."

"I'm sorry about the flowers. She's not used to gardens. Or civilization. Or everything," Cryosanthia says apologetically, bouncing Little Fang, "But we're going to learn, aren't we?"

"Sssassaaa!" The kobold girl peeps.

Cryo sets her down, "Stay in the Pagoda." Then sits down herself, she watches Selia climb, and that's attracted the kobold's attention also, who is now attempting to duplicate the efforts. "There could have been better ones."

It was her home too, after all. Cryo looks at Serrendine, blinking slowly, "I was... hoping you might have advice for me, regarding Lily."

Scrubbed from existence is one. The professor's inclinations in that regard would be better served toward it's former mistress, but, alas. She looks at the frivolity at play, then, to Cryosanthia, she has an oddly uncertain look. A few moment's thought, then, "Be in her life, Miss Cryosanthia."

Lily rawrs a tiny roar, leaping at Selia, managing to land on the railing beside her. The dancer for her part, leaps and grabs the roof, then flips up out of sight.

"No..." Cryo cautions. <draconic>

"Yes!" Lily challenges back, standing all of her two feet tall. <draconic>

"Nooo.... stay in the pagoda. You won't get your drink." <draconic>

"Sssa Sssassaa." Lily relents, flopping on the railing. <draconic>

The white sith looks over at Serrendine, "I'll try to be. It's... complicated."

Faranmidahn's mother watches this with a distant, if troubled, eye. A moment or two are allowed to pass between statement and reply, the Lucht Dame turning her eyes away to admit, "Korsandir knew what to do."

"Faran shared a memory with me, when she took her vows. How proud she felt, and proud her father was. It's the only time I've met him, and then not really. I know what you've lost... I can't forgive Her. I'm angry still. I know you must be. I want to help." Cryosanthia says, sinking low, sitting on the floor of the pagoda, then sinking further. She's still a tall and large presence.

"I yelled at a tree, until I ran out of energy, and I was still mad." The white lizard looks at Serrendine, stares with her cold emotionless eyes, her features enigmatic beyond the huge slump she's adopted. "I suspect you want to scream, or something. If I can help, let me know how."

Serrendine is somewhat surprised by the statement about her husband, her lips part as she was not expecting that particular development. She closes her mouth, her eyes and slowly shakes her head, and steps toward the handrail, fingers curling upon it.

The widow's chest swells with her breath before a weak, mournful word passes her lips, "... yes..." <halfling>

She doesn't look back, considering the 'gently used' swath cut through the garden, "The witch queen made me realize I'd not been what I should have been to my child..." She turns then, if only to look sidelong with bitter regret and pain in her eyes, "I could have stood the lesson without losing my -husband-...!"

"Faranmidahn is Korsandir's daughter, everything she has is from him... she's all I have left of him, but... you... a Sith Makar she's known for less than a year... you know her better than I..."

She faces forward, away and perhaps downcast, "I don't know what to do."

Cryosanthia feels herself getting colder and colder, as her emotions sink. She picks up a glass of the rose-water, it frosts around her fingers. She approaches Serrendine, kneels, so she's closer to her height, yet feeling huge and inadequate. The air is cooler around her, an unpleasant reminder of the Tower, of Endless Winter. Cryo holds out the glass.

She's holding herself back. She wants to hug and hold the lucht professor, who reminds her so much of her friend. Who as her mother, one would expect her to. Despite her declaration, the sith'makar sees hints of the same body language, the way she moves, her scents. She sees the pain. She knows it. "I don't know either."

"Faran, worried for you both, mourned in uncertainty. When she received... it nearly undid her. I found her lost, weaving. You both have a place in her heart, and she needs you in her life more than ever now."

The professor does, indeed, have tears in her eyes as the Sith woman settles near her, as she accepts the glass with a quiet, "thank you."

Serrendine's response to the chill isn't as sharp as some, though it does stiffen her frame just a touch. Hearing that the knight suffered her abduction, the assertion that somehow, unworthy perhaps, she could still warrant a daughter's grief...

Within the cup of rose water, a drop from on high sends new ripples acroos it's surface.

Push it down Cryo, push it down. Be the strength for others. She sees in her mind's eye her emotional guardian staring at her. The scales along her neck start to glow faintly, and it spreads along her back beneath her clothes. She sees Lily, watching her silently, but her attention must be on the professor now. The Tower stands tall and unbroken inside her, the repository of everything wrong that's happened to her, and she puts her emotions inside.

The sith warms up considerably. She's still cool, but it no longer feels like winter surrounds her, and the frost patches stop growing. She reaches out, resting a large hand on Serrendine's shoulder, a slight nudge to pull her closer. "Drink," Cryo says, "Faran... was so determined. She loves you. She... she held me together when I was coming apart, I need to do the same for her. And you, too..."

Her voice crackles, there is a strange warble to it, "I couldn't save anyone. I can still clean up after Her.

The little matron turns her head slightly toward the massive hand on her shoulder and brings the cup to her lips. The description of Faran's doings, her... caregiving. How does she measure up against that? The glass is set up onto the handrail before the Lucht turns to look up at this Sith, her child's sister, and both of her hands rise to curl around the one on her shoulder, "Thank you... for giving her what... I could not."

"I would, again and again. She was very patient with me when I was young and foolish." Cryo sighs, exhaling heavily, her breath cool but not condensing mist this time. She keeps her hand in place, gently stroking with her large fingers. "She saw me broken open, and crazy, and she would not abandon me. She was my protector, when no one else would. She's so strong, I know she gets it from you both."

The sith'makar wants to embrace her, surround her, tell Serrendine that everything will be all right, that she will make it so. Except she's not a dragon that can remake the world, and Serrendine is neither a knight nor a child, and such things would be inappropriate to say and do.

For her.

Cryosanthia stares at Little Fang, and there is communication in the way of the lizard folk. Something on an instinctive level, this one is vulnerable, and friend. Enough that the Kobold will know what to do and it won't involve biting.

Lily jumps off the railing and lands with a quiet thump, then throws her hands around Serrendine's waist and hugs her tightly, her head twisting to look up at the professor.

Serrendine is further shamed by the depths of her daughter's heart, finding herself wanting in comparative measure, but she doesn't bow under it. This is a burden of her own making. She doesn't correct the Sith woman, the overabundance of credit to which she's unworthy, but she tries a wan smile, "She always meant well."

The sudden embrace from the kobold child is a bit of a surprise. She blinks, jaw slackening just a bit at the old, lingering memories kicked free of cobwebs and dust; the last time she felt a hug on that scale. Her response... She closes her eyes and nods before a hand hesitantly curls around the smaller being, gentle. She's never been so close to a Kobold, but... these last months have been ones of.... upheval and revelation.

"...thank you..."

Lily is small, not very strong, powered by seeming endless energy as most children are. Her scales are fine and smooth, and she's been carefully tended by Cryo. She's not a lucht child, but she's still vulnerable and open like they are. She does her best with Serrendine's name, "Ssseress."

Cryo, stays close, a firm hand on Serrendine's back, fingers still gently stroking. I am here. The professor feels so much like Faran, and also so delicate. "I wish..."

Her words are interrupted by another vibration in her throat. The white sith exhales again, seeks her centre, and the noise is replaced by a low thrumming. One meant to calm, a deep vibration that doesn't carry far but is felt in the body.

"I wish I was smart enough to understand your research, and talk to you about it. On the approach to your camp, I saw the Everstorm and all it's changing colours. It was a wondrous marvel, I can see how captivating wanting to understand it would be. I'd want to know, what mysteries does it hold."

"And... this one would obsess, can it change the past. Because there are things I wish to change, but I know it can't be done. What's happened can't be undone. It has to be accepted, absorbed, and move on. I hope... to get there one day, and I want to bring you and Faran there. It's all so big, like the storm, I'm lost staring at it..."

"I'm sorry Professor, I'm rambling." Cryo stops speaking, and maintains her thrumming.

The Lucht's hand gently rubs along the smooth, tiny scales, "Thank you, Lilly." and the pained woman gives her a little smile before her hand lifts from Cryo's to dab at her eyes. A sniff, and she looks up to the Sith woman, "It is... magnificent, isn't it?" already within her eyes, the rekindled awarenes of her personal obsession start trying to take hold past the emotions, and... somehow, Serrendine manages to wrangle it back down, "The Fae woman stole all of our research journals, but I have been trying to replace them." Her eyes half-lid, and she considers the rest, "I would like very much to..." She breaks off then, at that point and nods, reaching up to touch Cryo higher about the arm, though not quite able to reach the shoulder. Though a Lucht like Faranmidahn, her daughter is much taller than she, than both her parents, and her arms fall shorter than others. She swallows, and, "We're of a mind, Miss Cryosanthia, in many things, I suspect....I let my obsession choke my relationship with my only child..." She looks down and gently strokes Little Fang's head, "Being in her life... can give you a tether back from the abyss."

"This one can take notes, make diagrams, my penmanship is impeccable." Cryosanthia offers, and she has the scars to show it. The Mistake did not tolerate mistakes, or imperfections. "You could dictate, if, that would help, with everything."

She feels the touch on her arm, the small hand. And all the memories of a similar touch from her first foundling stir, a tether that pulls her in many directions. She relents, unable to resist instincts, and sees Lily staring at her, hugging the small lucht. Still, formalities must be observed.

"Serrendine, this one would not wish you to suffer indignity, and this one knows how much Faran disliked being treated as a child by larger being, but I wish to embrace you and Lily."

Cryo stammers, "There's... there's a lot I don't know what to do, with Lily, and you can improve your relationship with Faran, and I want to help. If you will allow." Her hand goes still, maintaining contact, but waiting for her permission.

The Lucht looks up to Cryo, still stroking the faint pebbling of Lilly's scaled hide, she weighs what she sees with what she's understands and she nods, "I would... have a partner... I think, perhaps that would be good for... the both of us, Miss Cryosanthia."

There is something Serrendine cannot quite read in the Sith's features, the angle of head, the dilation of pupils and looks again down to the little one as she is presented with the woman's dilemma. "I will take no offense."

She smiles again to the little Kobold, "I would be... most grateful..." What does faran call her...? "Cryo."

"Yes, Cryo, for emergencies, and friends." Cryosanthia says, sliding her hand and leaning so she can bring both close and pick them up. The sith woman's strength is great, she feels like a rock wall or a block of ice, though the embrace she lavishes on the two smaller ones is gently and careful.

Lily squirms around, adjusting her hold on Serrendine, taking cues from her foster mother and perhaps enjoying being around someone closer to her size. Someone that reminds her just a little of her parents.

"Thank you," Cryo whispers, her thrumming very loud, her voice quiet. She inclines her neck, hovering her head above Serrendine. Seated, her tail curls in, and in almost every direction there are white scales. There is her concern and her attempts to comfort, and her body, shielding against the world. "I will be a partner, I will help. Thank you..."

And an errant thought sneaks in, which she must say, "Best job application ever."

The little woman curls her arms around the Kobold as they are taken up by the larger. Surrounded, shielded and.... protected, the professor rests her cheek against Lilly's head and curls an arm along Cryosanthia's ribs. with the application remark comes a short, huff of a chuckle through the little Lucht's nose.

"Trust me," Cryo churrs, her voice vibrating along with the thrumming of her throat. The noise that seems to be everywhere, a low octave purr, such that a lizard is capable of, "My words are fancy, and while I'm cleverer than most I'm not that much more clever. I'll try not to frustrate you too much."

Her calligraphy will, however, be perfect.

Dramatis Personae

Selia
Selia is short, which as a halfling is somewhat expected. As such, many will first notice the mop of dark hair, straight and tussled, either from a natural lack of care, or a great deal of effort put into making it look naturally unkempt. Her skin is a dusky tan, and her almond eyes peer with wide curiousity. Though generally friendly, her features hold something of a hard glint, suggesting something other then true innocence.

Her build is sleek and slender, though still with feminine curves. More noticable is the liquid grace with which she moves, a mix of natural ability plus long years of athletic training.

Selia's attire changes with the circumstances, but tends towards cuts favored to not restrict movement. Gray and/or black tending to be the favored colors, though certain dancer's outfits are far more colorful. When out and about on the town, or off on adventurers, the halfer favors a shirt of oily black metal which clings to her body like a second skin.
