With the hungry larvae and an extremely high likelihood that parents are about, there is a corresponding probability that all shall have their ties to this mortal coil tested. In preparation, primarily so that she need not wade into the very same mortal threats, Verna conjures an immaterial hand to her side, forged of her own life-force.

Serene is looking a little beat up, and Seldan frowns, torn at first - but his place is here, in this fight, where he can most effectively destroy these tiny things, and so, without more than a beat of hesitation, he again summons that mighty pillar of flame, sending it crashing into the larvae swarm -

And before he can move, as if from Hell below, there is an answer, a giant black-and-purple worm that erupts from the earth in a spray of dirt and clods, its massive jaws open.

In a spray of blood and a high-pitched scream, the paladin is gone. Swallowed where he stood.

Everyone knows Purple Womrs are solitary creatures. They don't exactly linger whee their children stand. They certainly move on and continue their feastes elsewhere.

Morgan drops out of the air landing a few feet from the ground laying on her side her voice starts normal as she starts the words but it gets faster in pitch. With a cracking sound a line of lighting shoots out of her fingers as it sizles on it "Well that sucks."

Kravar hears the noise as the larger worm emerges. He turns to look. He realizes that's where Seldan was a moment before, and quickly realizes what's happened. "Hah! It's true - that's no ordinary worm!" His wings move in a blur and an instant later he's next to the worm, twisting to avoid being struck as he flies along, dragging his sword along it's hide for a few paces before halting in mid-air.

It would be hard to miss the massive worm suddenly erupting from the ground. The tremors alone. Or the way it blots out of the sun. In Serene's case, there's also the smell. Not the typical carrion kind of smell that the thing carries. Rather the otherworldly stench. The wrongness. So, despite being swarmed by the creature's offspring, Serene lets out a sharp whistle and is almost immediately joined by her feathered companion. Despite the larval attempts to digest her, she manages to shake free of them as she slips easily into Silver's saddle, drawing her sword a moment later as she braces herself with her knees. Then, sword pointed at the worm, she declares, "By Eluna's light, you will end." A silver luminesence comes faintly into being about her and her mount, and the two strike as one... holy blade and sharpened beak, the two rip into the flesh of the massive creature.

The larva don't seem to care. People moved away? Well, there's still people near by. And people equals food, in their view. They swarm, what's left of them, over towards Stjepan and Munch, horrible chewing sounds emitted as they ty to get through armor and clothes, their stingers digging in with their tiny barbs.

Even as Verna calls upon the aid of her Mistress, she reaches into the similar, life-numbing cold of the Negative Energy plane to focus a beam of its energies at the wurm. In this instance, a double negative is NOT a positive. Certainly not for the fiendish, Seldan-swallowing serpent.

Stjepan and Munch FINALLY destroy enough of the larval purple worms that the swarm is broken up enough to no longer be a threat.

Neither of them are looking 'great', though.

An entirely new sensation, being bitten and then swallowed, but Seldan's wits work nearly as fast as his prayers. "Bright Seeress, this thing should not be. Let your power see it gone," he mutters, fishing a dagger from his belt that is the only weapon he can reach. Three quick strokes and a miss, well-enough aimed that the triangle cut is a little like seppuku from the inside out, and he tumbles out in a wash of ichor and stomach acid, mouth pointedly closed!

...and down it goes. It lifts its massive, battered, oozing bulk and proceeds to devour Serene, gfrabbing her and her mount and taking them into its massive maws and then...

... into the earth. It takes enough time that Seldan is able to escape it, yes, falling out and injuring it as it *disappears under the earth*.

... a moment later, it emerges from the earth on the other side of the party, back towards where Stejpan and Verna are.

Completely uninjured?!

Morgan takes even more in the air she sees the new one and says under anoyed breath "well the asexual debate is up for more argument at the guild." she then makes a few hand movements in the air that creates a black bolt at the worm soldly being effective but due to the over sized monster it does not even seem to effect it much.

Kravar slashes out of reflex as the first worm surges past - and takes Serene and Silver with it. He looks grim. In fact, it's the first time so far that he's been anything less than eager and cheerful for the entire worm-hunting expedition. He pivots and then darts over to the new worm. This time he doesn't use his sword, instead shifting at the last moment to extend a foot to smash a boot where he judges the creature's forehead should be. Unfortunately the worm is much faster than it has any right to be, and turns out to be viciously proficient in the fighting arts. It rears up and opens it's mouth wide, The Aesir is the next to disappear down the creature's jaws. "NOT AGAAaaaiiin..." his voice echoes before trailing off.

Serene is... gone. Just like that. The worm's gaping maw managed to envelop both her and Silver, and drags them both under the earth, tremors betraying its passage under the ground. But Serene is no morsel to be simply snatched and grabbed... she bites back, and does so hard. In truth her savage retaliation inside the worm's mouth is epic to behold... were there any witnesses to behold it.

Stjepan starts swinging at the purple worm as soon as it pops up. He bounces a couple of strikes off of the hide, but one of the cuts drives right into the join of one of the segments. That's gotta smart. "STOP EATING MY FRIENDS!" It's an ill-considered shout, given where it's likely to lead.

Cleaning it can wait for later, but the weapon in Seldan's hand is far too puny for a real fight - and yet, letting it go is not a good idea, just in case he needs it again. Shoving the filthy blade unceremoniously in his belt, he lays a hand on his shoulder, the worst of the bites healing in the blink of an eye. Out comes Reunion, then, as his feet carry him in the direction of the massive thing. Now there's a real weapon to work with.
