  • Title: Arrest the Ogres
  • Emitter: Whirlpool
  • Characters: Asmli, Ashes, Nels, Delilah, Sabina
  • Place: A05: Warehouse District
  • Time: Saturday, August 29, 2020, 9:30 PM
  • Summary: Watchman Zamrin, a jovial and kind-hearted guardie who enjoys violence and having his arms broken, has contracted several adventurers to support him and his squad bringing in to Ogres for questioning. The Ogres, Birv and Jirv, are curiously yet gainfully employed at one the of warehouses and perhaps know a lot about a smuggling ring, and be willing to talk about it once they've been in jail for a while and gently interviewed. Zamrin advises that it would be easier to out-wit, than out-fight these ogres, as the group arrives at the warehouse. Asmli opens the door, adventurers enter and look around, calling for the Ogres. They do not appear until Zamrin taunts them. At which point they push over some shelves and make a break for it. Sabina, casts grease on Birv, and he lands on his ass. Ash attempts to Forbid Action on Jirv, and fails, though Delilah successfully gets him with a hideous laughter spell. Birv protests that his falling down wasn't _that_ funny, though both of them are now on the ground. Asmli and Nels move in to block the exit the Ogres were running for, while Delilah webs everyone up. Sabina moves to where she can talk to the Ogres, and asks them to please nicely, just give up and let the friendly guards put the shackles on them. Ash creeps to the side of her friend, and spends her time glaring at the Ogres, willing bad luck on them. Which succeeds! They fail to break free, and finally succumb to the honey words of Delilah and Sabina, and grumble about how much they hate finger-twiddlers.

"Birv and Jirv aren't murderous, you know. They're not even *that* violent. What they are is a pair of ogres who we need brought in for questioning. They work with a lot of shady individuals and we think they saw something with regards to a smuggling operation we're investigating. Your mission it to assist us in detaining them. We expect they'll resist and put up a fight. We have pretty good relations with them, but being ogres, they tend to love a good scrap and a chance to show off. That's why you're coming with us."

Ogres are an uncommon sight in Alexandria proper, but not *unknown*. With relations between Alexandria and Bludgun being ... peacable, it's been more commoin as of late.

You're presently heading with a detatchment of guards towards the city docks. Where the ogres can be found.

Ogres being non-violent? Asmli isn't sure he buys that one, but it's a chance to show off himself, and worth some coin, so he'd been more than game when the post went up in the Guild. Now he stumps along with the guard contingent. "You think they'll actually talk to you?"

An ashen Arvec tags along, once again supplied by the Temple of Vardama to keep people alive, or if that fails, to make them presentable and get them to the temple. She's curious how this will turn out. She adjusts her satchel at her side and looks around, recognizing a few. Nels and Sabina get a welcoming stare.

Nels nods quickly, "Right. Go with some guards to bring some ogres in for questioning. No chance this will go bad, is there?" He wonders the same thing Asmli does, and asks, "Not /that/ violent? How violent -are- they? Just ... ogres." Like 10 times bigger than him. It's enough to make a goblin nervous. "What do we do if they want to fight. Are we allowed to fight back?" He looks at the huge thunderbelcher he carries. "This isn't for tickling..."

"Bring two ogres in for questioning? Alright, that we can do." Delilah shrugs her shoulders lightly, and checks her weapons just in case, paying attention mainly to her pistol. (Hey, any ogre that can't take at least one bullet isn't much of an ogre, let's be honest here.) "So... when it does turn into a scrap, which it will, what're we supposed to do? Just fight them until someone says 'that's enough'? I mean how *do* you get ogres to come in peacefully?"

"They broke my arm last year," says Watchmen Zamrin to answer Nels' question. thoughtfully, "I mean, in fairness, I was trying to arrest them at the time. They see it as fun, but they keep it pretty reigned in so they can work here. I'd expect them to resist. I'd also expect them to keep from hurting us too badly unless someone pulls a sword. So, my advice? Don't pull swords. Use your wits. This is a takedown, but it's not meant to be a deadly situation so don't make it one. They know exactly how far to go. THier arrest records are as long as either of our arms." He shrugs his shoulders.

"They'll roll over on the smuggling ring if we can get them in prison and that's what we really need."

"Before or after they were broken?" Ash asks, "You arms I mean."

Sabina sighs and says a small prays to Tarien under her breath as she hears the details for this little venture. She moves closer to Ashes and gives the mourner a side glance. "This should be fun, hmm?"

She nods enthusiasticly at the ide of talking them into cooperation. Not that she herself believes it will be that easy. "Here's hoping then."

"Either-or," remarks Zamrin in good humor to Ashes.

Asmli looks faintly disappointed at the revelation that this will be yet another negotiation, but he just snorts softly. "I ain't gonna be the first to show a blade, but if one o' them does, best be sure they'll get one back. S'how it goes."

Nels uhms, "I don't /have/ wits, I shoot monsters. And people, if they're bad. If they have wits, they don't want to get shot. But ogres, I don't really expect wits from, and there's not much I can do, apart from shooting them, and my stellar personality. Which I don't think is going to do much good, either. I'll go, if you want, and I won't be the first one to fight, but if they want to fight, there's no 'stun' setting." He has a sudden inspiration, though that will have to wait for later.

Ash looks over as Sabina joins her side. She doesn't smile, it's not an Arvec thing to do, and especially not an Ashes thing to do, however her head is tiltled just a little and her eyes have a brightness that makes the unrelenting stare a little softer. "Hi," she says, then makes a small nod towards Emp. She brushes her ropey hair back, exposing the choker around her neck. A choker with eyes. After, she grips the strap of her satchel more firmly, and her slowly paced steps are... still slow, and silent. She keeps up with the group.

Sabina pets Emp, the colorful peacock on her shoulder. "That means you have to behave too, bird." Emp pecks at her hand and then her head. Sabina rolls her eyes. "Lovely. The only good news right now is that I've already made friends with an ogre once? He was.. cowardly though."

"Then make friends with them. It's not *that* difficult. Get them to ocme in peacably. You're a Goblin. They'll probably like you better than they'll like *me*, especially if you play it up for them. Oi," Zamrin shrugs his shoulders. "Come on, we're almost there." You and the rest of the guard detatchment arrive soon at the exterior of a warehiuse.

"Here's where they're working tonight according to my buddy."

Nels boggles. "Make friends with an ogre?" Well, he can try. If not, he'll try not to die. He'll try very, very hard. But the only ogres he's known lived in caves and ate people. If these are Alexandrian Ogres, maybe he won't end up on an ogre's dinnerplate. He peers at the doors: an adventurer's greatest foe.

Asmli must not be a very good adventurer, because he cheerfully reaches for the door without any hesitation and flings it open - assuming it isn't locked. No subtlety here, at all.

The wide, double doors open easily enough. It's a warehouse, so it's not like they're trapped with explosives. As it s, you can see people working hard. They're taking crates that have bene delivered from the loading bay on the opposite side of the warehouse from where you are now and moving them deeper within. Lots of people, lots of heavy crates. Shipping is a big business, after all, and it needs people to do the work!

No sign of the ogres *yet*, but it's a big warehouse.

Nels whews at no sign of the ogres. He's not looking forward to the upcoming tickle-fight, it promises to put him in the hospital, if he's lucky. Well, he and his wits will enter the warehouse and peer around. If there's no ogres to be seen, he looks around for a supervisor-looking person.

Ashlee watches Asmli fling open the door. She hadn't pick which one to try entering by, but that seems like a good choice. She looks beyond, people at work, a warehouse. The mourner mentally reviews the number of clients she's had who have worked in warehouses, and the kinds of fatal accidents they've had. Crushed, usually. The dismemberments typically aren't deadly, unless someone loses a head. Don't lose your head, always good advice. She turns, giving a wary glance to Sabina, then another to Nels and steps forward. Ash enters the warehouse to look around, monitoring the spaces above her.

On the way over here, Delilah has been rather deep in thought. What does one do to subdue two ogres? Moreover, what does a skinny sorceress who is only physically impressive in terms of appearance do to satisfy two ogres who like to have a boxing match before doing anything? Well, that'll be a problem to answer sometime in the next five to ten minutes, but not right now. So she's got time to think about it. For now, she lets other people go in first; afterall, that way hopefully they'll get punched first, and she can be spared the punching. She doesn't like being punched.

Sabina adjusts the coyote half-mask that is on her face and puts on one of her better smiles as she enters along with the others. She chuckles at Asmli's bold enterence and chooses to follow suit. Puting hands to either side of her mouth she calls out. "Birv! Jirv! Hello!" Subtle..

"I bet I can get 'em to appear," says Zamrin, glancing back towards his comrade guards.

"Ready?" He cracks his knuckles.

Asmli looks back over at Zamrin, and crosses his arms over his chest. "Think they're hiding out, or are they just somewhere else?"

Nels acks at the guard, who looks like he's getting ready to start a fight, and in alarm he shouts out in his absolutely loudest voice, "Birv, Jirv! Hey, we've got some food and gifts for you if you come with us!" His shout is so shouty that it leaves him breathless.

"Four in ten warehouse deaths come from overloaded shelves collapsing." Ash states in her typical monotone voice, which is very suitable for facts. She looks around, "This warehouse had a collapse last year."

She looks over to Zamrin, "Was that when you tried arresting them before?"

"..no," says Zamrin, looking at Ashes like she just grew a second head. Where'd shje get that factoid?!

It sounds probable, but it's still weird!

"OH! BIRV! JIRV! IT's ZamriN! WE JUST WANNA TALK!"

BOOM THUD CRASH.

See, they were just going to IGNORE you, but hearing a guardsmen they know?

A pair of tall bodies lean out from behind one of the equally tall shelving units that make up the aisles of the warehouse and they both PEER in ytour direction. BOth of them are easily nine or ten feet tall which still leaves the tall shelving to provide them some cover.

"Ah shit," grunts one.

"Hells," grunts the other.

Both of them heave ho and push over one of the tall shelving unitsg and make a run for it.

Delilah's brands and eyes flare a brilliant blue, as she traces a mystic rune in the air in front of her, chanting something arcane; it all coalesces into a blob of blue energy, that she just kind of lobs through the air. Where it hits the ground it splashes, bubbling all over the place and leaving a slick, greasy puddle -- right for Jirv to immediately step in and slip, going on his back like a circus clown tripping on a banana. "Just give up!" the sorceress sing-songs, "It'll be way easier, I promise!"

Jirv slips on the grease and ends up on his back while Birv laughs at him and runs by.

Ash does not want to want to run and chase after Ogres. She is generally inclined against anything that makes her sweaty. Creeping along, staring, that's more her speed. As the two ogres take off she shakes her small holy symbol. The scales clink.

Her voice sounds surprisingly hollow, unsettling even, and her eyes glare out of her skull face. She commands, "Don't Run."

Sadly, the command doesn't stick.

Alright, time to answer the question.

GAME: Sabina casts Hideous Laughter. Caster Level: 3 DC: 15
GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+3: (6)+3: 9

Sabina lets out a bark of laughter as the much larger ogres make a run for it. She moves forward towards the obsticale they left behind themselves and then casts a spell. Hands working and tounge speaking the eldrich language. She points an Birv starts to laugh..and then falls over laughing to hard to do anything else. Bina calls out to him. "Tariens blessing apon you!"

Birv's laughter at Jirv's predicament, slipping and sliding on the grease as he tries to get up and steady himself on two feet, soon turns to uproarious laughter at Sabina's spell. He collapses intop fits of laughter and Jirv glares at him. "NOT THAT FUNNY," he yells, unclear on the fact that it was magic that did it.

Nels has been advised not to start an actual fight here, so he forgoes his thunderbelcher and rushes forward, shouting to the ogres, "Stop! Stop or something bad will happen!" Hopefully him being a goblin and not in a watch uniform will lend credence to his words. Or at least puzzle the ogres.

"... knew getting the mercs was a good idea for backup," says Zamrin with a big old grin as he watches the ogres go down on the ground and get webbed up. "Come on. We've got the extra large manacles for you, boys. Give it up. You aren't going anywhere."

GAME: Delilah casts Web. Caster Level: 6 DC: 17

GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+3: (12)+3: 15

Delilah sighs softly as the ogres don't give up. "Come on boys," she calls out, before she commences the act of casting another spell. Instead of arcane runes, though, she just draws a big scribble in the air and flings it forwards; at the point of detonation it explodes into a mess of thick, heavy, sticky strands, that basically just gum down everything. "Should've just surrendered," she points out. "Much easier."

GAME: Ashes casts Ill Omen. Caster Level: 1 DC: 14

Ashlee is quite pleased with the proceedings. She almost chuckles when Birv goes down, laughing. Delilah's web is even better, as both are trapped. She won't have to run at all. Instead, she stares at Birv, her beady eyes boring holes into him as she ponders all the unfortunate things and bad luck he might have. It's his unlucky, unlucky day.

GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+5: (4)+5: 9

Slow to react to the sudden chaos blossoming before him, Asmli sees only one option. He takes off running, around the mess created and flailing ogres, and takes up a guard position in front of the back door they were heading towards.

GAME: Sabina rolls diplomacy: (9)+16: 25

Sabina hops and prances about the shelf adn the objects scatterd about to get to the far side and nearer to the two ogres. "Birv! Jirv! Take it easy gentlmen. Please! We don't want to hurt you and we don't want you to hurt us either. These other fine folks just want to ask you questions, alright?"

GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+1: (7)+1: 8

Birv continues to laugh. And laugh. And laugh and laugh and laugh...

Jirv tries. He really tries. He's found himself enmeshed in horrible webs all around him, which is going to make getting to him to manacle him hard, but he's unable to break them even with his strenth.

Meanwhile, Birv is laughing so hard tears are streaming down his face.

Nels is, currently, attempting to stand behind Asmli and he adds an emphatic, "Yeah," to punctuate the party members' cries for calm. Sadly, he can't even be seen behind the dwarf. Darn tall folks.

Asmli braces at the far door. No ogre is getting by him. Nope.

GAME: Delilah rolls diplomacy: (5)+13: 18

Delilah picks her way around the downed shelving, and meanders up to the edge of the webbing. "Boys," she explains. "Boys, boys. Come on now. Nobody's gonna ruin your life here, the nice city guards just want to ask a few questions. How about you just agree to go nicely with them, and we can stop this silliness, yes? I can make the webbing go away if you agree to be good, alright?" She pauses, and steeples her fingers in front of her. "Of course, if you agree and then change your mind, I can cast it again. So don't bother thinking about that ploy."

So far, Delilah has not been punched, either. So this is good.

<OOC> Evil Eye Hex Jirv, -2 on ability checks. DC14 will save = 1 round / fail = 6 rounds.

Ash moves up beside Sabina. This involves some clambering, some scrambling. Her familiar has given her lots of hints about scurrying quickly. She does not use them all, but she is still low to the shelves as she climbs over them, a skull followed by fluttering grey clothes, looking slightly inhuman, and ingoblin. She rises beside the tarien, a stark contrast to the brightly coloured cleric in the silver half-mask. Her own, is a permanent momento mori. She fixes her eyes on Jirv. Watching. She advises with flat, disinterested words, no urgency, no rush. "You should give up."

GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+5: (13)+5: 18
GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+5: (2)+5: 7

Jirv fails to break out of the webs again thanks to bad luck!

The guards with the manticles are close, They're moving in.

Sabina looks to Ashes and nods with a knowing grin. She looks about at the rest of the group and then watch getting closer. "I'll cast color spray and attempt to stun them. Drop the webs once I do adn then we or the watch can run in to cuff them. Unless they want to let us cuff them without any more fight."

GAME: Whirlpool rolls 1d20+1: (16)+1: 17

Birv finally stops laughing while Jirv fails to break the webs. Both of them are giving dirty looks at the magicers.

"God damn finger waggers."

"Hate 'em."

"Yeah."

"Unfaiqr, you brought the wizards, guardies."

"UNFAIR."

They're complaining, now, but no longer immediately resisting.

Nels thinks they are probably gonna give it up at this point, and he looks vastly relieved. Also, he didn't have to get clobbered by an ogre, so this went much better than he had planned on. He will try to stand around and look capable, which is not an easy thing at three and a half feet tall.

The ashen Arvec stands beside Sabina, returning the nod with a slight one of her own. Otherwise, she's silent, her hands resting at her sides with her holy symbol tightly gripped. She shakes her head, adjusting the lay of her thick hair, and continues to stare. Watching the ogres, in case they attempt something, and a little hurt by their words. Oh well. She doesn't blink.

GAME: Nels rolls intimidate: (19)+0-4: 15

"That goblin is weird. And kinda creepy," says Jirv.

"Yeah," agrees Birv. "Weird and creepy. Same as wizards."

"Yeah!"

Zomrin sighs and they produce the (extra large) manacles and help them into them, politely.

"You know the rules (and so do I). Come on. Up up..."

They help the ogres to their feet, which is exactl;ly as easy as it sounds, and go to walk them out.

All in all, not bad for a nights work?
